I could test this tomorrow on Mac, should I use just the normal downloadable client? Any unobvious steps to repeat this?

Yes. Looking at http://code.x2go.org/releases/binary-macosx/x2goclient/ it seems that x2goclient-3.99.2.1.dmg ist the current Mac OS client we have available.

No, just try crashing the client in the ways that have been described here. To sum them up:
Please cc: 100@bugs.x2go.org when reporting your results so they get attached to the bug report.
