Hi! How can I access Windows 10 Pro with RDP from the X2go client (4.0.1.1)? My attempts always end with the message "ERROR: recv: Connection reset by peer" Bye, Olaf

New (unofficial) openSUSE packages available

Greetings. The official X2Go RPMs for openSUSE have been broken or missing for many months. (See Bugs 1358, 1360, 1403, and 1427, as well as numerous problem reports on this mailing list over the past year.) Essentially it is no longer possible to install X2Go on openSUSE Leap and openSUSE Tumbleweed using the RPMs provided by X2Go. (And if you happen to have X2Go already installed, it is not possible to upgrade your openSUSE system without removing X2Go.) I suppose the developers are too busy to fix this problem, so I have built openSUSE RPMs of x2goclient, x2goserver, and pinentry-x2go myself using the latest SCM versions: openSUSE Leap 15.1 packages for x86_64: <https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/psych0naut:/x2go/openSUSE_…> openSUSE Tumbleweed packages for i586 and x86_64: <https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/psych0naut:/x2go/openSUSE_…> I have not contributed packages for openSUSE Leap 15.0 as that distribution reached end of life earlier this month. However, if anyone really needs those packages, let me know and I can see if I can get the openSUSE Build Service to produce them. Similarly, if anyone needs any other X2Go packages for openSUSE Leap 15.1/Tumbleweed, let me know and I may be able to contribute these as well. Note that I do not have any sort of automated system in place for keeping these builds in sync with the latest commits to X2Go. I consider my builds to be a stopgap measure until the X2Go developers fix their own nightly build system. Cursor key mappings sometimes break on reconnect

Hello, I currently have the problem that my long-running x2go session works just fine, but after several weeks the cursor key mappings are suddenly garbled after re-connecting the session, and stay that way. The only way to "fix" the issue seems to be restarting it. Right now only cursor down works, and does the same thing as the Enter key. Cursor up, left and right are without function. I had a similar issue for at least 2 years before, where the Del key stopped working. That scenario seems to have been replaced by the one with the cursor keys for the last few months. (I'm just noticing that there seem to be even more issues - the Del key is now Print, and AltGr beeps. Usually I restart the session very soon, because it's not good to work with a misbehaving keyboard, so I didn't notice these before.) I *think* the problems start when re-connecting the session takes a few seconds longer than usually, but it's hard to tell because the issue happens rarely and infrequently. remote: Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS x2goserver 4.1.0.3-0~1708~ubuntu16.04.1 local: Devuan GNU/Linux 2.1 (ascii) x2goclient 4.1.2.1-0x2go1+git20180626.1801+8.main.1 Redefining the keyboard settings with setxkbmap does not help. Output from xmodmap -pk with or without the issue present doesn't show a difference. xev -even keyboard has some interesting output though, see https://pastebin.com/kKEgeSDB And indeed, my AltGr key now works as cursor left, as far my current x2go session is concerned. I would be happy if someone had an idea how to reset my key mappings without restarting the session. But if I could help debugging the issue for good, that would be nice, too :) Hanno

Cannot launch GThumb (double free or corruption)

Hello, User since long of x2go, I'm now facing the following issue : - client host is XUbuntu 19.10, with a 4.1.2.1-2 client - server host is XUbuntu 19.10, with a 4.1.0.3-4 server Everything sounds good and I can do basically anything I want (things are responsive, colours are OK, aso...) But when running the images viewer "GThumb", the software is not launching and stops with the following error : double free or corruption (!prev) Abandon (core dumped) Obviously, I made my homeworks and search around for clues. Though I find many similar cases with people having the same issue, it doesn't seem specifically related to x2go not gthumb. BUT... Yet I send this message here because my target server is also a workstation I use everyday *not remotely* and on which I can perfectly run gthumb. Should I look at some colour depth settings, at missing libraries, or could anyone lead me to some precise x2go settings I could tweak? Thank you. -- Nicolas

'Escape' key combination

I am trying to assign full screen x2go sessions to individual workspaces in MATE and then cycle through them using my DE's keyboard shortcuts. However x2goclient and pyhoca-cli eat all of my key combinations so I cannot cycle through the workspaces. In other similar software (virt-viewer) it is possible to assign a dedicated key combination (e.g. Ctrl-Alt) to momentarily stop key grabbing, after which a keyboard shortcut can be passed to the client OS. This makes it easy to assign macros to certain keys (Ctrl-Alt + Ctrl-Alt-Right to move one workspace to the right) to navigate multiple VMs in workspaces, etc. I'd like to see this functionality added to x2go. I've tried using the keystroke assigned to "deactivate_input_devices_grab" (Ctrl-Alt-y) to ~/.x2go/config/keystroke.cfg but that seems to have no effect on whether the keys are grabbed. Strangely I have also tried setting a key combo to "ignore" in keystroke.cfg and restarted x2goserver, but it is still interpreted by my remote desktop session. So I'm not sure if this is broken altogether.

Hi all, I cross-checked but when I try to log in with the "try auto login" box unchecked, I get the following error again: Access denied. Authentication that can continue: publickey,password I am trying to use XFCE now, installed the xfce desktop on my server with "sudo apt install -y xubuntu-desktop", but when I try to start the session, a window (black window with "X2Go" in it" just quickly opens and then immediately closes again so no succes here either unfortunately. Windows 10 zoom?

Ok so as an admin one of the issues that is beginning to hit me is the zoom issue. Newer laptops have ungodly resolutions 4K displays and they set the max resolution by default with a 200% zoom so that the people can read the text. Now when they start a x2go session the text appears huge. Is there a way to set the zoom different for x applications?

x2go on KDE Neon / Kubuntu 18.04

Hi! I would like to use x2go server and client on some KDE5 systems (Kubuntu 18.04 and KDE Neon 18.04). I tried to find information about installing x2go server on these systems but the only thing I found is that it used to work for KDE4 and that there are rumors that it maybe works with KDE5. Well, I am not a Linux expert. Before crashing my system or failing completely, please tell me, does x2go server work on KDE5 (Neon or Kubuntu)? If yes, what do I need to do to install it? I want the server to server to start a new desktop session if needed or use an existing desktop session if the specified user is already logged in. Keybinding for "Use Whole Display"

Hi, I'm using X2Go Client 4.1.1.1 (Qt - 4.8.6) on Windows 10 to connect to a CentOS 7.7.1908 machine running x2goserver and x2goagent 4.1.0.3. If I start an X2Go session on the remote machine from my Windows desktop with two monitors, I can set the display to take up all of one of my displays by choosing "Display 1" or "Display 2". However, if I suspend that session, log in with my laptop and change the display layout, when I log back in on my desktop I can't restore the same single-full-screen setup without terminating the session and restarting it. Ctrl-Alt-F tries to span both monitors (which usually fails spectacularly), and Ctrl-Alt-Shift-F doesn't do anything at all (not sure if it should). I took a glance at /etc/x2go/keystrokes.cfg on the remote machine and the wiki page about keybindings, but didn't really get anywhere. Does this have something to do with the Xinerama extension? I know if I start a session on the Windows machine I have to have it enabled to get the single-full-screen option to work. Thanks, Randy

Hi, I am trying to run x2go with a macOS Mojave client and a Ubuntu 18.04 server. When trying to connect, I keep getting the following error: "Access denied. Authentication that can continue: publickey,password". It seems like this is an error other people had before, so I tried multiple things that were suggested on various feeds, but nothing helped. I tried logging in with a different user, changed the user passwords, changed the passkey of my private key, I tried all combinations of the "PasswordAuthentication","ChallengeResponseAuthentication" and "PubkeyAuthentication" settings in my sshd_config file. I checked whether the correct key is in the authorized_keys file, I checked that the .ssh directory and the authorized_key have the correct permissions. I restarted multiple times and tried changing the presettings of my connection, e.g. I tried not entering the directory for my private key, which gives me an additional error saying: "Failed to read private key:/Users/Franziska/.ssh/id_rsa". Using a normal OpenSSH client and logging on to the server via the command line works fine. I don't really know what more to try so I would be very grateful for any kind of help! Seahorse via X2Go Custom Desktop: Insufficient Priviliges

Dear X2go users and team, As it seems there is no easy solution to allow the X2Go session user have the same privileges in Ubuntu (when connecting via: connect with "Custom Desktop" Command: MATE) as a local user (i.e. via VNC) Some issues can be solved via editing settings in /var/lib/polkit-1 , for example to allow the remote user to access Network settings. However, I did not manage to allow Seahorse to show / properly work with passwords when accessed during an X2Go session: When accessing via VNC, network credentials can be edited and stored in Seahorse. With X2Go access via connect with "Custom Desktop" Command: MATE , all these sections seem to be missing in Seahorse even though the same user is used, and Caja (the file manager in Mate) seems to requests a password for SMB access every time. See attached screenshot. Help would be much appreciated. How can Seahorse get the same privileges during that X2Go session as for a local session/VNC? Thanks

Hello, I get the following error message (rarely, but when it happens its always on first time login to PC, after shutdown for a while) *Check your GSSAPI configuration or choose another authentication method.* I don't know how to actively recreate this error, and it only happens very rarely (the rest of the time it opens a session to the server and works fine) I'm not sure why it happens/what can be done to fix it. Forwardable GSSAPI / Kerberos from X2Go

I'm working with trying to use kerberos with our X2Go server from different OSs. We are running a Server 2016 Active Directory with the UNIX attributes. All computers are joined to this AD. On Windows 10, I can get GSSAPI to authenticate and let me log in without a password. However, I cannot then ssh to a different linux computer without doing a kinit. If I check "delegatation of GSSAPI Credentials to the server, I get various cp errors around files with "odd" characters, or unable to find the keyring. On other Scientific Linux 7 computers, I can't even get the Kerberos 5 authentication to work, it just gives me an error to login with my password. This does work with the first remote linux computer via ssh. I have tried enabling delegation in AD for the computer account of my primary jump host, no change I can see. So - why is X2Go different on Linux with regard to using Kerberos 5 auth when straight SSH works, and 2 has anyone figured out the windows equivalent to kinit -F for a user so they can do 2 hops? -- James Pulver CLASSE Computer Group Cornell University

Chrome speed with x2go

Hello, So many things I love about x2go over any other remote desktop solution, and I've pretty much tried them all in one flavour or another. The one thing that is really hurting me though is Chrome / webkit speed. The issue has been discussed here before a long time ago, but I didn't see much by way of resolution. This is now I suspect impacting electron based apps, which are becoming more prolific. Bouncing between my client OS and Linux isn't desirable, and in some cases isn't possible. The Linux desktop is on a 200/20Mb connection with ~20ms or less RTT, which means I get screen updates from the server -> 20Mb -> client as the server is leveraging the upload speed to communicate back to the client. I would imagine that 20Mb is sufficient to handle pretty much any of the encoding settings, so I am happy to try any settings. Server: Ubuntu MATE 18.04, installed using apt packages. (4.1.0.3 ?) Client: OSX 4.1.2.1 I'm a software developer so I am comfortable building from source, administering my own machine, so happy to experiment to try and get, if not resolution, at least a configuration that gets the best performance possible. x2go does not access seahorse's default keyring, so problems in evolution

Hello, When I log in to Fedora 30 locally, it prompts me for my keyring password on login, and I type it and then I proceed normally. I then can open evolution and it accesses my credentials fine. However, when connecting to my desktop via x2go, evolution says it failed to obtain access token, credentials, etc, and keeps prompting me for mail passwords and doesn't work. If I open seahorse, it doesn't even list my default keyring. If I use x2godesktopsharing, it works fine, but I can't do that from a laptop because it makes the display too small. Please tell me there is some way to fix this? Thanks,

Every connect from Ubuntu 18.04 client gives core dump

Hi, The setup is reasonably simple. A network with Ubuntu 18.04 PCs (workstations, so to speak). SSH connections between them work flawlessly. But x2go refuses to work. At all. Whatever I do, I only get Segmentation fault (core dumped) If I run x2goclient in the gdb debugger, it shows that it fails in Thread 6 "SshMasterConnec" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. [Switching to Thread 0x7fffdf7fe700 (LWP 5778)] 0x00007ffff7b89eeb in ?? () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssh.so.4 My first question: is anyone using x2go successfully on Ubuntu 18.04 (client and remote)? -- Kees

Hi, we use x2go for multiple users to connect to workstations running Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS. Clients run on MacOSX or Windows machines. After using the setup for some days with multiple reconnects, for unknown reasons we can no longer open terminal applications via these remote-desktops. This applies to all terminal applications like UXTerm, Xfce Terminal, XTerm, etc. We can still perfectly open a file manager, or e.g. Matlab and work with those. We can also no longer close the session because the confirmation dialog to confirm user logout does not appear. It seems like there is a terminal process started every time we start a terminal via the desktop GUI. But the window does not show up. After rebooting the workstation, everything works fine again, terminals can be opened, logout confirmation dialog pops up. Currently we use XFCE desktop. X2Go on a Plane!

Hi List, Our "X2Go: The Gathering 2019" participant Martti Pitkanen tried something out that I sadly couldn't try on my last flight with Finnair, due to some technical difficulties with the satellite uplink: Starting an X2Go Desktop Session with a server on the ground while in mid-flight! And he even managed to record a video of it! Watch this: <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlqVS60DNgQ&feature=youtu.be> The really impressive feat is that Martti is using the "browsing" internet package Finnair offers - which is marketed as "only good for Web browsing and E-Mail", rather than the more expensive "streaming" package. Finnair says they block streaming and VPN access on the "browsing" package, but - SSH works, and thus X2Go works as well. As you can see in Martti's video, the speed with which the screen gets updated is totally okay, too (especially considering that he is using Chrome Browser in the remote session, which isn't exactly fast over X2Go, even on a wired connection). This is a big advantage for Linux and X2Go compared to an RDP connection to a Windows machine - we don't need a separate VPN connection to make things safe (we can simply use 2FA via PAM, or an SSH keyfile + passphrase), so we're - allow me the pun - flying under Finnair's radar for VPN connections, and the small internet package is sufficient for X2Go. By the way, should Finnair choose to block SSH in the future, there are probably some ways around that as well. The easiest one is to switch the SSH port from 22 to 443 - if they're only blacklisting/whitelisting ports. 443 is https, and cheap firewall/proxy settings usually allow direct connections to that port without further inspection or MitM-proxying. The more complicated one would be running a web proxy on your remote machine that listens to outside connections on Port 443, but only allows CONNECT type requests to localhost on port 22 (and blocks everything else). Then you'd set up X2GoClient to use that web proxy in the session configuration. That way, the traffic should look like http/https traffic to any packet-inspecting firewall. I've been running x2go from an xubuntu laptop client to an xubuntu desktop machine successfully for a year or so. It has now stopped working with a pop-up window that says:- Access denied for 'password'. Authentication that can continue: publickey,password Access denied for 'password'. Authentication that can continue: publickey,password (yes, it is repeated like that) I have moved from xubuntu 18.04 to 19.04 (via 18.10), would this have caused the problem maybe? Whatever, how do I fix this? The error doesn't make much sense anyway as it's saying I'm not allowed to use password authentication and then it's saying I must use either publickey or password. FWIW I do use password authentication on my systems, for various reasons public key doesn't fulfil my requirements. -- Chris Green

X2go irritating System policy

Hi there Help would be much appreciated: We are running Ubuntu Mate 18.04.3 LTS. When accessing the system via VNC, everything works fine. However, when accessing via X2go and we are trying to start or stop a VPN connection, we are asked to authenticate every time (see scrennshot below). The issue does not persist when using a VNC session. Apparently the X2go session does not give me sufficient privilidge to allow "manipulate" network connections. Would anybody please be so kind to give advice regarding a workaround? I am not a Linux expert, unfortunately. Request for help on multiscreen workstation

Hi to all, i have some remote workstations (running Linux CentOs 7.5 with XFCE d.e.) with 3 or 4 screens connected to each machine. On those workstations, I have installed x2go Server following instruction and it works, but with only a problem: when I connect to one remote machine, with x2go Client from my PC (running Windows 10 Pro 64), it show me on my screen the content of ALL the screens connected to the remote machine, but very "restricted" horizontally to fit all 4 screens in my only one desktop!! So it's impossible to do anything... I'd like to know if there is a setting (of Server side, I suppose) in order to show me only the first remote screen, also if there is more than one monitor connected. x2go quits unexpectedly

Hello,Recently, the x2go client in mac started quitting unexpectedly on first try. On the second try, x2go starts, but ends up with a blank dotted screen (screenshot attached). I am using the latest (August 6, 2019) x2go server version, running mac 10.14.6. I also have the latest xquartz installed.If I start a session in a PC and then join the session from mac, it works. browser crashes on disconnect

I've been using x2go for awhile now, years. Recently I rebuilt my server and moved the drives around. I used to be able to leave a session running with firefox or chrome, but everytime I disconnect now Firefox and chrome die. Other programs, for example konsole and qbittorrent don't, just browsers. I've looked in my journelctl and I don't see anything. Any ideas? I'm on Opensuse 15. Paul Borowicz

x2go and signed certificates p2

Hello, I am working on establishing a connection between an Ubuntu client and Centos server with x2go server on it for a connection with signed certificates. (My x2go server currently uses asymmetric encryption and works as intended but requires manual placement of keys between clients and hosts, which is tedious). So I setup a CA and configured signed certificates to work with ssh-agent because I see x2go supports ssh-agent. When I used ssh agent to take in the private key and signed certificate (see commands below), I can ssh to the x2go server using the certificate and private key via command line, but I can't seem to get x2go application to open a display when ticking the (use ssh agent box). I tried to specify the private key or certificate in the "Use RSA/DSA key for ssh connection box" and private key and certificate together and authentication to the server via x2go was not even attempted as the (secure log was empty). Signed certificates are a common and very secure method of authentication, and x2go needs to support this does it already support it and there is something major I might have missed? (To authenticate to x2go server via terminal) with ssh agent I do: ssh username@ip_address without ssh agent I do: ssh -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa-cert.pub -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa username@ip_address

keymapping changes everytime x2goserver restarts

I reported some time ago that on my setup: fedora 30 client fedora 30 server Everytime the server restarts and I establish a new session, I need to toggle the setting of 'configure keyboard'. I have on the client remapped capsLock -> Ctrl. Unless I toggle the setting from the setting I used the previous time the mapping is not working. So if I'm using autoconfigure keyboard the next time the server reboots and I start a new session (I only start a new session on reboot), I'll need to set don't configure keyboard Any ideas? Neal

Hello, just wondering if X2GO has capabilities to work with signed certificates. I am currently using x2go to connect to a centos 6.1 server with essentially an interface to mysql. The connection is done through public and private keys, with authorised key file(public key) on the users home directory on the server. I want to switch to signed certificates, will x2go support this? I use vault by hashicorp to sign my certificate after public key is sent to it, then I authenticate using private key and signed certificate to the host. The command is: ssh -i signed-cert -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa username@ip_address

Hi Uli, sorry for the long delay. Thank you so much for the research, yes, the compression details that you mentioned and how to set the connection speed makes complete sense. The tiling is something that i have noticed. I have been able to reduce the bandwidth requirements very much, it does not look pretty (which is to be expected) BUT it does work. I wonder how I could put this documentation on the x2go documentation site, so it would be avialable to everybody. The idea would be that if somebody looks for this, they can find it.
