Latency Issues

Hi, I am using X2Go Client and we are facing Latency issues when developers use it from different country and they use graphics functionalities. How can I reduce this latency effect? Remote machine is Linux CentOs and client is on Windows 7/Mac OS X I have done following based on different forums: 1) Use plain wall paper 2) Removed shared drive, audio support, local print support 3) Change the connection to ADSL Are there any other improvements I can do? -- Thanks, Nirav

Multimedia over the WAN

Hi, First off, thank you, so very much, to the x2go team. I support ~100 Gnome (soon to be MATE) desktop users in 4 offices in 3 States using FreeNX, and will be migrating to x2go over the next few weeks as we move to our new Debian 7.2 x2go server. I couldn't continue to do it without you! I'm quite impressed with the multimedia capabilities out of the box. Over the WANs, I can comfortably watch YouTube videos. The video is choppy, but serviceable. And the sound is flawless. Unfortunately, watching the same quality videos in, say, VLC, results in unusably stuttery sound. And even desktop sounds are choppy. The default alert "choing" plays the first few tenth of a second or so, pauses briefly, and then finishes. I assume Pulse Audio is just streaming the sound uncompressed. Is there any way to improve that situation? Any sort of compression (even ssh -C) might be an improvement. Or perhaps there's something that can be done with the buffering? I have managers in remote offices who would have need light usage of multimedia, for viewing multimedia resumés, etc. -Steve Bergman P.S. x2go in LXC (linux containers) - how to enable sound

I've been doing a lot with LXC containers for the past couple years. One potentially very interesting use of LXC is to implement x2go so each user on a single Host PC can have their own LXC container, their own "desktop" (lxde, xfce, mate etc), install their own applications etc all without any changes to the Host OS or interfering with other user's and their container based Desktop environment. If you are not familiar with LXC ... some of you may have read about Docker lately. Docker is based on LXC. There are many great benefits of LXC virtualization vs the hardware virtualization provided by vmware, kvm, virtualbox. Just a few are: - LXC is an order of magnitude faster from a performance perspective since there is no hardware virtualization involved - LXC containers can be created/cloned in seconds - LXC container's share the HOST OS's kernel so Host PC resource utilization is much less Anyway, LXC containers are extremely easy to create. But a default LXC container is usually used for "server" linux applications. But its simple to add any "desktop" environment you want to that server then also add x2goserver, x2goserver-xsession after which that LXC container becomes a great x2go server environment for a user. It is isolated from the Host OS, you can change whatever you want in it and the Host OS is unaffected. Anyway, the point of this note was to describe one area that took a while to figure out. LXC Containers as mentioned previous were primarily designed for "server" not "desktop" use-cases. As such "sound" was not enabled by default in new LXC containers. note: In LXC any Host OS resource is or is not permitted through use of a CGROUP file for each created Container Even using the Docker "desktop" example: http://blog.docker.io/2013/07/docker-desktop-your-desktop-over-ssh-running-… Sound does not work by default. After 3 weeks of researching, trying various ideas of how to enable sound I finally got it working after some careful reading of the pulseaudio.orgwebsite. Gnome Bindings in Ubuntu ppa disappeared?

Greetings! I am used to installing the x2gognomebindings package on a system when I install the x2goserver. Today I tried and aptitude returned with package not found. Sure enough, I aptitude search and the package is no longer present. What happened, and is there a work around? -- Kermit Short DCS-5

Windows compiling pyhoca-gui - gevent issue

Hello, I setup a Windows 7 32bit machine in order to compile Pyhoca-gui for windows. I have everything working thanks to: http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:development:build-howto-mswin:pyhoca-gui However I did run into an issue with gevent. Originally I was using the gevent binary release 0.13.8. However build_exe was failing, bbfreeze was calling multiplath and trying to import gevent.ares and failing. Sorry, I can't get the stack trace to copy/paste. >From what I can tell the ares module was optional, so it may not be in the binary release. Is that correct?? I got a binary release of 1.0b4 and installed it and now it is working. I did a basic sanity test only: - built and exe using build_exe - ran pyhoca-gui in dev mode and started and terminated a session. What I would like to know is what version of gevent was pyhoca-gui compiled with? How can I fix the binary gevent 0.13.8 release? Not sure I want to be running beta releases of gevent. Brent. In my experiments with Unity & Gnome I ended up just installing a different Desktop Environment. Mate, Xfce or LXDE are all easy to install and all work well with X2GO. If you are using ubuntu xfce -> $ sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop lxde -> $ sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop mate which is gnome2 based -> follow this: http://www.ubuntu-news.net/2013/11/13/install-mate-desktop-1-6-with-mintmen… I would assume these work the same on debian

x2go with gnome-shell >= 3.8

Is there a way to make x2go work with gnome-shell >= 3.8? Version 3.8 removes gnome fallback which is what x2go always used.

x2go, Wheezy, Firefox, Menus

Hi All - Am trying to diagnose an issue I think is consistent when using x2go, Wheezy, Gnome and Firefox (also seems to happen with Firefox). After x2go connects, and I start Firefox, the menus are unresponsive (e.g., take 30 sec - a minute) to respond. This doesn't happen with other apps such as LibreOffice, Gedit, etc. Q: Is there a way to trouble shoot this? Is there a patch or something I should do? Thanks

Pyhoca-Gui silent install?

Hey, It looks like the Pyhoca-Gui installer does not support a silent install. It looks like it is build with a NSIS installer and a /S should provide a silent install. Any chance you can added that functionality to the installer? Michael

keyboard mappings and xfce

First of all thanks for the awesome tool! I absolutely needed a faster way to remote control desktops. I have a question about the keyboard configuration I could not find an answer to while searching the net. I use a swiss-french keyboard layout on all my computers. All of them run Ubuntu with XFCE. I use x2goclient for as the grpahical UI for the connections. I tried many combinations of "keep current settings", running commands and entering something in layout and model. Once I got the keyboard working correctly on a stand alone remote session by changing the keyboard settings in XFCE settings manager. This is ok until now. But when I want to connect to the local desktop (a already running session), which is the most wanted use case for me, I do net get the right key mappings. The arrow cursor keys don't work, the accents and []{} keys and maybe others don't work right. And I'm not able to change this by setting a layout in the settings of XFCE nor by specifying "use current layout" or anything (what) else as settings in session management of x2goclient. Can you tell me the right way to configure this without having to type commands (xkbset?) everytime I log on?
