I am having difficulty connecting with the most recent stable of x2go for Windows on Windows 10 to my Linux servers. I am getting a KEX error (Key exchange error). Failed to start X2Go Agent Session

Hello After some user's session got broken due to a client/server incompatibility, the user deleted all their session data and then told me they can not log in at all anymore. At first I could not see any problem (everything worked as expected for me), but when I deleted my own /tmp/.x2go-danielk directory, I started having the exact same problem. The error I get is: Agent output: "Failed to start X2Go Agent session with ID danielk-50-1539704304_stRTERMINAL_dp24. X2Go Agent terminated unexpectedly. Aborting session startup. The complete relevant last part of the debug log is pasted below. The session.log for this session contains the error Error: Aborting session with 'Unable to open display 'nx/nx,options=/tmp/.x2go-danielk/C-danielk-50-1539704304_stRTERMINAL_dp24/options:50''. Do you have any idea how I can get this working again. It appears to me that something is not functioning accordingly with the session management, because the session state file remains in state STARTING and if I try logging in again then I get asked whether I want to terminate or suspend the running session (can't resume) Thanks for any help. Dear $ALL, As stated in the subject line, X2Go: The Gathering 2018 will take place at Stuttgart's hackerspace "shackspace", from Friday afternoon, 2018-11-09, to Sunday afternoon/evening, 2018-11-11. So, only a little more than 4 weeks from now. X2Go: The Gathering is the annual event where users, admins, and developers of X2Go meet face to face, to discuss current X2Go-related issues, fix open bugs, and have a good time getting to know each other. As there is some overlap between X2Go, Arctica, and ORCA e.V., you can expect to see members of those groups as well. Food and beverages are available on-site at low cost. What will cost you money is if you need a place to sleep - we have a few hotels/hostels that we recommend; If you want to take part, and need a hostel/hotel room, please contact me at <X2Go-ML-1(a)baur-itcs.de> ASAP, so we can find a hostel/hotel room for you. Local Desktop access crashes client almost immediately

I'm running Scientific Linux 7.4 on the server, and Windows 7 on the client. I want to access my accounts (non-privileged) local desktop remotely. I log in and select the local desktop option in the client. I get a flash of the desktop (with the wrong screen size remotely anyway - I see a small part of the desktop) and then the Windows X server crashes. x2goserver-4.0.1.20-1.el7.x86_64 X2Go Client v. 4.1.0.0 Any ideas? -- James Pulver CLASSE Computer Group Cornell University

x2goclient segfault with ubuntu 18.04 kde

Hi I'm getting a segfault on kde (at the moment it's the neon.kde.org packages, but before it was kubuntu) on ubuntu 18.04. How do I debug the crash or better still, how do I fix the crash? I've never left an individual session connected for more then a day and I frequently drop the connection after afew hours. Everything should reconnect and be exactly where you left it. I have several users complaining that they "lose" their X2Go session after a week or two and have to re-connect. This is on our local LAN so it's unlikely to be a network drop, though there may be a momentary interruption. Is there any way of shortening the x2go mount point?

The length of the x2go mount point spoils the output of 'df -m' such that it's almost unusable, so, can it be shortened? I have just installed x2go (server on my xubuntu 18.04 desktop, client on my xubuntu 18.04 laptop). I am using it to run Digikam as a 'Single Application'. I must say it was incredibly easy to set up and get working, congratulations to the developers. The text in Digikam is a bit too large, i tried increasing the DPI in the session settings but that seemed to have no effect (or maybe it made the text even bigger!). So, is there a way to make the text smaller? -- Chris Green

Hi $LIST, According to Mike#1, who currently attends DebConf in Montreal, Debian 9 + X2Go Stable + KDE5/Plasma have been shown to work together. This is a single report so far, though. If anyone is willing and able to test and confirm this, it would be highly appreciated. Another test result we'd be interested in would be what happens if you use Arctica NX-Libs and X2Go Heuler instead of X2Go Stable. X2go server and pgpool

I'm trying to get x2go server running in a high availability environment, which includes using pgpool for replication etc. I've got my /etc/x2go/x2gosql/sql file setup this way: backend=postgres host=<hostname> port=9999 When I try x2godbadmin -createdb I get a pgpool error I don't understand: DBI connect('dbname=x2go_sessions;host=<hostname>;port=9999;sslmode=disable','postgres',...) failed :ERROR: unable to read message kind DETAIL: kind does not match between master(53) slot[1] (45) at /sbin/x2godbadmin line 530. Backend=postgres at /sbin/x2godbadmin line 530. When I connect with pgAdmin I can see that the x2godbuser has been created and the x2go_sessions database has been created. If I try to connect to the database I get this error [cid:image002.png@01D44F61.9E2EB470] If I change the port= to 5432 (the default postgresql port) the command works fine. So, I guess my first question is, is this sort of setup supported? If so, is there any documentation or suggestions? x2go error: Failed to start Agent (terminated unexpectedly)

Hi all, I am in the process of evaluating x2go as an alternative to VNC. It looks very promising, but we are running into an odd issue. I am running a basic setup: x2goserver-xsession is installed on a CentOS 7 machine, users connect to it using the x2go client (either from Linux or Windows) and receive a KDE desktop. When connecting, I get this error (from /var/log/messages): <HOSTNAME> /usr/sbin/x2gocleansessions[124414]: <USERNAME>-50-1537370420_stDKDE_dp24: state file for this session does not exist: /tmp/.x2go-<USERNAME>/C-<USERNAME>-50-1537370420_stDKDE_dp24/state│ <HOSTNAME> /usr/bin/x2gostartagent: Failed to start X2Go Agent session with ID <USERNAME>-50-1537370420_stDKDE_dp24. X2Go Agent terminated unexpectedly. Aborting session startup. │ The same error "Failed to start agent..." is shown in the x2goclient. I have narrowed this down to one line in my bashrc: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib64:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH If I comment this line, I can start sessions without any issue. As part of my debugging, I have set the x2go server log level in /etc/x2go/x2goserver.conf: [log] loglevel=debug Any suggestions for next steps? Where is the openSUSE Tumbleweed repository?

Greetings. I want to use the X2Go Repository (not the official openSUSE one) to install X2Go on openSUSE Tumbleweed. According to <https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:repositories:suse#adding_the_x2go_repos…> the main and extras repositories should be located at <http://packages.x2go.org/opensuse/tumbleweed/main> and <http://packages.x2go.org/opensuse/tumbleweed/extras>, respectively. The extras repository is there but the main repository is not. Has something happened to it? Problem restoring connection on Ubuntu 18.04

I have a very strange problem with x2goserver running on Ubuntu 18.04. I get an error message on the client side when I try to suspend the connection. I also, can't reconnect to existing connections. I haven't had this problem with 16.04. I tried debugging the problem and I discovered that /var/lib/x2go/x2go_sessions database is not getting updated when connection is created. I tried erasing and re-creating the database, same problem. Even running perl script manually: /usr/lib/x2go/libx2go-server-db-sqlite3-wrapper.pl insertsession,50,blah,blah-50-1536602027_stRkonsole_dp doesn't change the database. I installed x2goserver from ppa:x2go/stable following instructions on x2go page. What could be the reason for this? How do I debug it further? Thank you. Attention all users of Pale Moon and X2Go

Hi List, Pale Moon (a Firefox fork) up to version 27 was/is the recommended browser to use via X2Go, as it performs way better than current Firefox and its derivatives, especially over slow links. With version 28, this is no longer true. Something broke during that update, and performance is now about as slow as with a regular, current Firefox. We have at least one commercial offer by a developer to get this investigated and fixed, and currently one customer interested in sponsoring this work. However, they fear that the actual fix might exceed their budget. So, is anyone else out there that needs a fast, and supported/up-to-date browser in an X2Go session? If so, please either reply in this thread or contact me via E-Mail. Dear all, There used to be an X2Go Blog at <http://blog.x2go.org>, which could be read as an RSS feed at <http://blog.x2go.org/index.php/feed/>. They seem to have disappeared a few months ago. Does anyone know what happened to them? Is there currently any way of getting X2Go-related news (release announcements, etc.) via RSS? Dear $ALL, since nobody has replied to the call for volunteers for the IT-Kongress event (see <https://www.mail-archive.com/x2go-project@lists.x2go.org/msg00278.html>), and since we've lost a sponsor, compared to the previous years, it is very likely that X2Go: The Gathering 2018 will have to take place at Stuttgart's hackerspace "shackspace" (<https://shackspace.de/>) - "will have to" meaning that we're out of suitable alternatives due to both time/volunteer staff as well as financial constraints. Thus, there will be no voting period regarding the location this year, we'll simply have to pick the only option that seems to be left at the moment. The last-resort fallback option would be Ulm's youth hostel (both as an event location as well as for sleeping arrangements), but this would mean groups of 4 people would have to share one room, as they do not offer smaller rooms - which, judging from previous years' feedback, is not a situation most of our participants would be happy with. This is why we're not offering a poll with Stuttgart and Ulm as options. For Stuttgart, we're looking at a hostel-like place that offers single and double rooms, as well as at a hotel nearby, for people that prefer a higher-quality sleeping arrangement. Details will be published on the Wiki at <https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/events:x2go-gathering-2018> as soon as the two sites have confirmed room availability and replied with their booking cancellation terms. keyboard layout driving me insane

On client side, I have layout set to map caps lock to ctrl. I need this also when using x2go! But it seems hard to achieve. In x2go, I try both 'autodetect keyboard' and 'don't configure keyboard'. I try mate, xfce, lxde. On the server side I would like to try also configure keyboard layout, but I don't find any good way to do it on those window managers. Unfortunately, neither KDE nor GNOME will work (both client and server are fedora 28). Sometimes I seem to hit a combination that works, but then when if the connection is terminated and I try again, it's once again not preserving my key remapping. This is driving me nuts! Any recommendations?

x2go client users don't show up in "users" or "who" (Ubuntu 18.04)

When users connect to our server via ssh or mosh, the "users" or "who" command work properly, and you can see the list of logged-in users. However, when users connect via the x2go client (from Windows or Mac) - they do not appear in either "users" or "who". Has anyone observed this problem and know how to fix it? Alan

Hello, I have been having intermittent problems with getting into x2go on RH6 machine. Recently, after update of x2go server and client, I am not having any success in connecting. I saw the same message before but I was able to connect after I tried multiple times (usually success rate about 10%). Problem installing x2go on RHEL6

I am having problems with x2go so after going through a number of suggestions and running deeper into a hole, I decided to remove and reinstall. I removed using yum yum remove x2goserver yum remove x2goserver-session I see that x2go rpm are available when I run "yum search x2go". However, when I try to install, I get error downloading packages. *Any suggestions appreciated. Log-in problem after NVIDIA card update

Hi all, Asking for help please troubleshooting an issue with x2go. Inbound connections stopped working after I updated the kernel and nvidia drivers on my centos workstation (the x2go server). On the client, the error message says "Connection failed. Failed to start X2Go Agent session with ID account-_____. X2Go Agent terminated unexpectedly. Aborting session startup." [If I attempt a connecion again the client shows a previous apparently pre-existing connection, but I cannot resume it.] On the server, the session log says "Error: Aborting session with 'Unable to open display 'nx/nx,options=...". I have attempted uninstalling and reinstalling x2goserver from epel. This symptoms are similar to an issue Mihai Moldovan resolved for Qianqian Fang in April: https://www.mail-archive.com/x2go-user@lists.x2go.org/msg02809.html However, I do not have the offending line set in LD_LIBRARY_PATH which solved the issue for Qianqian. #Contents of LD_LIBRARY_PATH (this is from env after ssh-in). LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/cuda/lib64:/home/[...]/caffe/distribute/lib/::/usr/lib:/usr/lib/python2.7 I also attempted commenting out this setting from .bashrc, and that did not fix it. I've copied below answers to some questions Mihai asked Qianqian. The only strange thing I noticed is that Mihai asked for the contents of /usr/lib64/nx/X11 , and this is empty. The library Qianqian listed in there is located at /usr/lib64 on my server. Some more details below, answering questions that were made on this earlier, similar troubleshooting request. On all of my Ubuntu servers when accessing via x2go and mate desktop, I no longer see the background, just solid black. Problem with SHIFT, Linux server, Mac client

I'm using x2go on MacOSX, connecting to a Linux server. I'm hitting this weird behavior that after pressing SHIFT, some keys don't work. This is quite annoying when typing. For example, when I hold SHIFT and press SPACE, I'm getting these events from xev (Linux - server side), and SPACE doesn't show. Note the "NoSymbol" below. Clipboard copy paste keeps being unreliable for years now

Hi, I have been using X2go with a Debian Server and Linux Debian and Windows 7 clients for ages now. Most of the time it works flawlessly, but one thing that bugs the hell out of me is that copy paste via clipboard from Client to server does not work reliably. It works most of the time, but then it just fails, when I copy something, and paste in the target machine, nothing gets pasted. Now I want to troubleshoot and fix this once and for all. Hello list, I use "Custom desktop" as windowmanager, I start the session with a script with the client name as parameter. In this way I'm able to find the client name of the station which /initialized/ the session. But is there a way to see which client /resumes/ an already existing session? I've installed x2goserver on Enso, a Ubuntu derived Linux. It works find as root, but as a non-root user it fails. execute xmodmap on resume

Hello list, Not an x2go problem, but maybe someone might be able to guess what is happening here. I made a chmod 755 shell script: $ cat /usr/lib/x2go/extensions/post-resume.d/010-xmodmap #!/bin/dash test -f ~/.Xmodmap || exit 0 /usr/bin/xmodmap -display $DISPLAY ~/.Xmodmap When resuming an x2go session, the script is executed, but x2go session starts but does not show up. The problem is that in one or another way, the xmodmap executable is waiting for something, but I have no idea what. Putting the xmodmap line to the background using an "&" makes the x2go session start, but the xmodmap mappings are not set. I still have to set the key mappings manually by invoking "xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap". Anyone a hint on what's going on here? R. -- richard lucassen http://contact.xaq.nl/

disappearing X window

When reconnecting to a session the window appears briefly then disappears. The ssh session is still up. The only way I can get back into the session is if I go in the client and change it to fullscreen and then reconnect.

using a xfce compositor with x2go server/client

I've just installed x2go server on a new desktop running linux mint 19 xfce. (My client is on Ubuntu 14.04.) I was disappointed to find that the xfce doesn't work with this setup. Have I done something wrong? Are there any other ways that I can get a compositor to work with x2go?

Hello everyone and a big up from Paris. Someone has already managed to run the x2goplugin plugin? I block to: cp /usr/share/x2go/plugin/x2goplugin.html /usr/share/x2go/plugin/x2goplugin.html.orig I can not find the file after installation of apache. MATE screensaver is not activated when connected via x2go

Keyboard doesn't work from Mac OSX to Scientific Linux 7 x2go server

The keyboard is unusable when launching XFCE on SL7.4 via X2Go from OS X. icewm-session works fine on SL7, and XFCE works fine on SL6. We've tried different versions of the Agent with no change... -- James Pulver CLASSE Computer Group Cornell University

Hi! I wanted to run the x2go client from the command line to display the "username" and "password" fields only, like it happens when using pyHoca-GUI. The problem is that whenever my users hit the "CANCEL" button they always see the list of available sessions at the right of the window, which I wanted to avoid. I've tried a command line such as: x2goclient.exe --no-session-edit --disable-pulse --session=MYSESSION --close-disconnect --hide-foldersharing --no-autoresume --no-menu I don't want to use the pyHoca-GUI because it's too slow to start (at least in our environment) Thanks, alaxa
