x2goserver on Ubuntu Mate 15.04 with 4k monitor and high font-rendering DPI

Hello, I'm looking for a way to run *x2goserver* on *Ubuntu Mate 15.04* which is living on computer with *4k monitor* attached. I changed *DPI* settings in Control Center -> Appearance -> Fonts -> Details to *168* to let all applications look good when I work on that machine locally. When I connect to this machine using *x2goclient* running on another Ubuntu Mate 15.04 (attached monitor has resolution of 1680x1050, fullscreen mode) I am seeing *huge* fonts (as expected) because it also uses dpi of 168 for that remote connection. *My question*: would it be possible to run *pre-connection* (and then post-connection) script(s) to temporally change DPI to "normal" value of 96 before and recover it back to 168 upon completion of the x2go session? I guess it can be done by running "*gsettings set org.mate.font-rendering dpi 96*" command but I'm not sure where to include this command. And also I'm not sure how to protect against abnormal session termination... what if session will terminate without recovering DPI back to 168? Thanks. -- Simon

The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session.

I have an issue with a server, that has stopped working. I can log in with ssh, but the x2goclient gives the error "The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session. This may be due to the wrong authentication credentials passed to the server." I have other x2goservers, that works fine from the same client. The affected server has been rebooted, and I have also tried to purge x2goserver and reinstalled. No resolution yet. I can see that the version on the affected server is 4.0.1.19-0~106. On the server that works, it's 4.1.0.0-0~1257. I have tried to: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:x2go/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade But it seems like the update command don't fetch the x2go-repository at all. Anyone that has ideas to resolve this ? -- best regards Kjetil

X2Go Client: Where to put RSA key for auto login on Windows

Hi List I'm trying to use the "Try auto login" feature on Windows, but it's not working (tested with X2Go Client 4.0.3.2). When connecting, I'm always asked for a password to open the key, but I actually didn't set any passphrase at all for my RSA key. I suspect that maybe X2Go Client does not even find the key. Which is the right location to put my RSA key in? Does X2Go Client consider any environment variables? (When I enter the actual path to the key in the "Use RSA/DAS key for ssh connection" field and unset the auto login option, the connection works.) Thanks a lot for your help. Andy

Hi This is meant as a heads-up. After May, 23th, I will merge currently non-applied patches, apply trivial bugfixes and release new versions of at least the following components: - X2Go Client - X2Go Broker The new version of X2Go Client will NOT yet include the WIP OS X fixes and PulseAudio integration. It turned out that bundling PulseAudio is more complicated than I would have liked and getting things wrapped up is taking longer than expected. I plan to include them in 4.0.4.1, though. X2Go Broker has, likewise, seen a lot of changes that warrant a new release version. This was especially asked for by Mike Gabriel. Other components may also see releases dependent of my judgment. Newbie question: What is x2go's relationship to VcXsrv?

Hi I use VcXsrv and have just come across x2go. Please will someone explain if there is any relationship between x2go and VcXsrv? Why might I want to use x2go instead of VcXsrv? (I work on a Windows 8.1 machine and want to access GUI apps on Linux machines). Best regards David

I am still able to login and get a Mate session using x2Go. As I understand it Xinerama is used for dual monitor setups (which I haven't got). You'll see weird behavior with csh and others, though. Besides making all remote calls POSIX sh-compatible, I wouldn't know how to fix the problem. And I'm not even sure csh and friends *are* POSIX sh-compatible, without looking it up first... Keyboard Translation Mac/OS

I posted here a while back about an issue with keyboard translation with MacOS 10.10.3, it worked fine on my sons computer but not on a customers with the same OS. I went to the customers premise today and from his machine logged in as myself and the keyboard worked properly, logged in as him and it did not. We narrowed it down to his having /bin/csh as the shell on the Ubuntu 14.04 server and I /bin/ksh. Changing his shell to ksh resolved the translation issue. However, from a Ubuntu 14.10 Linux workstation, it is fine to have csh as the shell on the server, it only breaks if originating from a MacOS workstation. http proxy connection

Dear List, I'm trying to use X2go client with a http proxy connection. In the session options I selected the "Use proxy server for connection" and the type "HTTP", I entered the proxy port and address but when I start the session I always get this error: "cannot connect to proxy server". What it's wired is that even if I selected the http option when I try to start the session a window opens asking for the password for the SSH proxy. Are there any problems with the http proxy connection? Can I use X2go client with this type of connection? Thank you in advance for your help Kind regards Caterina

We have followed the guide on wiki.x2go.org on Pxe server but when we try booting up a pc with the thin client there comes a blue and white loading screen where it proseeds with a white screen where there it says plase wait loading and staying like that for a hole day.a more please help

The client and server would run on the same system. Background: I am looking for a solution to scale [Xfig][1] for use on HiDPI screens. What works is VNC: various VNC clients support scaling. X2go Xfce4 Yosimite

I've got kind of a strange situation I'm hoping someone might be able to help me troubleshoot. I've got a Ubuntu 14.04 server with a variety of Desktops including KDE, Xfce, and Mate. From my Ubuntu 14.10 Linux box, I can use X2go to connect to the Ubuntu server using any of the above. However, from a Mac running Yosimite 10.10.3, X2go just gets a black screen on the Ubuntu server using exactly the same account that works from my Ubuntu workstation. The Mac however can use the Mate desktop just fine. This kind of breaks my normal troubleshooting paradigm of substitute components until you determine which one is defective because in this case, the Mac works with Mate but not xfce, my Ubuntu box works with both. If the Mac was bad, it should be broken for both desktops I would think. If the xfce installation or x2go server was broken, it should be broken for both the Mac and my Linux box. The faq at: http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:faq States that Ubuntu 12.10 and up no longer offer Unity 2d, only plain Unity, so X2Go can't work with it. Actually, I've got Ubuntu 14.10 and it DOES include Unity2d in the distribution. Connection failing on Ubuntu 12.04 after upgrade

Hi, I've been using x2go for a while without any issues on Ubuntu 12.04. I've just done an update on the box, which updated x2go from 4.0.1.16-0~935~ubuntu12.04.1 to 4.0.1.19-0~1064~ubuntu12.04.1 and the nx libs from 2:3.5.0.27-0~446~ubuntu12.04.1 to 2:3.5.0.31-0~605~ubuntu12.04.1. (Packages installed via X2Go stable (main) PPA: https://launchpad.net/~x2go/+archive/ubuntu/stable) I no longer seem to be able to connect to the box via x2go. I have tried client 4.0.3.2 under Linux and 4.0.2.0 under windows. I have enabled debug logging on the server. First Time Woes

Installed x2go server on Ubuntu 15.04 (running under VMWare Workstation on Windows 8.1) Installed x2go client on Windows 8.1 I am now able to connect to Ubuntu, but all I get is a blank x2go window. My profile has the Unity desktop manager selected, but nothing happens and I have to force the connection closed. When I do a 'ps aux | grep x2go" I can see lots of stuff running, but Unity is not running in my x2go window. I can see the following running x2gocleansessions x2goruncommand x2goagent So far my experience is, like every other X/Windows I have ever used, it is a royal pain in the .... to get things configured and working. Where do I go from here? - Eric

pyhoca in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with Unity

I tried to launch the pyhoca-gui on my Ubuntu box but it did not go to the panel. So I searched for a solution and found the hints on http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:usage:pyhoca-gui. But unfortunately the hint to use gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']" does not work in Unity on Trusty as there is no entry com.canonical.Unity.Panel in the gsettings. Using dconf-editor I tried to find whether there is something similar or whether it had been moved into another tree but there is no node for Panel in no tree. Regards Ulrich
