Hi everyone,
the audio recording of our last talk is now online:
https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/events:start#chaos_computer_club_stuttgart_g…
We currently have two isses with the video recording:
a) We're lacking legal clearance for three images that we used.
b) Our host forgot to mention the recording during his introductory
speech, so we have to black out/censor the audience before releasing
the video.
We're hoping to resolve a) and have contacted the copyright holder.
For b), work is already in progress by the friendly video crew of our
host.
If we can't get a) resolved, we'll have to black out parts of the
screen as well.
So: Standby, we're working on it. :-)

Hi everyone,
"X2Go: The Gathering 2015" will *not* take place at Treuchtlingen, as
originally planned.
Heinz has agreed with me that the reservation policies of the hotels
there don't work too well for us (as you know, we would have had to
reserve rooms by February 18 for our May 08-10 event), at least not
for this type of event.
So for "X2Go: The Gathering 2015" we're relocating to Linuxhotel, Essen.
There will be another event in Treuchtlingen later this year that will
focus on founding an X2Go foundation/club (“eingetragener Verein”
under German law), an event which will primarily cater to German
participants. This won't happen until October, probably, and Heinz
will be the one taking care of that.
As this means we're starting all the planning from scratch, it also
means that not only the location for "X2Go: The Gathering 2015" has
changed, but the date may change as well.
I am in contact with Linuxhotel to determine which weekends are
available, and will try to come up with an alternative date where more
core developers can make it to the Gathering.
Linuxhotel needs our fixed reservations until April 18 *if* the event
takes place in May.
Also, some of you have indicated that they felt a little lost and out
of place, and that our meeting was too development-centric.
I apologize that last year, I failed to come up with an an agenda that
wass evenly weighted between user and developer interests, and will
try to do better in the future.
The original idea behind the community event (back in its X2Go
HackTrain days) was getting developers *and* users to the table, so
devs stay in touch with their user base, and the users have the chance
to gain some insight as to why the devs did certain things in certain
ways.
So if anyone of the users would like to hold a talk - or simply
suggest a topic for a discussion, I'm totally open for it. Please
post your suggestions to x2go-project or e-mail me.
More info to come.
Please remember to subscribe to X2Go-Project if you haven't already
done so, as this is where future updates will be announced.

Hi everyone,
a short while ago, we created a new mailing list for project-related
information: http://lists.x2go.org/listinfo/x2go-project
In the beginning, we crossposted information sent to x2go-project to
X2Go-Dev and to a lesser degree also to X2Go-User.
This was a "grace period" to ease transition.
I would like to ask everyone that from now on, project-related mails
are only sent to x2go-project, so x2go-dev regains its focus on
development issues and x2go-user is for usage-related questions again.
If you would like to reply to this mail, please reply on x2go-project
only. (I have set a corresponding reply-to, but some mail clients
might choose to ignore that.)
Kind Regards,
Stefan

Dear Developers,
dear friends of ΞX2Go!
This year's community event will take place in Treuchtlingen.
It is my pleasure to invite all developers and friends to visit
this little franconian town.
Once again - as we did last year - we will meet for 3 days to
hack, discuss and have fun.
X2Go was born in 2006 in Treuchtlingen.
For our developers, we have reserved a hotel that is not far from the
venue. Wi-Fi will be available. The reservation is valid until February
18th.
Thus, please declare your participation on our wiki page so that we can
make use of this reservation. Other accommodations in Treuchtlingen
are available, but it would be great to stay together.
Participation list including preliminary schedule and travelling
information:
http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/events:x2go-gathering-2015
Please stay tuned for further information!
Regards,
Heinz

Hi all,
I would like to make a release for nearly all X2Go components.
Reason:
o .spec files for SLE builds are now complete
o several X2Go components are overdue for a release
o x2godesktopsharing has now been fixed on x2goserver's master branch
(and already way back on release/4.0.1.x branch).
As this will be my last release cycle in X2Go (see [1]), I would like
to take the chance to do the release cycle together with someone else
(e.g. Heinz, Mihai, Stefan). So that the steps are clear and finally
get documented.
Also, we need to discuss, if it is time to release x2goserver 4.1.0.0
(Git master branch of x2goserver.git) or if we stick with 4.0.1.x
(i.e. 4.0.1.19 as upcoming release). Both branches are ready for a
release. The 4.1.0.0 has Telekinesis and Multimedia Support +
SuperRenicer support.
Furthermore, I also want to release NX-libs 3.5.0.29. There have been
massive changes on NX-libs recently. The code base of actually used
code could be reduced from 93mb to 41mb.
It would be good if as many people as possible could test NX-libs from
the nightly builds on non-productive systems. People interested in a
snapshot tarball, can do this:
git clone git://code.x2go.org/nx-libs.git
cd nx-libs
debian/roll-tarball.sh HEAD server
@Heinz, Mihai: who of you is available for doing the next releases with me?
@Stefan, Heinz, Alex, Mihai: What is your opinion about releasing X2Go
Server 4.1.0.0?
@Alex: It would be good if you could take a look at the reduced NX
tarball and what I
have removed from it (debian/CODE-REDUCTION_*).
@Orion: you may also be interested in taking a look at the latest NX
changes, I guess.
Greets,
Mike

/me personally prefers IRC-only meetings, as they are likely to be
more productive and to the point.
An IRC-only meeting can be easily posted to the x2go-project ML after
the meeting.
People with not-so-much-typing-speed should prepare written questions
/ contributions / statements in advance to that they can be easily
copy-pasted when appropriate.
When doing a phone conference, we
(1) should make sure that everyone can attend the call who wants to join in.
(2) should all be in IRC so that we can share URLs etc. with each other
(3) agree on someone responsible for a typed protocol that gets
sent to the ML(s) later
light+love,
Mike

Dear Developers,
I'd like to invite you to assemble together and talk about the
development of X2Go. I really think it is a good idea to have us all
meeting at the same time, at the same place.
Of course there will be some issues about the place, because this will
need to be a virtual place, so it might be a good idea to start with the
quest for a suitable time.
I've created a wiki page for this task and would be glad if you could
please tell us about when it is possible for you to join an online
meeting:
http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:development:planning:schedule
You'll need to be a wiki user to sign the form and I'll add a new wiki
user group for development aiding pages.
All times are GMT based!!
Please don't start a discussion about the used service/protocoll yet, as
we should have first made sure, that we'll be able to meet!
The collected Information will be shown to everybody - please let me
know if this is a problem! The table will help to make suggestions for
our meeting.
So thank you for your help,
Heinz-M. Graesing
