x2goclient (thinclient) crashing

Hello, I use the x2gothinclients and have the following problem: every so often (and more often since the latest update) when trying to resume a session, I get an error message "The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session. This may be due to the wrong authentication credentials passed to the server". If I close the message box, I get a black screen, with the shutdown icon in the upper left corner. At that point, the x2goclient process has died. The only way to continue is to switch to a different screen (CTRL+ALT+F1) and restart x2gothinclient. I can try logging in several time and will get this problem several times in a row. Then after a while, it will work. Of course I am completely sure that the credentials were correct. Which logs should I be looking at to troubleshoot this server? I couldn't find any logs on the client machine (maybe I'm not looking in the right place). Jean

Hello x2go people :) i have a server running Ubuntu 11.10 with an x2goserver installation, version 3.0.99.10-0~434~oneiric1, and it is running well and stable. We had some strange problems, though. We contacted a school, who would help us test the server under daily use, and made some test users for them, called "test-*their name*". When they, and i, tried to log into those users, the client would freeze, no error message or anything. On the server, the x2goagent would run amok, soaking up CPU power. I wanted to make a suggestion to the x2go Community. Everyone knows how fast and how much x2go has been changing in regards to features, capabilities, etc. Like most projects Documentation is hard to keep up with but to keep growing the x2go Community as fast in the future as it has in the past year or so I'd like to suggest the date for a week of focused x2go Wiki updating/cleanup. For success - it would take the commitment of both the x2go Community & the Core-Devs and some planning. Problem with X2Go and VMWare Tools

Hi. I've been troubleshooting a weird problem with X2Go for a while, when connecting to Gnome sessions in virtual machines the top and bottom panels are displayed but the desktop/background never shows up and the mouse pointer never stops spinning. It's like the Gnome session startup reaches 99% and then just waits forever for something. It turns out it's related to VMWare Tools. I use VMWare Hypervisor (ESXi) 5, I can't say if the problem started when I upgraded from ESXi 4 to 5, but it's fairly recent. I discovered that there are two instances of vmtoolsd running, the process list looks something like this when the X2Go session reaches "wait forever" state: root@labblinux:~# ps auxw | grep vmware dali 12906 1.4 1.4 174604 14588 ? Starting a Gnome session locally on the virtual machine console successfully finishes. I've tried using xrdp instead of X2Go and had no problems starting sessions, both using X11rdp and X11vnc on the server side. There's only one vmtoolsd running unless it's a X2Go session. I've unsuccessfully tried to figure out what the root cause is. It seems related to X2Go login/startup, somehow vmtoolsd starts twice and there's a conflict blocking Gnome startup. I did however find a workaround; uninstall VMWare Tools and install the open-vm-tools package from the Debian repository (contrib has to be added). No problems with X2Go so far and VMWare seems happy with the open source tools (Shutdown/Restart Guest is available in vSphere Client). I posted this to both x2go-user and x2go-dev for informational purposes. Maybe a wiki page would be the best place for this info? The wiki is however in a sad state and needs some serious cleanup. I personally don't think the template used is aesthetically pleasing and would prefer the default template or Arctic template which I've used extensively in all my DokuWiki installs. Cheers, Daniel

x2goagent listening on public interface - how to make it listen on 127.0.0.1 only?

Hi, I am testing x2go - looks like a very good alterative to other solutions! However, I see that (only) when I am logged in via x2goclient I have an x2goagent process listening on all network interfaces on port 6050 - I would feel better if this software did only listen on 127.0.0.1, if this is technically possible. I did not found any hint on a "listen 127.0.0.1" configuration item and where to put it, if existing - how can I make x2goagent NOT listen on a public network interface? I haven't been able to figure out why my updated x2go is failing to allow ssh login and start of my x2go session. But I have figured out a workaround but it makes the question of what the real problem is even stranger ? *The workaround was to setup SSH Login Without Password Using ssh-keygen & ssh-copy-id* For those that haven't done it before an easy/simple explanation of what you have to do is found here: http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2008/11/3-steps-to-perform-ssh-login-without-pa… for Ubuntu the instructions are here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SSH/OpenSSH/Keys After doing this from your "client" system start the x2goclient and: 1. create a new session 2. select "*session preferences*" from the drop-down menu on your "new session" launcher icon 3. check mark "*Try auto login (ssh-agent or default ssh key)*" option 4. enter your Host address/dns name 5. enter your login name 6. click OK to save 7. Click on the session Launcher ICON and now it should just autoconnect to your remote server with ssh and start your x2go session successfully Now as to why the new x2goclient was failing and giving that message before when the only difference is whether or not auto-login was used or x2go's ssh key exchange ... I don't know. I have tried much to get rit of this problem, but with no success. Interesting is that I can use pyhoca-gui without problems where X2goclient failes. But the last time I've tried this I had a problem with Pyhoca-gui: the keyboard did not work fine over the session. It did work, but often there where key-presses missing. Over another direct SSH connection typing was no problem. updated x2go on my ubuntu 11.10 system and it now fails

Had an older version of x2go working. Updated x2go client on my home PC Using Ubuntu 11.10 64bit for x2goserver Installed x2goserver as usual >From my client (also Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit)... I try to connect and get the message about accepting a server connection not seen before and I answer - yes. I then get the x2goclient window to provide my password and I do so. It comes back immediately with this message? *Access denied. Authentication that can continue: publickey,keyboard-interactive* I've not seen that before but anyone got an idea what's causing it? sshd_config on the server is configured to allow password logins AND if I use SSH I can connect from my local machine to the remote server OK. So its not an SSH problem. I then tried my work laptop which still has the older version of x2go and it DOES connect ok. Something is broken now on my home PC. I purged the x2goclient from my home machine just in case but I still have the same problem. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot or a log to look at I'd appreciate any tips. thanks brian

Shared desktop

I have sucessfully install x2go on ubuntu 11.10, and x2goclient on windows... I have sucessfully connect with "custom" and gnome-session-fallback I have succesfully connect with "desktop shared" and fullcontrol and I have the following problems... 1. Mouse dont apear. This is the most anoying 2. Other resolution diferent than fullscreen fails. 3. suspend and terminate button dont works Please can anybody helpme mainly with mouse problem? Thanks... What is the tecnicallity used for desktop sharing? RFB-VNC?. I cant see any x11vnc session as freenx do... NOTE. x2goclient doesnt support http proxy connections so I had to make a sshtunnel with putty, and then a x2go session inside (with 2 level of tunnelling ), Could be great to have proxy connection support as nomachine client.... Thanks a lot for this great project.

X2Go client windows switching problems

Hello all, Long time user of NX related programs for some time now. Mostly freenx, which has been driving me crazy lately. I am a staunch Debian user and feel that it's unlikely that freenx will ever enter main there. Hence my want to switch to X2Go. I've been following and trying to get this working for me too long now. The largest hurdle that is stopping me now is the inability to switch windows properly when using the windows X2Go client. I keep a long running session open on a remote box and prefer to keep most of my work there. The problem is that I also have a need to switch back to my local desktop often. Typically I do this with the "magic" pixel or Alt + Tab. I'm also perhaps quirky in that I want my remote session to be full screen not windowed. I do not experience this problem from a Linux laptop with X2Go or PyHoca-Gui. I can switch windows, suspend, resume, et. al. just dandy! My problem is with the M$ side of course. Starting the session is fine, even resuming one started elsewhere. When I switch back to another program though I can't get back to my session properly. Either I will see part of my desktop (KDE if it matters) and the last program I was using in windows will be covering the rest. Sometimes if I minimize that program I will get my remote session back, not often though. Typically what happens is I will get a small rectangle toward the upper left of my windows desktop. It may or may not have the minimize, restore, close widget displayed with it. When this happens the only way back to my remote session is to close the client and reconnect. This does work, far too painful to deal with. Seems that I have just been babbling here. If I can describe it some other way, post logs, config, whatever I am willing to do that. A quick kick in the right direction would be appreciated. Server logs show nothing at any debug level that I see. Any help is greatly appreciated. Mike

Sound issues in new release

Dear all, I hope this is the right place for my problem as I have started with x2go only e few weeks ago and could not find many resources. I did a test two weeks ago and sound was working well. Now I made a new installation and encountered two problems compared to my last installation: - when I login remotely there is now start-sound - when I use flash (e.g. browser) I can only hear sound in the left speaker. My client is a WinXP and the server is running ubuntu 11.10 in a virtual box. In my first test (two weeks ago) I heard the start-sound when I logged in remotely. I am not quite sure about stereo but I think both channels worked also. Now I made a fresh install of x2go on the server today and faced the problems mentioned above. I made an upgrade on the client from 3.99.0.3 to 3.99.0.4 with no changes, the problems persist. Did I miss something? Any help is appreciated. Frank

Problem Using Cloned Accounts

Hi All: We're trying to see if we can get x2go to work on cloned accounts or ones we create via bash on an Ubuntu server. FYI - we can start x2go sessions successfully if we create a new user "the normal way" (i.e., by hand using the GUI), create the SSH keys and move them between client (windows) and server. When we try, however, to create a new user account on the server "programmatically" (either brand new or cloned), we consistently get an error which happens regardless of the technique we use. As best we can tell, the cloned or programmatically created accounts function fine and as we'd expect except when we try to connect via x2go. For example, as root we create an account with "useradd - d /home/<newusername> -m --skel /etc/skel <newusername> (we've also tried to use the same command but clone an account that works with x2go, and have tried a range of other bash "create/clone" code). The connection is made, we see the black screen with "X2GO" and then the screen goes black and stays that way. Is this the same problem we've seen on some of the "black screen" posts? When we quit, we get an error message: Connection failed head: cannot open /home/<username>/.x2go/C-XXXXXXXXXXX_stDGNOME-dp32/cmdoutput' for reading: No such file or directory sed: -e expression #1, char 4: unterminated 's' command cat: >From reading the error message, it looks like somehow a "cmdoutput" file or folder is missing which we don't fine on the working account, so maybe it's written out on the fly. Is this a permissions issue? We think we are doing everything "identically" with the exception of how we are creating the account (e.g., how we create the ssh keys, copy the id_dsa.pub in authorized keys, add the new user to sshd_config, restart ssh). We've tried comparing the permissions in the two accounts, but are not sure if that is even the issue. We've checked in our user settings via the GUI and none of the users we've added --either programmatically or through the GUI--are checked in the x2go group though all are listed there and it doesn't seem to matter if we check them. When we create a new user/account "programmatically", would this cause problems with the x2go set up for that account? Any help appreciated! Ted

Using x2go with on Ubuntu Server with Encrypted Home Folders

Hi All: We are trying to use x2go connected to a Ubuntu server "desktop user" account where we have encrypted the Home folder for that user. We can connect just fine, though we go through a couple of error screens we get to one where we can enter a password. We enter the user password and get in just fine. Q: is there a way to get directly to that log in screen and/or store the password locally so we can use the icon on the desktop feature? - There is an option/checkbox to "Try auto login (ssh-agent or default ssh key)" but we think that's not the answer. - Given that we can log in, we assume this isn't about using ssh keys with passwords, that the password in question is the user account/login one that is related to the encrypted Home folder. We searched through the user and dev archives, and apologize if this is already answered. Thanks!

Dear all, The X2Go Project it proud to announce a couple of new X2Go component releases: - x2goserver (3.0.99.10) - x2goclient (3.99.0.6) - x2gothinclient (1.0.1.5) - nx-libs incl. x2goagent (3.5.0.9) All new packages will be available in our stable repositories (Debian, Ubuntu) within the next 24h. The windows version of x2goclient will probably be available tomorrow, as well. For x2goserver and x2goclient these releases will be the last releases in the 3.0.99.x series (x2goserver) and 3.99.0.x series (x2goclient). Today Oleksandr Shneyder has found a conceptual bug in the X2Go session hand shake that now is already fixed in the latest development code. To denote this change in session handshake protocol, minor version numbers will be raised for the next releases of those projects: - x2goserver, next release will be 3.1.0.0 - x2goclient, next release will be 3.99.1.0 Older clients will be fully compatible with newer servers (and vice versa). The fix addresses a session resume failure that occurred every once in a while (quite rare, but annoying). Hello X2Go users, I want to describe some changes we made in X2Go recently. == Multi display support features. == There are two new features in X2Go to support desktops with more then one physical display. 1. Run X2Go Session in "full screen" mode on one of several physical displays. With this feature you can use one of your physical monitors to display X2Go session in "full screen" mode. On this photo you can see a Windows 7 notebook with a connected VGA monitor running X2Go Session on display 2: http://www.x2go.org/_media/news:two_sess.png You can configure this feature using Session Preferences dialog in X2Go client: http://www.x2go.org/_media/news:multidisp_set.png Push "Identify all displays" button to find out the numbers of a physical displays: http://www.x2go.org/_media/news:ident_dsip.png 2. Using two or more physical displays as one large virtual display (Xinerama) The advantage of Xinerama feature is to only maximize windows to the dimensions of the active physical display. This can be very useful not only for thinclients with more then one physical displays, but also if user stretch their X2Go sessions over more then one display in "window" mode. X2Go Session running 3 maximized LibreOffice windows is stretched over 3 physical displays: http://www.x2go.org/_media/news:xinerama.png Xinerama configuration of X2Go session will be automatically updated every time when user moving or resizing his X2Go Session window. ==Verifying if port is free before resuming X2Go Session == On start of an X2Go session 3 tcp ports for ssh tunnels (graphic, sound, sshfs) are reserved. The values of these ports are stored in the X2Go session database and used by X2Go clients every time an X2Go session gets resumed. Sometimes it can happen that one of these ports is already used by another application after the session had been suspended. As result, X2Go client will be unable to resume such session or start sound or sshfs tunnel. To avoid this problem X2Go server (>= 3.1.0.0) will verify if these ports are still unused before the session will be resumed. In other case new ports will be reserved. The new port values will be updated in database and sent to the X2Go client. IMPORTANT: Older versions of X2Go client will be compatible with newest X2Go servers. If ports have changed between suspend and resume of a session, older x2goclients will try to reconnect and fail.
