Hi, I am new to X2go... I'm trying to make a connection to a pure CentOS on VMware cloud from Windows. I'm impressed by the settings in the session manager but actually couldn't make the two big things I like the most to work: 1. File sharing 2. Client side printing support I tried sshfs with dokan successfully, so that's not the problem. My X2go client was downloaded today from x2go.org (latest_mswin-setup). Any ideas what to could I miss at the server, what on the client side... or what kind of other information should I write out (and probably it will do me good if the how to is included then too). x2gobroker: war of passwords

Hi, I am running x2gobroker with SSH proxy and right now users have to type: 1) broker username and password 2) desktop and username and password 3) proxy password A lot of typing for just a simple desktop connection! I've learned I can use ssh key autologin somehow (didnt try yet) so step 2 will be gone. Is there a way to have x2goclient reuse the broker password for the proxy connection or something else to remove the ssh proxy authentication without distributing private keys to the users? cheers Mathias

Mounting USB sticks and CD-ROMs on thin clients, sound

Hello, I am trying to set up an x2go server with thin clients (debian wheezy). For the most part, the clients are working fine - the boot time and speed is astonishing even with the low-power server hardware I need to use. Alas, there are a few important things I cannot get to work after days of googling and tinkering: 1) mounting local drives on the thin clients - When I insert a cd-rom, a little eject button appears in the lower right corner of the screen. However, I cannot see the files on the disc in /home/<user>/media/cd - When I insert a FAT formatted USB stick, nothing (visible) happens. Only in the local console can I see that a device has been attached, but nothing is mounted, and nothing shows up in /home/<user>/media/disk The x2gousbmount and x2gocdmanager are installed in the chroot, and <user> was added to the fuse group. Are there other prerequisite packages on the server that I could have missed? 2) Sound on the thin clients doesn't work - upon PXE boot, the sound card seems to be correctly detected; I checked alsamixer. Pulse connects correctly via TCP, but pactl lists no sound card. It seems that module-udev-detect fails to detect the sound card. I don't know how to get debug output because I cannot find where the actual command line (pulseaudio -D -n -L module-native-protocol-tcp [...] ) is generated in the chroot to add more debug output PulseAudio Manager reports "Default Sink: not set"; "Default Source: not set". Those issues are real showstoppers for a project I am trying to set up in Africa next week - I'd be really thankful for hints on how to solve them. Peter

no menu with gnome fallback

Hi all, A new install of ubuntu 12.04, all updated. Installed latest all dependencies, x2goserver and x2goserver-xsession Have multiple users so I am trying to set gnome fallback as the default desktop globally by modifying etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf Have this in there now : [SeatDefaults] #greeter-session=unity-greeter #user-session=gnome-fallback gnome-session --session=gnome-fallback The "greeter" line is a mystery to me? I've run it and commented it out. Doesn't seem to make a difference that I have noticed. Basically the gnome classic desktop loads but no menu or task bar. In the client I'm using custom desktop option with "gnome-session --session=gnome-fallback" and also gnome-session --session=gnome-session-fallback" I've got the screen size of the client set to 600X800. One odd behavior I noticed is that when the session is loading the window is, indeed, 600X800 but by the time it has fully loaded it has gone completely full screen. I tried lowering the resolution, which keeps it going to full screen, but there are still no top or bottom toolbars. I'm running Windows 8 on a Toshiba 64 bit laptop. OS X and proxy server option - can't connect

Hi All: I am using the proxy server option on x2go, and have gotten it to work on Windows and Debian, but not OS X and hope to get some help. In my tests: - I use the same server, same ssh keys etc. and connect from Windows and Linux (Squeeze) - from a command prompt on OS X, I can connect by issuing: ssh -X -A -t externaluser@externalIP ssh -A -X internaluser@internalIP - bash is the default shell on my Mac - however, when we try to connect via the x2go GUI, it gets stuck saying "Connecting" and goes no further until I close the session (for what it's worth, it's not a "forced quit" so I don't think the session has crashed, just won't connect). FYI - on linux, on the "client", I issue the following before trying to connect the first time on both keys and have tried this on OS X as well with "no joy": NewUserVar=newuser PathVar=/home/newuser/.ssh/newuserfolder chmod go-w /home/$NewUserVar chmod 700 /home/$NewUserVar/.ssh chmod 600 $PathVar/id_rsa ssh-add $PathVar/id_rsa Any suggestions? connection problem on Ubuntu 12.04

Hi all, I have a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 where I installed x2go server. I have a laptop running Lubuntu 12.04 where I installed the client. I can ping the server from the client but cannot connect. The only error message I get is "Connection refused". I've re-installed both server and client a couple of times now. Help please! Big screen problem

Dear x2go-user, I bought a big 2560x1440 screen (big in my world). Remote system have a 1920x1200 screen. I tried to go full screen but noticed that I can't change the remote desktop resolution to more than 1920x1200. So I can't really go full screen. Is there something I haven't noticed? Where does that limit come from? Is it really the size of the remote physical screen or just coincidentally the same geometry? Now, that I'm practically forced to work in a window, I'm really missing a feature like there is in VirtualBox: You can grab mouse and keyboard into the virtual desktop. I'm mostly missing ALT-TAB functionality inside the remote desktop window. I wish that some day someone have the time and interest to code such a feature. Despite of those little annoyances X2Go have served me very nicely quite a long time now - thanks. -- Timo

No RHEL5 x2goclient?

Since I can't install the x2goserver on RHEL5, I was hoping to at least install a client that will get some users to RHEL6/Ubuntu machines. When I try to yum install x2goclient I get a message that no x2goclient package exists. Sure enough when I browse the repo, there is no x2goclient package. I can't even install pyhoca-gui because it needs things from x2goclient (per the README at least). Anyone have any alternatives? -Kermit Short

And I would definitely buy it for 1 or 2 dollars, it would be well worth it. My Gingerbread (2.3) Ice cream Sandwich (4.0) and Jelly Bean (4.2) Android all supported plugging in a mouse and keyboard via USB connector, it just treats it as HID, and simulates it, so you can use the cursor keys to more from app icon to app icon or ESC to go back, as well as getting a mouse pointer to click on stuff. I was amazed how dynamic this works. Anyway, for the short term, the webserver solution should work easier. Regards, Markus

I did some further testing, and the resume failures are indeed due to missing AFS tokens. When suspending a session, the SSH connection is closed, sshd will call pam_close_session(), which means that pam_krb5 and pam_afs_session will delete the user's ticket/token (resp.). The session therefore loses access to the home directory and appears to freeze up, preventing it from being resumed. Both pam_krb5 and pam_afs_session accept retain_after_close as a parameter, which disables the delete-on-close behavior. With this parameter set, it becomes possible to resume sessions, unless the AFS token has expired. This solves at least the case where the user reconnects quickly (eg. after a short network outage), but it still means sessions will become unresumable when left unused for a few days. I guess the only way to avoid this is to not store session data in the home directory. Can X2go be configured such that it uses eg. /tmp or /var/lib for this purpose?

Mac OS X 10.8.3 x2goclient 4.0.1.x session keyboard input issue

Hi, I am running the latest x2goclient (4.0.1.x) for Mac OS X (10.8.3) and have noticed an unusual problem relating to keyboard input when starting a configured session for the second time. The first time a session is started, the username and password can be typed but when you exit the session then launch it again (without exiting x2goclient) keyboard keystrokes do not appear in the username and password fields. If you exit x2goclient then start it again it works but only once. In case it helps, I noticed I can paste text into the field. Has anyone else observed this? I have tried using the latest stable release of the X server, XQuartx 2.7.4 and the latest beta release 2.7.5_rc2 with the same results. I did not want to lodge a bug report yet in case it was something particular to my installation or setup. Hi, I was wondering whether it is possible to implement two factor authentication in X2go? Ie. ssh password based login with the Google two factor authentication Linux PAM module and Google Authenticator App for iOS or Android. Would this be any more secure than using ssh private/public keys? Smart Card Forwarding

Hello, I am looking for a solution to provide secure authentication / mail signing etc on a central place, so I researched the actual available OS-Solutions for this task. I have a smart card reader built into the client which I want to use for: - authentication at the Terminal Server - "taking" my smart card with me to authenticate at further destinations (connection is initiated at the Terminal Server). What I found out is, that the upcoming version of nx can do such a thing and the commercial solutions offer also this functionality (Windows only, Citrix, Oracle SDG …) Is it possible with x2go to forward the smart card (reader) to the terminal server in a secure way to use it for further actions? If yes: What do I need for this? Regards Markus

x2goclient on Windows crashes

Hello, We are trying to run a Java program from x2goclient on Windows in application mode. Using version 4.0.0.3 in Windows XP, x2goclient crashes everytime with the following message: "vcxsrv.exe encountered a problem and needs to close." Using version 4.0.0.3 in Windows 7, it works without any problem. Using the preview version (4.0.1.0-pre02) on Windows XP it works properly most of the time, but sometimes crashes too. Any idea ? Possible problem with printing & newer versions of Adobe Acrobat

Hi All: Has anyone had trouble printing with the newer versions of Adobe acrobat (e.g., "X") with the following symptoms: - connect up to server over ssh from windows (x2go version 4.0.0.3) - open a document from the x2go session and print - on the client, Adobe flashes briefly (if check "Show this dialog before start printing", get the dialog box) - nothing comes out the printer (have tried USB and network printers) As best I can tell, a link is created in the Adobe reader "Open a Recent File" page on the client. If I click on this link in Adobe, I can then open and print the file as long as the x2go session is active. Once I shut down the x2go session, the link no longer works. Also, if I print as a .PDF, the file is generated on the client as a pdf, I can print it, and the file stays on the client. I.e., the print jobs used to go directly to the printer. Currently, I have to "print twice". Not a "hair on fire", but was wondering if there is a way to address this (possibly even in the Adobe settings, but ideally from the server). Does this sound like possibly a change in Acrobat? Or something I need to check on the x2go client or x2go server side? Thanks!
