X2Go and a complex command

I'm having some issue with a session command. I'm trying to launch x2go and have it run xterm -e 'qrsh -q interactive.q -pe sge_pe 1 -l m_core=1 /nfs/opt/ImageJ/ImageJ' This command works when run manually, and other commands like xterm -e 'qrsh -q interactive.q -pe sge_pe 1 -l m_core=1 matlab -desktop' work also. I get an error from x2go saying Connection Failed bash: -c: line 0: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `" bash: -c: line1: syntax error: unexpected end of file I got this with 4.0.2.0 with sh substituted for bash above, then tried 4.1.0.0 on Windows 7 x64. Two problems: Right click delayed and audio not working

Both of these problems appeared a few days ago in what used to be a functioning X2go client/server. The server is CentOS 7, x2goserver-4.0.1.20, the client is Fedora 25, x2goclient-4.1.0.0. Previously, when I started a KDE session, the startup music would play and I was able to play sound files and have the audio on the client. Now this does not work. Running mplayer gives messages saying that it failed to initialize audio driver pulse. When I right-click on a button in email or on a web page to display a menu, the application hangs for maybe 20 seconds before the menu appears. A left-click on a menu item also has a long delay. This happens with both Thunderbird and Firefox. I can run Thunderbird remotely using "ssh -X" and none of this behavior occurs. One odd thing is that this was happening a couple weeks ago and then disappeared. I don't know what caused the problem before or what changed to cure it. Firefox Browser Performance via X2Go - and a call for help on behalf of X2Go and Pale Moon

[crossposting this to x2go-dev/x2go-user; please reply to x2go-dev only] Hi $LIST, there have been numerous complaints in the past about Firefox' lack of performance when used in an X2Go session, especially over WAN connections. During some extensive testing and comparison of browser engines, we discovered that setting the following three values in about:config bring some improvement to current Firefox versions: gfx.xrender.enabled (boolean) true gfx.canvas.azure.backends (string) cairo gfx.content.azure.backends (string) cairo Note that xrender support is going away soon. What we also discovered is that the KDE3-fork Trinity <https://www.trinitydesktop.org/> brings a Konqueror browser version that performs way better than Firefox, even with the above three parameters enabled. Next, we discovered an actively maintained fork of Firefox 28 - named Pale Moon <https://www.palemoon.org/>. This gives comparable performance to Trinity-Konqueror, with the advantage of being way closer to Firefox in both UI design and codebase, so pages that work fine in Firefox should work fine in Pale Moon as well - something I wouldn't want to take for granted with Trinity-Konqueror. The one person I talked to in particular, Matt A. Tobin, suggested that the drop in performance came with the drop of support for GTK2. The Pale Moon developers would be interested in keeping GTK2 support even in their new core component, but would need some cash and especially some additional manpower in the form of skilled coders. So this is a call for help: - If you're a company that uses X2Go and is interested in supporting Pale Moon development, either financially or by assigning your own coders to the project, please let me know. - If you're a professional coder interested in working on Pale Moon as long as you get paid for it, please let me know. - If you're a volunteer coder that wants to work on Pale Moon just for the greater good of all, please let me know too. -> I will be coordinating all efforts from the X2Go side of things. New guy, new OBS repo and some issues

Hello everybody, after noticing this wonderful project, I started with a new openSUSE Build Service repo for x2go today: https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:frispete:RemoteDesktop:x2go since RemoteDesktop:x2go is somewhat orphaned and suffers from serious bit rot in some auxiliary packages. While at it, I've updated x2goclient to 4.1.0.1 already, and plan to update the other packages, that saw new releases, soon. Being a heavy remote user of all kinds (ssh, vnc, rdp), this project is a perfect fit. I never got NX to cooperate nicely, but always thought, that the basic concepts are sound. Anyway, I was able to install the x2goserver and x2goplasmabindings packages on a remote system (Leap 42.3 Virtualbox VM on a 42.3 host), and successfully connect to it with the x2goclient package, reaching out a nice and fresh KDE desktop. So far for the good news. After login, powerdevil crashes with signal 6 (related to non existing DimDisplay action). This in turn results in a drkonqi crash (sig 11). Probably related to these, the X2Go PLasma Bindings failed to remove the shut down and reboot actions in the K menu. Immediately logging out results in a ksmserver crash, that effectively prevents a successful log out, hence the session can only be terminated the hard way from the X2Go client UI. Parallel ssh sessions to the server appear locked at some point (not immediately after login, but somewhat later on). There are some konsole related issues, resulting in a delay by 1 to 6 seconds from any pressed key. Interestingly, xterm doesn't suffer from this behaviour. Are these effects known already? Any ideas/mitigations/workarounds? The "unboxing" experience is very nice already. The performance is great. Filing these issues as bugs starts with the question, what package they relate to? Ubuntu pulseaudio configuration

Greetings I am using X2GO to access and Ubuntu 17 server running Mate. I am having mixed success with the redirected audio to the client (which is running pulseaudio). I can aplay soundfile.wav and it successfully plays on the client. However, pavucontrol on the server core dumps, and any application other than aplay (eg mpg123) fails to send the audio (with no error reported at the server end). I wonder if anyone could advise on the correct Ubuntu pulseaudio configuration.... or has experienced this strange partly-working situation? With grateful thanks, Jamie

X2goClient with SSH key

Hello, I follow this tutoriel https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:advanced:authentication:passwordless-ssh but it does not work. I'm on Ubunut 16.04.3 LTS with kernel 4.4.0-97-generic. When I make a ssh user(a)my.server.com it's ok, I reach my server and connect immediatly. But when I use X2GoClient then I have a message : "Connection refused". I put the path of my private key on the field path for the sessions. I don't understand. Where did I miss a step? I’ve restarted DBUS, systemd-logind, x2goserver, and deleted the user .x2go directory, X2Go just goes black and disappears. Here are debug logs from a Mac. I was able to get around the below errors by deleting the user’s .x2go directory. Any reason why this continues to happen? We’re using the nightly builds. Here are some logs. Black screen of death - please help

Hi, I've recently upgraded from redhat 7.0 to 7.3 and as such lost some of my useful tools - one of which was x2go. So I reinstalled the relevant rpms and using the same client and config I now can login but just get a blank black screen with no way to open a terminal etc. I'm using XFCE (as I had before) - tries with gnome and few other session types all with the same result. Been googling this but can't seem to get an answer - appreciate any help as my stare is now as black and blank as the screen below! Client side and server side logs are below. Since this variable is then defined in the environment, bash won't touch it. Clearly x2gostartagent uses bash (even if called from a tcsh shell) - but it inherits the exported HOSTNAME value and stuff goes boom. In my opinion, that's a bug that the distro should take care of. x2go fails with tcsh

Hi, we just tried to x2go for the first time (client 4.0.5.2 server 4.0.1 on SLED 12). It works fine for users with bash as login shell on the server side, but fails for those with tcsh. According to http://blog.x2go.org/index.php/2012/07/26/x2go-sessions-startups-for-users-… this should have been fixed a while ago, but it seems to have returned. I couldn't see any difference neither in the server log (debug level) nor in the output of "x2goclient --debug". X2Go for non-bash users

We have found that a user whose default shell is tcsh is affected by bash startup files when running X2Go. I assume this because x2go runs under the bash script x2goruncommand and inherits its environment. Is this correct? Is there any way around this problem? Thanks. -- Marlin

ttyname failed error

It's not a problem of the of the Xserver. A (software) screenshot shows a correct screen, this is what the Xserver "thinks" he would display whereas the real screen is scrambled. But only in the case of a x2go-connection, not in local operations. And - as described before - only when using hardware of somehow low performance together with HDMI connection. Hello, we are using x2go server and clients both on Ubuntu 16.04. After configuring new clients on small single board boxes like a ZODAC Zbox or a Raspberry Pi 3 we observe severe screen redrawing problems an a very poor performance in video transfer. E.G. shifting a Thunderbird-window over a Firefox-window the latter remains scrambled with rests of Thunderbird. We didn't run into that problem in our former installation based on Ubuntu 12.04. After searching for solutions in the compression method and the CPU-performance of the clients I occasionally found out that the problem disappears after connecting the client's monitor via VGA instead of a HDMI connection. The problem even disappears when a HDI/VGA-Adapter is used and the signal is fed to the monitor via an VGA-input. This was tested with different monitors. In our former clients we only used VGA connected monitors and so we could not see the problems. The optical quality of a HDMI connected Monitor is notably better than that of VGA connected one, furthermore the VGA connection seems to become obsolete, so we would like to stay with HDMI. Hi ! My server run xubuntu 16.04. users can open session and work with applications. When they activate the x2godesktopsharing program, they see the icon on the systray and can activate the desktop sharing. So, then i launch the x2goclient with local desktop as profil. The session openned and i can see all x2godesktopsharing that run on the server. I select a session, ans try ton connecter with all rights. The user as a windoWs wich ask him to accept the connexion. After that, à second Windows come and want tout authentify as the admin user tout allow running applications as a different user. In auth.log, i see something like polkitd .... Any ideas ? Regards. This customer with MacOS 10.x and 4.1.1.0 of Ubuntu gets this error, he also gets it with previous versions. I have an older Mac Pro 1,1 running Mac OS 10.7.5 and I also get this error if I try to login to a ubuntu server with a normal username but if I login as root it works fine. I tried moving /etc/profile out of the way just to eliminate the bashism's issue, made no difference. Client version 4.1.1.0 and 4.1.0.0 both core dump on my machine with a invalid kernel address error. 4.0.0.1 does not but still gets this same error. I can login to the same Ubuntu server with regular user ID's using 4.1.1.0 under Linux just fine. QuestaSim major issue

Hi , I know that it as been discuss at one point in the forum but the thread ended. We are using a tool call Qestasim from mentor graphc. It use TK a GUI widget. The probleme is when using this tool in publish application all the others application seem to freeze and x2go is unusable. This seem to related to NX in some way becasue i have the same issue with openx. Also when using in desktop mode it is all fine.. We have a couple of application with lightweith application written in TK also and it seem a bit slower with those app. Any hint would be appreciate on how to debug this.. Thanks for your help. Carl

I always had problems with OSX and x2go. In my case it was on a fedora Fc20. I solved setting up English on the target machine and then providing a xmodmap keymapping. Emacs crashes on start

Hi I'm connecting from a Mac (X2Go Client v. 4.0.5.1 (Qt - 4.8.7)) to Fedora 24 with a xfce session using the x2goserver-4.0.1.19-11.fc24.x86_64 packages from the fedora repos. On starting emacs, I get the error below. This issue seems to have been around for a while in similar forms, but didn't affect me under Fedora 22. Is anyone in a position to confirm this issue on Fedora 24 and suggest a work around? Dear all, I am getting myself comfortable with X2goclient. However, I cannot get the special characters in the remote environement (# @ etc., principally the AltGr functions). Local install of x2goclient, Auth ok but no X Server Windows

Hello everyone, I'm on a work machine where I do not have root access. So I'm installing all the software I need in $HOME/.local. I successfully compiled x2goclient (after compiling a personal version of libssh, but still using nx-libs present in the system), I get the GUI. I can successfully authenticate on the remote server, but nothing shows up. My first guess is the nx-libs too old, or not compatible with the version I compiled. Shared directory from Windows client does not mount

I'm having several X2go installations, on several servers and for several users/clients. The problem is that shared directory mounting does not *usually* work on those computers, which have cygwin installed before installing X2go client. For some servers, it works even on those. I can't find out any rule there, as from some client computer, connections to some X2go servers work fine and on some X2go servers, the shared directory does not mount. Anyway, on those computers, which doesn't have cygwin installed, the shared directory mount seems to always work. The only clue I have found is that on /var/log/syslog on the server, there are following lines: ---8<---8<--- /usr/bin/x2gomountdirs[23874]: WARNING: mounting of /cygdrive/C/Users/xxx/X2GO_S~1 failed ---8<---8<--- I have tried to follow hints on some pages, which recommend decreasing permissions on client computer's .x2go/etc directory, but no help. The current installation is: Client: Windows 10 64bit Professional (does not matter, some of installations are Windows 7) X2go client version 4.0.5.2 Server: Ubuntu 16.04 (does not matter - some of servers are 16.10) X2go server version 4.0.1.20-0~1125~ubuntu16.04.01 The server was installed from X2go's PPA source. On Windows for x2goclient - is it possible to change the location of the folder located C:\Users\******\.x2go ? I would like to relocate it to pretty much anywhere else besides my Users folder, for example adding it to my installation folder - C:\Program Files (x86)\x2goclient - or even C:\.x2go would be preferable to C:\Users\******\.x2go Thanks, Woz

Hi X2Go users I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.3, kernel 4.9.44-54, on an Odroid XU4. When I try to run Kstars within an x2go session I get this error: *failed to get the current screen resources* *The X11 connection broke: Unsupported extension used (code 2)* *XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":50.0"* * after 6 requests (6 known processed) with 0 events remaining.* I can run Kstars directly on the console or remotely using ssh -X forwarding, but not under x2go. It also works fine using Xpra, or VNC. But I would prefer to use X2Go as it has much better performance than VNC, and I really would like to have the whole desktop environment, instead of just the application as I can using Xpra or ssh -X forwarding. Any ideas what I can do to make Kstars work in x2go?

I get when I have the printer support in the client activate the following error after logging in, see appendix. This error message I also get on a 64 bit Windows 10. Do you have an idea? The x2go server runs on an Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Until now, it is only running on Windows 8.1 64Bit and on another Ubuntu client 16.04 (64 bit). Maybe you can give me a tip, where can I look for? Hi, I am trying to run i3 inside the remote server using pyhoca-gui, but when I use "Custom Command" to 'i3' (also tried with 'exec i3'), it gives me a blank screen of remote desktop to local machine. Can you share how did you manage to connect to remote session running i3 with local machine also running i3? Fyi, I could not get it achieved x2goclient itself, because if the local machine running x2goclient is also running i3 and the remote session, too, the key combination tend to execute only on the local machine running x2goclient, but not inside the remote instance of x2goserver, reportedly a limitation of nx-libs < 3.6 which is still in development and not available in Ubuntu 16.04 till these lines are written. How to purge zombie sessions after a user is deleted

I am not sure if this is a bug, but it looks like x2gocleansessions keeps trying to open some previously saved session created by a deleted user. Those two user accounts (trainer1 and trainer7) were created for an event previously, but after the event, both accounts have been deleted. A reboot does not solve the issue. As long as you run "sudo service x2goserver restart", the error log comes back and keeps repeating itself. Can someone suggest a way to purge these zombie sessions so that I don't see the error logs again? thanks

Timeout user sessions

Hello everyone, I was wondering if there is a way to timeout sessions after a certain period of inactivity? I have several users launching application through X2Go and they may leave the windows idle for several days. Ideally I would like to be able to kill those sessions after a certain period of inactivity. Is this possible? Thanks! I've tried xfce and lxde. It seems on fedora 26 each time I try to resume a session it starts from a blank state - not resuming previous session. I did not have this issue with fedora 25. Any ideas?

Everything you need to know about X2Go-TCE-Live can be found here: <http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:howto:tce> The most important change is probably the one documented in this diff: <http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:howto:tce?do=revisions> It allows you to query which versions of X2Go-TCE are installed/running, if you are using local storage/writable portable media in combination with the updateurl= boot parameter. This is really helpful if you are using some kind of monitoring software - now you can monitor update progress. Also, all log output from our custom startup/if-up scripts is now written to /dev/tty8 as soon as it becomes available, and once a network interface is "up", an attempt is made to sync time using the ntpdate command (at present, it uses the ntp servers that are used as defaults in Debian; the code could be expanded to use custom ones if required). Compatibility between x2go deb packaged versions

Hi to all ! I've got a x2go server 4.0.1.20 running on debian 8, and I am surprised that my x2goagent 4.1.0.0 running on debian 9 fails to connect to the server... The error message is : "Unable to create SSH tunnel : Connexion error on localhost:1000" Is there a way to maintain compatibility between versions ? What are the recommendations ? Thanks ! Olivier B

I've been using X2go on Ubuntu linux (client) and a dozen or so flavors of Linux servers without any great problems. I have to compile nx-libs myself on some of them to use the nightly build and not have resolution issues but otherwise all good. I recently setup my Mac with MacOS again (stil have Ubuntu, it is dual boot), and I can not get x2go to work under MacOS. It connects but just gives a black screen. Why does X2Go spawn so many shells in single-application mode?

Greetings. I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem where my PATH environment variable isn't getting set correctly when launching a terminal via X2Go. Perhaps this is a problem with the way I have my Bash files set up, but on the other hand it may be an X2Go bug related to Bug 149: <https://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=149>. Anyway, to trace the execution path, I've added logging messages to all the files sourced by Bash. I immediately noticed that whenever I make an X2Go connection, four(!) separate Bash processes are spawned, not including the Bash process launched by the terminal itself. The parents of all four shells are the sshd process. By contrast, logging in on the console or via SSH results in just a single Bash process. Why does X2Go cause so many shells to be launched in single-application mode? Here are some steps to reproduce my logs, in case anyone is interested: 1. On the X2Go server, add lines such as the following to the beginning and end of /etc/profile and any other files that normally get sourced by Bash shells on your system (/etc/bash.bashrc, ~/.bash_profile, ~/.profile, ~/.bashrc, etc.): echo $(date) Entering /etc/profile $$ $PPID >>/tmp/login echo $(date) Leaving /etc/profile $$ $PPID >>/tmp/login 2. touch /tmp/login && chmod 666 /tmp/login 3. On the X2Go client, configure a connection to the X2Go Server with the "Session type" set to "Single application". For the command, choose /usr/bin/xterm or your favourite terminal emulator. (Note that /usr/bin/gnome-terminal doesn't work due to <https://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=900>.) Then launch the connection and examine the logs in /tmp/login. Apart from the shell launched by the terminal emulator, you'll see four different shell processes were already launched -- the process ID and parent process ID are the last two fields of the log file. Examining the output of pstree -p shows that these shell processes are no longer running, and that their parents were all sshd. 4. Log in to the X2Go server again, this time from the console or via a vanilla SSH connection, and examine the /tmp/login file. This time you'll notice that the only shell process is the one you're in. can't get x2g0 to work with wsl

Ok, I'm very confused.. I've installed just about every x2go item in apt search and still no go. I'm running wsl, fully updated and upgraded. I've tried numerous docs and steps to get it to work and it always says it can't timeout connecting to 192.168.1.137:8888 Can someone PLEASE help me figure this out. if I try the browser plugin it says "invalid plugin" here's the main thing I've been following, as you can see session.conf is not in /etc like he said it would be. Issue with specific application

Hi Let me first say that x2go is working very nicely. Most of our application are running just fine in multiwindows mode. But we notice that application that are base on the TCl/TK widget seem to be much slower in refreshing and even freezing all windows running over x2go. One the specific application is mentor graphic questasim. We also have internal application written in perl/tk that seem to slower compare to others. I have many different setting but nothing help. If i run in desktop mode the application work fine. Any help would be appreciated. Regards CL

Guys, I've got an x2go session where it looks like there's some disagreement internally between what the state really is on the system.
