Hi,
I searched the web and mailing list archives, but didn't find an answer to my question: Is it possible to start x2go with the X11 screen saver extension enabled? I'd need it to get X11 idle time on the command line.
Thanks,
Roland

does anybody have an idea about this, or is it just not possible with current versions of X2go?
Thanks,
Roland

I've never tried it. What happends if you enable the screen saver? Do you mean a screensaver on the client or in the session on the server?
With regards, Paul van der Vlis.

I've just tried it with the screensaver in the session enabled, and with a full-screen session. The screensaver did work without problems.

I know, some screensavers don't use the X11 screen saver extension. But I need the program xprintidle to work which requires this extension (see Ubuntu/Debian package xprintidle).
Thanks,
Roland

Hi again,
is it really possible that nobody knows how to do this or whether it is possible at all? I'd appreciate a short answer. Here the question again:
Is it possible to start x2go with the X11 screen saver extension enabled, and if yes, how?
Thanks,
Roland

Hello Roland,
I asked some questions, you did not answer them. Maybe you can tell a bit more about your problem.
I can remember I did some tests with the screensaver on both the client and in the session, but I did not see any problem.
Maybe you mean something else then simply using a screensaver? I am not sure my screensaver is using the X11 screen saver extention.
What is exactly this X11 screen saver extention and why do you need it?
Are you using full-screen sessions or not, and what is you host-OS?
With regards, Paul van der Vlis.

in my reply a couple of weeks ago, I wrote (see also below):
"I know, some screensavers don't use the X11 screen saver extension. But I need the program xprintidle to work which requires this extension (see Ubuntu/Debian package xprintidle)."
If you start the program xprintidle, you get the message:
$ xprintidle screen saver extension not supported
I need this program to work, because it will tell me the amount of X11 idle time from which I trigger some actions for other programs when a certain amount of idle time has passed.
So the fact that some screensavers work, unfortunately doesn't help, since these obviously are programmed without needing the "X11 screen saver extension".
All this comes back to the final question: Is it possible to activate the extension (or other X11 extensions), and if yes how?
Thanks,
Roland

Sorry, maybe I've missed this message.

Sorry, I don't know.
X2go is using the NX libraries from Nomachine. These libraries have a complete (changed) embedded copy of Xorg inside, maybe without the X11 extention. I know you can change some things on it, e.g. with shortcuts: http://www.nomachine.com/ar/view.php?ar_id=AR03C00172 But I think some things are possible with arguments too.
I would search the site of Nomachine to find more information about it: http://www.nomachine.com/support.php Not sure you will find...
With regards, Paul van der Vlis.

I looked into this a bit deeper, and I found out that /usr/lib/x2go/x2goagent is the actual X server that is being used by x2go. Now this X server doesn't have the MIT-SCREEN-SAVER compiled as a module. So the question is, whether it is possible to obtain the source code somewhere, so I could compile this with the screen saver extension included.
Best regards,
Roland
