Hi! Is there a chance to restrict access to x2go server to only published applications sessions in the way that a user can only establish x2go "published applications" sessions but no desktop session? Security setup on server with x2go

Hello, I would like to ask experienced users, how they solve security topics on their x2go servers. I have the server where users are allowed to start only very a limited set of commands through ssh. I am using sshd_config option ForceCommand which allows to start only /usr/local/bin/check_ssh_cmd where I test SSH_ORIGINAL_COMMAND. Everything works fine so far. Now I need to allow users to start also some commands through x2goclient. The problem is that in order x2go to work I need to allow also every single command which is sent by x2goclient. I tried to track what is being sent and there are a lot of commands like 'sh -c "echo X2GODATABEGIN: ... echo X2GODATAEND"'. So the question is, how to write the rules in check_ssh_cmd wrapper script. If I would allow any command containing X2GODATABEGIN and X2GODATAEND, it would probably work, but my security setup of ssh would be broken, because somebody who knows, how x2go internally works, could sent his own commands wrapped in X2GODATABEGIN and X2GODATAEND. What would you recommend? Any sugestions are appreciated. Pavel

x2go sessions

Hi there, is there a way I can limit the session types I offer to x2go clients? I would like to stop users from using gnome/kde sessions and get them to use icewm instead. I do realise that if they know how to they could simply execute the relevant session program directly. I'd just like to make the default session sane. X2Go client won't open desktop window on Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I've just upgrade my version of Mac OS X to 10.10 (Yosemite) and x2goclient (verion 4.0.2.1) started failing and printing the following message to .x2go/S-<my user>-50-1413676018_stDKDE_dp32/sessions: Socket: PANIC! Failed to resolve address of '/private/tmp/com.apple.launchd.iLnJoOXr4Z/org.macosforge.xquartz'. Loop: PANIC! Unknown display host '/private/tmp/com.apple.launchd.iLnJoOXr4Z/org.macosforge.xquartz'. As I try to open the connection a second time, a running section is detected, meaning the session was actually initiated but the client failed to open a local X11 window. The socket is present in the /private/tmp directory referred by the error message above, although its name ends with 'xquartz:0' instead of just 'xquartz'. Creating a symlink with the expected socket name does not solve the issue. It would seem like the client is trying to use the socket name as a host name? Perhaps misinformed by XQuartz? Any help will be greatly appreciated. X11 forwarding over SSH is working. It had some graphic glitches but I'm not sure they weren't there before. x2go not working on OS X Yosemite

It seems to hang. I get a dialogue box titled "Select session" with one session which has Status "running" but nothing else happens. Any ideas?

Client Wish List

I use X2Go for remote administration and I originate on several different platforms, most often Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, but also from MacOS 10.7.5 and from Windows XP. I also use X2Go to allow my customers remote desktop access to our shell servers. The X2Go client differs in behavior from other NX type clients in that on systems with virtual desktops or workspaces, they keyboard sequence used to switch workspaces, control+arrow key in the case of MacOS or control+alt+arrow key in the case of Ubuntu, do not work within the client, so when I have the client full-screened, I can't switch workspaces except by first minimizing the client. With OpenNX, NoMachine Player, or Remmina, I can use the keyboard short-cuts to switch work spaces without minimizing the client and that is much more convenient. Then on Mac there are further problems. On MacOS 10.7.5, without XQuarts, X2Go Client is completely unusable. Keyboard translations are severely messed up and it is unstable and usually dies or locks up within fifteen seconds. With XQuartz installed, behavior is much better, keyboard translation is correct with one exception, the state of CAPS LOCK is inverted, that is, when CAPS LOCK is on, I get upper and lower case characters, when it is off, I get UPPER CASE only. It's a minor nusiance and most notable when switching between X2Go client and other windows where I have to keep toggling the CAPS LOCK. Another behaviorial issue with MacOS is that it will only do full screen if I enable the X-server root window, however this breaks many things MacOS, and so it is essentially not usable in full screen. I do not have to do this with other NX clients, they all go full screen without using the root window and would very much desire this behavior also with X2Go client. On MacOS, sound does not work. It works on Windows and Linux fine, but not MacOS 10.7.5. It doesn't produce any errors, but doesn't produce any sound either. There are no choices for audio subsystems so nothing to attempt to tweak. This isn't a bitch list, just a wish list. I really appreciate the work you folks have put into X2Go, aesthetically, I find it far superior to NoMachine, it also connects far more reliably, and working sound is nice. I've got the server end working on Centos 6, Centos 7, Fedora 20, Scientific Linux 6, Scientific Linux 7, OpenSuse, Mint, Ubuntu, and until very recently Debian Wheezy. I've also got freenx-server working on all of these except Debian. For those of you who have experienced problems with the newer distributions move to compositing window managers that don't work with X2Go, check out mate-desktop.org. X2Go Server Weirdness

I have X2Go installed on Debian Wheezy, this is on an Intel I7-2600 based system. Until recently it was working but now when I try to connect with X2Go Client I get: Connection failed "has_agent_state_file" is not exported by the X2Go::Server::Agent module Can't continue after import errors at /usr/bin/x2golistsessions line 28 BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/x2golistsessions line 28. I have removed and re-installed all X2Go software and still get this same error. I've rebooted the machine, no change. I've Googled for this error and find absolutely no matches. The machine seems to be otherwise running okay so I'm at a complete loss.

error in the install wiki

I've noticed that the x2go installation wiki has a small error. on the page here that discusses the installation for Ubuntu 14.04: http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:installation:x2goserver It says to install "python-software-common" but the correct package name is "software-properties-common" . Can someone with edit access to the wiki make this trivial change? --lj

problem with logging in and ssh banners

Hi there, I have just installed the x2go EPEL packages on a SL 6.5 machine. It mostly works except that when I have a ssh banner the x2go client complains that a connection error occurred and displays the ssh banner. If I disable the banner it works just fine. I would very much like to keep the banner. Is this a known issue, are there any work-arounds? I have installed the following EPEL packages x2goagent-3.5.0.27-1.el6.x86_64 x2goserver-4.0.1.15-2.el6.x86_64 x2goserver-xsession-4.0.1.15-2.el6.x86_64 and client packages (also on SL 6.5): x2goclient-4.0.1.4-1.el6.x86_64 I use GSSAPI for logging in without a password. x2go broker server integration with ballast

Greetings, I'm looking for a load balancing solution for X2Go, and I've seen ballast turned up in several searches. It looks promising, but I was wondering if anyone has worked with it specifically in regards to X2Go, and even better, the Broker Server? I've tried using the Cluster Services developed by the X2Go team, but it seems to have major issues with root-squashed NFS mounted home directories, so it's somewhat of a no go for me. Hence, my quest for open source alternatives. x2go windows client session does not resume after being suspended

Hi, After I suspend the x2go client I'm unable to resume the session. The client stalls and nothing happens. The sessions file shows the following Loop: WARNING! Disabling NX delta compression. Hi, I have a thin client with 1 GHz and 512 MB RAM and it connects to the x2goserver via LAN (100 MBit/s). The performance isn't good. With my notebook (quadcore, 8 GB RAM) I have a very very good performance, So is there an option to reduce the cpu usage on the client? Regards

Published applications: subdirectories are ignored

Hello, is it a known limitation of X2Go that as published applications are only those listed, which reside in /etc/x2go/applications, and any that are in subdirectories such as /etc/x2go/applications/kde4 are ignored by X2Go client? (Tested on pyhoca-gui 0.4.0.8, x2goserver 4.0.1.15. I work-around that by symlinking each .desktop file individually instead /usr/share/applications only.) Mac client seems to hang frequently

I now have a second user on Mac who has issues with X2Go being very flakey, hanging etc. This is connecting to a Scientific Linux 6.5 server. We don't see hangs and crashes often or at all on Windows with the X2Go client. This is what the user reports: Just now I was able to use X2Go from my office Mac and with ICEWM with no problems. Then I exited, and tried to reconnect. It hangs at "Status: running" for about a minute, at which point I receive an error dialog box, "No response received from the remove server. Do you want to terminate the current session?" I tried reconnecting once more with no luck. Then a third time after restarting X2Go, which did make it work. Then I logged out and restarted again. This time it hung again, along with the entire X2Go client. Forcing quit and restarting, then trying to reconnect gave a different, "Access denied" error. OK. After more quitting & restarting I was again able to reconnect. So my question is: is this sort of behavior normal - say on the windows side? Is it possible to get pulseaudio sound in app mode?

Hi community, I'm trying to achieve this: build a Firefox/Iceweasel application server (Debian Wheezy) with several simultaneous clients using Raspberry Pi (Raspbian) using x2go, everything being in a LAN. Of course each user needs to hears just its own application sound. I don't want to send a full desktop manager as I just want them to use Firefox/Iceweasel. As of now, I don't have too much trouble to start Firefox/Iceweasel from clients. Only troubles I get are : * the size of the Firefox window doesn't manage to get the local screensize despite I tick "Fullscreen" in x2go, so I must use --heigth and --width command line parameter * menu at the top doesn't work ether * no sound at all I think everything is linked with the fact I try not to use a windows manager, but I'm even not sure pulseaudio can deal with several simultenous users. screen redraw/flickering issue on Mac OS client

Hello, I've had great success with using x2go using Debian as client and server. I'm experiencing an issue with the Mac client (v4.0.2.1) connecting to a Debian server (4.0.1.16-0x2go1+git20140926.935+jessie.main.1). I'm using XQuartz (2.7.7) in full screen mode on Mavericks. Every few seconds, the screen will drastically flicker, as if redrawing the entire screen, or as if X is very quickly switching back and forth between windows or something. It seems to happen more frequently when I am doing a lot of mouse/keyboard activity, although it does also happen if I stop and let the screen just sit there. Any ideas what might be causing this, or what options I might try to tweak to get rid of this issue? It's distracting enough that it really prevents normal usage. Thanks! Jeff
