Howdy all, So I would love to be able to use x2go on my sles11 boxes that are running on my mainframe, but I have found NO good info about how to install it, let alone configure it and get it to run. I have downloaded what appears to be some "source code", but within the .tar ball there is no install instructions, just a bunch of scripts. Then when I got and look online using google looking for help, again there is NO documentation describing how to install x2go manually, only from using a .deb. Well, I don't have nor will I ever use .deb for my enterprise environment, so how in the world do you install x2go using the "source" code that I downloaded from your website? Is there any documentation that say what these commands do? How does x2go connect and talk with the DB, the client? Is there a service I must run on the server in order to connect to it? What about the gnomebindings? Are those available to only .deb users? Can I install those without using .deb? Do I need them? Is there any documentation that does not include using .debs? What about man pages? Do they exist? All I want is some install instructions to follow, or at least some pointers in the correct direction... Linux is not new to me in any way, I just have no idea how x2go works and functions as a whole and I can't find anything that is useful to help answer these questions. I really wish there was some sort of documentation that describes how to do this simple procedure. I don't understand why a small file wasn't included in the "source" that tells me how to do this as there is with EVERY OTHER "source" that I have ever downloaded, or if it's not included with the source you can use the normal, ./configure, make, make install, and get it up and running. This is the first time I have ever had trouble installing something from supposed "source", so I am a little bit frustrated at the total lack of documentation and info that is available on actually installing the product if you can't, nor want to run a distro that supports/uses .debs. Ubuntu and Debian are not support under system z (which is what I am running), so therefore I can't use them even if I wanted to. RHEL6 and SLES11 are my only options if I want support, which my organization requires me to have if I am going to be running anything in a production environment, which is the plan. What I have done in the meantime is follow some "install" instructions that were included in the older version of x2goserver (3.0.1), but that doesn't seem right. I have even installed and configured postgresql (there were absolutely no instructions on using the x2goserver-one source, so I had to go with just x2goserver and install postgresql which is completely unnecessary but I had no other choice considering the lack of info available), but when I try to connect to my server using the x2goclient, I get "authentication denied continue using keyboard interactive" or something like that, and then x2goclient crashes and I am not logged into my server, and there are no message logs on the server, nor any error logs, and there is nothing on the windows computer to help me out either. So I have no idea what is or is not working correctly. I know ssh works, and x11 forwarding works because I have some scripts I created to connect and forward the x sessions, and they work just fine. I really want to be able to use x2go instead of my own scripts because of the sessions resume and cool things like that. But I do know that x and ssh work, I just can't connect using x2go. So at this point I am really disappointed in x2go as I have spent a good 4 hours now trying to just install this product, and I haven't even started to try to configure it. Honestly I will give it a little bit more time, after that I must move on to something else that actually has some documentation so I can figure this stuff out on my own since I don't have time to be wasting on just trying to install a product. I don't want to come across as an ass here, I am just frustrated with spinning my wheels on something that should be really straight forward. X2go looks like would be perfect for what I need, I just hope I can get it installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time, Donald Harris

x2goclient as normal user fail

Hello, I was hoping to jump from freeNX to x2go remote desktop for my Arch and Ubuntu based machines. But I have some problems connecting to x2go service as normal user. For a test drive I have installed x2goserver-one on Arch based server, and x2goclient on my Arch notebook. The server is working fine as I can ssh to it without any problems. I can even connect to x2goserver when the client is run with root priviliges (sudo x2goclient). Unfortunately running x2goclient and trying to connect to server with my normal priviliges (of course with same session configuration as from root) fails: - main x2goclient window does show connecting status after giving login creditials, and all buttons are greyed out - the remote desktop window does not show up at all On both occasions I'm connectiong with same creditials. I'm not using any userdefined configuration files, so both root and my user share same ssh configuration. On console the only difference is that on root account there is line saying that nxproxy is starting, which is not showing on normal account. If any detailed information is needed, just let me know how to get it and I'm going to send it to You. I really hope that we can solve this strange problem together. _________ BR Zbyszek

Hi Mailinglist I am right now trying to get the Thinclient system running I have to problems: 1) Can't get my Keyboard layout set right, but that's minor. I have no LDAP or anything, and I do not want to go there, too overkill :) how can I get it to be gnome? the x2gothinclientsystem bash script creates KDE folders, but no gnome folders! than you for your help here! so again the scenario is: - 10.4.0.7 = x2goserver session works standalone 10.4.0.196(via DHCP) the thin client boots and shows the x2goclient CONFIGURATION dialog. so I am quite far! Session switching (NX'ing and PXE booting transparency?)

When I logon with and x2go client (NX connect), and I'm already logged on to the system with x2go it pops up the session management box and asks if I want to start a new session or resume my old one. I love this. I'm wondering if I pxe boot with x2go (something I don't know how to do yet) if it will ask me to resume a session I already have open also? To re-iterate, I'm wondering if I can x2go (NX connect) from home and resume a session; as well as be at work and x2go (PXE boot) and resume that same session? My apologies if I sound like an idiot for asking this question. -Andy

scrolling in OpenOffice word processor or spreadsheet

When I scroll down in an OpenOffice word processor or spreadsheet the rest of the document doesn't scroll. I'm assuming x2go is glitching. I can relieve the problem by highlighting the text, and see where I'm at in the document. How do I go about fixing this? I expect this will happen to other people who might not be as patient as I am when it does happen. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and installed from the x2go deb repository. -Andy

Flash animation brings x2go to a near halt

Here's a cool flash animation about size of things in the universe: http://primaxstudio.com/stuff/scale_of_universe/ If I run it on my Ubuntu linux box with the latest firefox browser and flash plugin, it works fine. But if I access the browser on my linux box with x2go-client from a windows machine, the flash animation brings x2go nearly to a freeze. It does eventually respond, but it takes tens of seconds. The animation is totally unusable. I am barely able to close the browser window to get things back to normal (click on the X and then wait 30 seconds for the browser window to close). Has anyone else seen this behavior?

New user -- Server not responding

When installing the x2go client on the Windows box we retained the existing CYGWIN installation. This installation is rather old - perhaps it is not consistent with the expectations of the x2go app(?) The session does in fact load - but the response times are very slow -- The app initially reports "Not Responding" but sometimes it will generate meaningful menus / responses. Can someone help us figure this out?

Unknown user and group when mounting shared folder

When I mount a shared folder with X2go client for Windows, the new files created doesn't correspond to the SSH user. Instead, they get this owner user and group: 1003:513 Thanks

Wrong path with "Create session icon on desktop..." in Windows

When using "Create session icon on desktop...", a new icon appears, but in the path, the "bin" folder is not necesary: %PROGRAMFILES%\x2goclient\bin\x2goclient.exe I'm using "X2Go client 3.01-4" for Windows. -- Aron

Mounting in a specified path

Hello, I'm a new using X2go. It's great! When I want to mount a Windows folder in a X2go session, the mount point is located in: /tmp/info_media/... I would like to specify the mount point path in the server from the X2go client. In my case, the folder in the server is: /home/my_user/.bulmages X2go it's great! -- Aron

Keyboard layouts problem on Ubuntu 10.10

Hello list, I'm researching about renewing existing Freenx-based infrastructure and I'm playing with x2go as alternative. Using Lenny's packages on ubuntu 10.10 there is a problem with keyboard layout indicator. Switching between layouts actually works but indicator on the panel shows an error icon, not country letters for the current layout. When I try to 'restore defaults' in the kbd- layout's settings, it throws some kind of generic error dialog with Xorg version and what to attach as debug info, etc. Tested with freenx and neatx, layout switching does not work at all, but there is no error indicated. With locally started X session everything is OK. Digging in, I've found that x2goagent (like nxagent from freenx-team) are build against xorg 6.9.0 and the current X in ubuntu is 7.5. Is it possible this older version to cause this problems and what about compiling whith newer xorg? What else can I do for debug? Can anyone confirm this problem? Thanks.

Hi! I'm a heavy x2go user but, my last setups are failing and I don't know how to solve the problem by myself... I have two system with the same error... 1 Maverick and 1 Lucid, both 32 bits. I read the wiki pages: http://wiki.x2go.org/adding_the_x2go_repository_debian and: http://wiki.x2go.org/installing_x2goserver-home_ubuntu The installations works fine: root@maverick01:~# dpkg -l | grep -i x2go ii nxcompshad 3.4.0-1-1 nx based library needed by the x2go system ii x2goagent 3.4.0-3-1 Special NX-ized client, was developed by NoMachine to handle X sessions ii x2goserver 3.0.1-5 x2goserver (daemon and tools) ii x2goserver-one 3.0.1-1 x2goserver-one (One Node Edition - for single server usage) But when I try to connect to it from another desktop, I see the following error: Connection failed maverick01: cat: /home/administrativo/.x2go/C-administrativo-50-1287693745_stDGNOME_dp24/cmdoutput: No such file or directory I already try to change the "Desktop session" from GNOME to "Custon session" and type "exec gnome-session" there but, no success... Session limitations

Hi, Does anyone no if there is any session limitations as to how many x2go sessions you can run at the same time? It seems as with local users (created in the ubuntu box) we can open as many sessions as we want. But with windows AD integrated users, we are only allowed to open two sessions. If we try to open a third, we get the message: "The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session...." I read somewhere that the NX server free edition is limited to 2 sessions.. is that why? Benjamin

Thanks for your posts - and yes! I understand you :) This is not a priority project, but I'm working on it form time to time. Tried now without using likewise-open as you said, but instead krb5, samba, and winbind... and it works fine. Now sound is through, and authenthication is working fine with just username I still cannot mount folders yet, nor with local user login or with windows users. I get a popup screen saying: Could not display "home/domain/user..etc(sshfs-disk)". The file is of an unknown type Maybe I need to add something in smb.conf or nsswitch.conf ?? Starting multiple sessions

I have installed the x2goserver-home package on my linux server. Now I want to open multiple session windows to my server from my x2go client. I created two session profiles to my server, with the only difference being one of them is named "server1" and the other is named "server2". So, I open a session to server1, and then I try to click on the icon for server2, but nothing happens. Am I missing something? The only way I was able to open a second session was to run another instance of the x2go client, and then click on the server2 icon. Is this expected behavior? That I can only open 1 session per x2go client instance?

x2go integration with windows domain

Hi, We have been trying to setup x2go in a windows environment. We want to use Ubuntu as our terminal server for internet surfing. The idea is that users log on to their TS session with their windows credentials. We use likewise-open to join ubuntu to the windows network. We have added the AD (active directory) group of users having permission to use the TS to the sudoers file like: (Under the x2go section) $DOMAIN\\group ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/x2gopgwrapper We are using the windows client version 3.01-4. Basically it works but we have two errors: 1. No sound 2. Mount folder fails with the error: .. Could not find "/temp/DOMAINuser_media/folder" Please check the spelling Please note the missing / between DOMAIN and user In the client version 3.01-2, there was an option in the sound section to deselect the default port, if we did that, we had sound through. But that option is not available in the 3.01-4 version. We have a firewall between the two networks, and have opened up tcp port 22 for ssh Any ideas how to get this fully working? Connect to X2go behind NAT

Hello, What would be a good way to connect to a whole bunch of machines behind NAT? Till now, I made a special port-forwarding in the firewall for every machine, but this is a lot of work. I would prefer to connect to some kind of gateway-machine what gives me access to the local network. With tightVNC I could use the "-via" command: vncviewer -via root(a)acrobaat.xs4all.nl ooievaartje Some idears how I could do something like this with X2go? Hey all, I am trying to set up x2goserver multi node on debian. For that I followed the documentation in the wiki and used the debian lenny repository only. I noticed that using the samba scheme was NOT optional: ./genconf wants to have the arguments for samba anyway and the generated ldap setup also employs samba. Commenting out the include in /etc/ldap/slapd.conf didn't help because the samba parts are already in the database. So installing the samba scheme is mandatory (unless you want to set up LDAP yourself). What I have running now are 2 machines: One has LDAP and PostgreSQL, the other does not, but uses the servers on the first one. I can use both as normal (separate) X2Go Terminalservers (with the same users, thanks to LDAP), that stuff works. What I don't see is any hint about the promised Load Balancing. I hope(d) that the Client connects to always one IP and is then told to in fact use one of the two servers, but that is not happening. What is needed to get the Load Balancing feature working? Both servers have been added with ldap.addserver. Regards, -- .''`. Debian repository - lastest stable release?

Hi x2go folks, where can I find the latest stable x2go release in the 2xgo Debian repository? http://www.x2go.org/index.php?id=7 claims the "most recenty release" Uthörn to be described as pool-lenny but also "maemo" as distributions "diablo" that should be added to apt's sources.list. Looking at the repository itself we have diablo (no idea), heuler (somewhere refered to as prerelease), lenny, etch (both Debian releases) and ubuntu (a Debian based distribution)... http://x2go.obviously-nice.de/deb/dists/ I'm really confused about releases, repositories and the naming scheme at all.
