Hi Heinz,
Please confirm that it is OK for me to setup etckeeper + git on Japsand to revision control /etc/.
Some quick tips on usage for everyone:

BTW, an easy solution to this problem is etckeeper + git: https://packages.debian.org/wheezy/etckeeper Ah, that's actually a very nice idea for tracking config files! I will set it up, OK?
Generally more than OK from my side (as mentioned, I find the "plain" Debian way of (not) managing config files horrible), but please check back with Heinz, as it's his machine after all and he probably wants to be kept "in the loop" and approve of such drastic changes.

Whoops. I accidentally attached Mihai's signature.asc because I forwarded the email with GMail rather than Thunderbird, and I didn't de-select the attachment

Some quick tips on usage for everyone: 1. To basically "git add" and "git commit" everything after making a change, run "sudo etckeeper commit". You will be prompted for a changelog message. 2. if you do not run "sudo etckeeper commit" manually, it will be run automatically every night (/etc/cron.daily/etckeeper). 3. To view changes/history, run standard git commands with sudo under /etc/ .
