Hi all, on request of the Ubuntu MATE team I have enabled automatic builds for X2Go packages for Ubuntu 15.10. Builds are pending and should appear during the day. Run x2goDesktopSharing as service

Hi, I'm a new user. I'm under Ubuntu 12.04 with gnome-shell and I have installed x2goclient. With the update I have now 'X2Go Client v. 4.0.5.0 (Qt - 4.8.1)' One another computer I have installed x2goserver and x2goDesktopSharing Is-it possible to launch x2goDesktopSharing as a service when launching the system (same as x2goserver), to be able to disconnect of the user and reconnect to another. For now, disconnecting (:0) kills the nx connexion. I have other troubles, but I will open a new thread. x2goclient connection fails with 'setterm: $TERM is not defined'

Hi x2go users, After recent update to x2goclient 4.0.5.0-2.fc22 I'm unable to connect to my x2go server. Error message: Connection failed. setterm: $TERM is not defined. Steps to reproduce: 1. Upgrade x2goclient to 4.0.5.0-2.fc22 2. Just try to connect to x2go server When I downgrade back to 4.0.3.2-1.fc22 everything is fine. Any ideas? I thought about opening a defect, but maybe it's something wrong with the setup of my server? 1. The client machine's OS: Fedora 22 x86_64 2. The client machine's version of X2GoClient: 4.0.5.0-2.fc22 3. The server's OS: Arch Linux 4. The server's version of the x2goserver package: 4.0.1.19-2 5. Hello, Setup: RHEL 7 server with x2goserver 4.0.1.19-3.el7. The server's syslog is receiving heaps of messages like this: Aug 26 20:38:03 servername pulseaudio[11023]: [pulseaudio] main.c: User- configured server at localhost:30004, refusing to start/autospawn There's no need to support audio in this setup. Session type: Connect to local desktop -- issues with scaling

Dear all, at first the situation I encounter: The X2Go server is: a computer with two screens: - operating system: Fedora 22 x86_64 - big screen (22" widescreen): 1680x1050 px - small screen (19"): 1280x1024 px - software: * X2Go server 4.0.1.19-3.fc22 * "KDE Plasma Workspaces" aka KDE5 aka KF5 The X2Go client is: a notebook (Apple MacBook) with the following specifications: - built-in screen: 1440x900 px - operating system: Mac OS X 10.8.5 - software: * XQuartz 2.7.7 * X2Go client 4.0.5.0 The X2Go client software is configured like this: - Session -- Session type: Connect to local desktop - Connection -- Connection speed: ADSL - Connection -- Compression: 4k-png - Input/Output -- Display: custom: 1440x874 Now the problems: If height of screen resolution on X2Go server session is '>= 874 px' you have to maximize window of X2Go client to see. That scales the content of X2Go window and text cannot be read. That can be tested with: 1. log in to X2Go server using above configuration - enable big screen - or use maximum resolution of small screen 2. reconnect with X2Go client to X2Go server If height of screen resolution on X2Go server session is '< 874 px' everything is fine. That means: 1. log in to X2Go server using above configuration 2. disable big screen 3. set resolution of small screen to 1156x856 px 4. reconnect with X2Go client to X2Go server However, the reduced resolution has the drawback of limited overview. The use case is: resuming local session with X2Go. All that is required to reproduce the problem is: - a big screen on the X2Go server that you connect to from an X2Go client that has a screen with smaller screen resolution - the session type must be 'Connect to local desktop' If a native X2Go session (f.e. session type: XFCE) is used this problem does not occur. This does not resume the local session, though. My failed attempts to solve the issues: I tried many different settings in X2Go Client to no avail. I read the documentation and found: http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:faq:start#ubuntu_s_and_fedora_s_kde_won_t… which does not make a difference to me. Furthermore, I found: http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:advanced:nx-keyboard-shortcuts ... List of possible ''action'' attributes left up right down which should move the viewport, according to: /etc/x2go/keystrokes.cfg on the X2Go server. I could not get that working on Mac OS X. Even with simplified shortcuts, like F7. I modified the keyboard shortcuts and restart the X2Go server to no avail. There is no other keystrokes.cfg file used. Has someone used the 'move viewport' functionality on Mac OS X? Am I doing something wrong? Shall I file a bug report? The problem is reproducable on 'Mac OS X 10.10' with a screen resolution of 1280x800 px. I tried to reproduce the problem on the same notebook with Windows 7 32 bit. A native X2Go session with XFCE session type works flawlessly. No issues with X2Go client window scaling. However, upon connecting to the X2Go server (KF5 as well as XFCE session) with session type 'Connect to local desktop' an error message appears: VcXsrv windows xserver (X2Go/Arctica Builds) --- VcXsrv windows xserver (X2Go/Arctica Builds) has stopped working Windows can check online for a solution to the problem. Greetings, I am setting up x2gobroker with multiple backends, and while I can change the port that they all use for ssh, I would need to set a different port per host to NAT them to the same public IP . Is there any way to do this at present ? where can I look for documentation? -dan

Questions regarding mate/video quailty

Hi everyone, I have following szenario: - server: Fedora 22 with gnome 3.16 (and mate) - client cubietruck (mini client like raspberry) - connected via 1Gb-LAN-cable - using LAN quality and no compression (but I also tried 16MB-jpg with no difference) 1) As I read in the docu, gnome 3.12+ is not supported, are there any plans in the near future? 2) After installing mate on the server, I didn't see an option "mate" on the client (4.0.1), only gnome, kde, lxde, xfce, so I choose "other desktop" (don't know if it's called exactly so, cause I have a german interface) and mate-session as parameter. Is this the correct way to use mate? 3) And this is my main point: Working seems to be fine so far, but when I start a video in mate (over x2go) it opens "parole media player" (seems to use gstreamer) and it says: "gstreamer backend error - Configured videosink video is not working". If I start videos with vlc they come up but are really slow und showing only each 5 seconds or so. If I use nomachine v4 they are not as fluent as if I sit in front of my "server", but at least they are acceptable. I don't have the gstreamer problems there. Is there something I can configure, does someone know this problem? videos I tested with are h.264 encoded if that matters. Thanks in advance, Harald

Problems with x2go

Hi, I'm a long-time VNC user trying out x2go after many people have recommended it, but I can't get it to work well when trying to set up x2go-sessions from Windows, so if anyone can help me out, I'd be grateful. Issue 1: First I tried "X2Go Client" and that one just keeps crashing on me. I only need to enter the "session preferences" dialog and as soon as I press ok (independent if I change anything or not), the program crashes and Windows tells me "x2goclient.exe has stopped working". Similar crash if I try to start a session. This with X2Go Client v. 4.0.5.0 (Qt - 4.8.6) on Windows 7. I tried an older version 4.0.2.x which did not crash so there seems to be something off with the most recent version. Known issue? Issue 2: So I installed PyHoCa-GUI instead. That one is stable and mostly works. But when I choose "custom command" as the session, it refuses to run any command with an absolute path and only accepts things in places like /usr/bin/. Perhaps it is some path-issue, but it also does not accept things in /home/myname/bin/, which is in my $PATH from the shell. Note: I'm using zsh as my login shell. Is this a bug or am I not supposed to be able to run things with absolute paths? (note: I have double-checked file permissions and the things I'm pointing to under /home are +rw for everyone). I don't want to have to put my session script in /usr/bin/ Question 1: No matter if I use the "X2Go client" or "PyHoCa-GUI", I don't get the keyboard behavior I would like. Using VNC, it will just map each keypress from Windows and pass those symbols into the server, which is important since I use a custom keyboard definition. That doesn't seem to work with x2go as I get pc104/us both if I tell it to "do not set" or "automatically detect". And if I choose "use custom keyboard", I can only select a "standard" keymap, I have no idea how to tell it to use a custom keymap. Is it so that x2go can't handle user-defined keymaps and only handles standard keymaps? Question 2: Font handling. I don't get the same set of fonts when I run through x2go as I get when using VNC as some directories are missing from the font path. Trying to manually add those from inside the x2go session ("xset +fp /some/path/that/works/in/vnc/") gives an error. Is there something special with the font handling in x2go that is not compatible with all X11 fonts? Running the same xset command from inside VNC succeeds without problem on the same machine. x2gobroker suspend mode

Hi, Sorry to my English .. I just finish a x2gobroker configuration with 2 x2goserver under RHEL 6_x64 associated with postgres databases. Broker works well to connect on each other but when we use "suspend mode" , x2goclent close windows and we can't access to suspended sessions. If I look in the databases the session status is ok on "s" , and a x2goclient direct access ( without broker) show me suspended session. Running application for multiple users

I have set up x2go on an Ubuntu 14.04 machine, and it connects and creates a new session fine. However, when I have the first session running an application like Firefox or Thunderbird, then have a 2nd user log in, the 2nd user cannot run Firefox. He gets a message "Firefox is already running". I thought I can connect with multiple users to the same host? It would not be useful if I can only have one connection. Or do I need a session broker for that? Regards Peter

Ctrl+Alt shortcut does not pass into Linux

Hi All, I am using x2go under Windows 7 with the latest VcXsrv. I connect to an Arch server and mainly using Emacs. In Emacs there are shortcut keys like Ctrl+Alt+A and Ctrl+Alt+K. But it seems like Emacs does not aware of these keys. logout session in PXE shows blue screen for some minutes

Hello, I'm using PXE for thinclient and after loging out and waiting for a new logging window for a KDE session, *sometimes* a blue screen appears with a cross. Blue screen remains for 2/3 minutes after logging window appears again. PXE server is on a different machine. application x2go server: 3.16.0-4-amd64 (Debian Jessie) with x2go packages for jessie. Hi ! I use thinclients (HP T620) with the embedded OS (HP ThinPro) I install the x2goclient (4.0.1.1) on it. My broker (ubuntu server 14.04, x2gobroker : 0.0.3.1) works fine and my server (xubuntu 14.04, x2goserver : 4.1.0.0) too (PPA nightly build). I can open session trough winbind authentification and everything works well. Next step is to allow the possibility of plugging a usb mass storage on the thinclient and connect it on the session wich is open on the x2goserver. It is possible ? If yes, how ? I try this configurations: Server: Debian Jessie (x2go Stable); Client: Gentoo Linux. Server: CentOS7 (x2go Stable); Client: Debian sid; Windows 7 Pro (x2go client). X2Go on multiple screen Windows system

I have used X2Go for some time, server is an openSuse 13.1 system, client is a Windows system. For now it is running Vista, I am trying to replace it with Windows 8 embedded (a HP thin client). The Windows system has two screens. I want to use screen 1 for Windows, screen 2 for a fullscreen Linux desktop. So I configured this in the X2Go client. (use whole display, select display number 2) However, I find that it does not work reliably. This already occurred on Vista, where it initially opens the session in a window and then quickly switches it to fullscreen. Unfortunately the initial small size is sent to the Linux session which adapts by resetting the desktop size, then the full screen size is sent a fractional second later. The result is that my window placement is all messed up. However, after switching to the newer Windows 8 the issue becomes more pronounced, the window now initially appears on screen 1 which is slightly smaller (because of the taskbar) and is then moved to screen 2, at which time the vxcsrv just crashes. I can work around it by starting a new session but it will not be full screen, there is an unused area the size of the taskbar. The server also does not crash when I select Fullscreen as the display mode (without Xinerama), but then I get the fullscreen mode on screen 1 instead of screen 2 as I desire. I see nothing about these problems in the documentation, do other users see those issues and/or is there something I am missing and can use as a workaround? Rob

PXE x2go questions

Hello, I'm using PXE thinclient in a gigabit LAN for a GNU/Linux KDE session. I have a two questions/issues: 1) Which is the best compression method? There are a lot of alternatives like "4k-png", which one may I choose? and may I use the "LAN" option? 2) sometimes the "Shutdown system button" in thinclient, doesn't work. No Mate desktop?

Hi, I have just succesfully installed x2go 4.0.1.19, both server and client are Debian Linux machines. According to the documentation Mate (which I run on server) is fully supported, however the drop-down field Session Type on client has no Mate entry. How can choose it? Thanks, Tad

Graphical apps stalling in suspended session

We ran into an odd issue recently that feels like a bug, but I wanted to throw it out to the community to see if anyone else has seen this or has any ideas. When we run a graphical app in xfce via X2Go and then suspend the session, the app continues to run, but significantly slower than if we remain connected. If we resume the session while the app is still running, it resumes its normal speed. This issue seems identical to bug 673 (<http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=673>), but this was closed because it was not reproducible. The simplest way I found to reproduce this is to have gnuplot plot in a loop, so it takes a while. If I use this input file: do for [a=1:200] { plot sin(x+a) } It runs in a reasonable amount of time while logged into an xfce x2go session: $ time gnuplot plot.txt real 0m6.059s user 0m1.348s sys 0m0.124s If I use a sleep first and suspend so gnuplot runs in the suspended session, it takes much longer: $ sleep 5; time gnuplot plot.txt real 2m24.365s user 0m1.516s sys 0m0.176s Another way to reproduce is to run glxgears and then suspend and resume. You’ll see that while suspended, the frame rate is significantly lower, but then resumes normal speed when the session is resumed. X2Go Centos 6 BROKEN

I have a number of CentOS 6 boxes still in service. Today one ate a disk so I re-installed it. But the X2Go RPM on ElRepo does not work, it's missing a bunch of things that are neither present in the CentOS repository or the ElRepo repository. Even if I chase them down with rpm.pbone.net and install the missing components it still doesn't work. I have checked the forum for similar threads, and applied the solutions given there, but it does not solve my problem. *The Problem: * I installed x2go server on a Ubuntu 14.04 VM running in XenServer 6.2. Using LXDE desktop, installed LXDE desktop bindings. Using regular Windows x2go client from Windows XP. No problem to create a session and run it. Added a shared folder for c:\Documents and Settings\Admin. The shared folder does not appear in the x2go session. On the server, using "df -h" to display the various disks gives the message: df: '/tmp/.x2go-sysadmin/spool/C-sysadmin-50-1439738979_stDLXDE_dp16': Transport endpoint is not connected sysadmin is the user name on the Linux Ubuntu 14.04 server used to log in to the session. It is the default user of that installation, no other user created. Curiously, when I re-issue the "df" command in the session a few times, the above error does not show again. It only shows the first time, and only if I do not use use sudo to issue the command. On earlier attempts, the path was different and contained "cygwin" somewhere in the middle of the path. But there was also no folder to connect to. *What I Tried: * Client and server can ping each other. I can log in with putty (SSH) to the server. Therefore, basic communications seem to be allright. Tried to disable strict host key checking on the server in the ssh config file. No result. Uninstalled desktop binding package and re-installed it a few times. No difference. I also installed MATE desktop, and installed XFCE. Same result. I understand that XFCE has no desktop binding package (if that package really has anything to do with that). At least, it did get the exact same error. At this point, I would need advice what I can check further, or what logs I can look into, as I do not know what to look for. ML Peter

We have been using x2go fairly successful on CentOS6 machines now for a while. We are investigating upgrading to CentOS7 and I am now looking at the x2go situation We get our x2go RPMS from EPEL x2goagent-3.5.0.31-1.el7.x86_64 x2goclient-4.0.3.1-1.el7.x86_64 x2goserver-4.0.1.19-3.el7.x86_64 x2godesktopsharing-3.1.1.1-1.el7.x86_64 So far we have not discovered 1) doesn't work at all with GNOME desktop giving the "Oops" screen. Web search seems to imply this is a known issue with GNOME3 with no real solution though I am suprised this is not mentioned in the X2Go wiki FAQ. I hate GNOME3 anyway so can live without it for X2Go 2) works partially with the KDE desktop. There is the kscreen issue that is mentioned in the FAQ. Really unusable unless one does disable kscreen. Need to investigate further what consequences that has on normal logins. 3) installed MATE from EPEL. On first login it looks and works great but when you "Logout ..." to terminate the session it just hangs on a blank background. If you "suspend" the session via force closing the window and then try to reconnect it fails or just takes you right back to the blank background. One can force terminate the session with x2goterminate-session to clear it out and then get a clean login again, but I don't really want my users having to go though this. So my question is really about the MATE issue which I would prefer to use. Hi, I could select shutdown or restart if I logged off in a xfce4 or kde session (maybee additional in other DEs). I reconize, that formerly the only choise was loggoff in former x2go sessions. Is this an x2go setting? bye, Gregor

Hi, Untill yesterday I used a X2go client 4.03 on windows 8.1 and it worked well. This morning X2go client starts (I mean that I see the program on the windows program bar) but I cant show it on the desktop. I m not able to use it any more. I installed the last version of the client , but I have the same problem. I have read in other post to output a log of the command vcxsrv.exe -logverbose 3 following I included the log output. Install problem

Hello, I have been using an older version x2go client for a while now and I like it. This morning I tried to install the new version. I uninstalled the old version then tried to install version 4.0.4 (32-bit version) on a 64-bit Windows 7. The install completes however, there are no sign of installed x2go. I tied to install the older version (4.0.3) but the same results. I have turned off the anti virus and run the install as administrator. Any suggestions. Regards, --jh

Greyed out buttons in Session Management.

Well, I just realized I have the same greyed out button issue on my X2GO client on my Windows box at home. So this has nothing to do with domains or profile migration. Basically in Session Management all buttons on the right are greyed out except "New Session" no matter what session I select on the left. Ctrl-S not recognized by x2go OS X client

I have a single Linux server that I connect to from x2go clients on both Windows and OSX computers. When I connect to the server from the Windows x2go client, ctrl-s is recognized just fine (for example, within emacs). When I connect to the exact same server, and same application on that server, from an OS X x2go client, the ctrl-s is somehow intercepted and is not received by emacs. Per a suggestion in a previous thread on this topic, running xev shows that the ctrl-s is really being received by X. Interestingly, when running KDE the ctrl-s doesn't work in emacs, however, when using LXDE ctrl-s does work in emacs (same server, same OSX client)! Anyone have ideas about what could be happening? Hi, We want use your product x2goclient windows in a LVS system. We had test the load balancing between two servers from x2goclient , it works fine except for "suspend" task. It seem not abnormal. Could you suggest me better method to configure a LVS access from your client - if you know of course- ? Otherwise there is a method to disable suspend button from windows manager ? A simple solution would be to launch client windows in thinclient mode to hide windows manager and suspend button but it appears ( it works under linux client). where are settings stored on Windows

Where on Windows does x2go client store its settings? I removed the /Users/loginname/.x2go directory but when I start X2Go client I still see the sessions I defined. I also uninstalled X2Go and reinstalled but the old session settings are still there. We did a profile migration between domains on the user's files and after that was done x2go stopped working. we are trying to start with a clean slate on the user. Whe she tries to start a session it just hangs forever on status connecting with no text in the log/debug window. If you go into edit sessions several buttons are grayed out include delete so we cannot delete the old sessions. Error resuming x2go "published applications" session from a different machine

I use two different client machines (both run ubuntu, one is 32 bit and one is 64 bit if that matters). X2goserver is running on a 32 bit ubuntu machine. I am trying to connect from client-1 an x2go published application session, suspend it and resume the same session from a client-2. I keep getting the following error. Failed to restore all the required screen depths. Can't resume the NX session on this display. I looked up the error, but I am not able to find a recent discussion on this error and suggested work-arounds involve giving up on the session and creating a new session, which beats my original purpose. I have verified that both client machines run at 24 bit color depth. Any ideas?

windows keyboard switch problem

Hi all! I'm new from x2go, and I install x2go server to the XFCE and client to the windows 7 I use latest package available on the repository for xfce and latest stable for windows. I have some problems: - When I connect with default properties I can't change my keyboard language from us to ru, but num lock panel work fine. - when I manually set language on the client side to ru I can't switch it to us and my nul loc panel dont work. [x2go][pyhoca-cli] - Reparent windows using xembed

Hi all, I'm one of the main Remmina contributors, a C/GTK application used to connect to a remote server using different protocols. We have an NX plugin, that I'm even not sure is working, so I decided to write an X2Go plugin. So far so good, I was able to implement a kind of wrapper around pyhoca-cli, but as I'm far to be a good developer, I'm having some hard time to try to embed/reparent, the X2Go windows inside our GTK container. This is usually achieved implementing the Xembed protocol, on both side and for what I can see/understand, X2Go, or at least Pyhoca-cli, doesn't. Am I wrong? In the case would it be possible to implement or are you aware of any other approach of doing it? The most valuable bit of information would be if resizing and Ctrl-Alt-R ever worked correctly. You say "[since] the latest x2goclient upgrade", which implies the behavior was different before. I don't know which version you were upgrading from/to (both would be interesting.) Also, you probably did upgrade x2goserver/nx-libs server side, too, right? Working vs. non-working versions would really be helpful here, too. Mihai

I saw this setting but for some reason it didn't affect anything when I changed it to 96. Could it be caused by the fact that ongoing (not logged out) session was active on the server (physical console) while I was trying to remotely connect to it via X2Go?
