Hi everyone,
"X2Go: The Gathering 2015" will *not* take place at Treuchtlingen, as originally planned.
Heinz has agreed with me that the reservation policies of the hotels there don't work too well for us (as you know, we would have had to reserve rooms by February 18 for our May 08-10 event), at least not for this type of event.
So for "X2Go: The Gathering 2015" we're relocating to Linuxhotel, Essen.
There will be another event in Treuchtlingen later this year that will focus on founding an X2Go foundation/club (“eingetragener Verein” under German law), an event which will primarily cater to German participants. This won't happen until October, probably, and Heinz will be the one taking care of that.
As this means we're starting all the planning from scratch, it also means that not only the location for "X2Go: The Gathering 2015" has changed, but the date may change as well.
I am in contact with Linuxhotel to determine which weekends are available, and will try to come up with an alternative date where more core developers can make it to the Gathering.
Linuxhotel needs our fixed reservations until April 18 *if* the event takes place in May.
Also, some of you have indicated that they felt a little lost and out of place, and that our meeting was too development-centric.
I apologize that last year, I failed to come up with an an agenda that wass evenly weighted between user and developer interests, and will try to do better in the future.
The original idea behind the community event (back in its X2Go HackTrain days) was getting developers *and* users to the table, so devs stay in touch with their user base, and the users have the chance to gain some insight as to why the devs did certain things in certain ways.
So if anyone of the users would like to hold a talk - or simply suggest a topic for a discussion, I'm totally open for it. Please post your suggestions to x2go-project or e-mail me.
More info to come.
