I have tried to ask this question in User mailing list, but couldn't get any help, so I am hoping the developer mailing list can provide a solution.
I have X2Go server installed on my Ubuntu 14.04 computer, and have X2Go client installed on my Windows 7 computer. When I try to use "Connection to local desktop" to remotely connect to Ubuntu, I will get a connection failed error: "No protocol specified xwininfo:error:unable to open display ":0"
Can someone tell me how to fix this?
BTW, I need to use Desktop Sharing.
Thanks,
Jeffrey

Uh, you did get a reply there, by Bengt Giger. If his suggestion doesn't fix your problem, please state that.

Yes, I did get a reply from Bengt Giger, but he suggested me not to use Desktop Sharing (connection to local desktop). However, I really need to use Desktop Sharing, that is why I said I couldn't get any help from the User mailing list.

Jeffrey

Desktop sharing is a tool to "mirror" an already running and connected X2Go connection. So unless you already have one running session, X2GoClient has nothing to connect to when you select Desktop Sharing, thus it rightfully complains. At least that is my understanding of things - may the devs correct me if I'm wrong.
That's why Bengt suggested you select a different session type.

It may help if you are logged in on :0 with the same user as the one you are trying to remote connect with..... if you do so, after you log in you will probably get a dialogue where you can select :0 and.... after selecting it.... in a few moments or so.... (be patient) you'll get your :0

At our X2Go Gathering last weekend that there is something
tremendously going wrong with the desktop sharing. I haven't had time
to look at that issue, but it needs addressing soon. So stay tuned...
