Hello x2gousers,
let's start this mail with the good news. After reading the next lines, you'll be able to test the new features of our new release. You'll just have to add the following line to your /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://x2go.obviously-nice.de/deb/ heuler main
Please don't remove the main x2go repository. After doing an apt-get update you'll be able to access new versions of x2goclient, x2goserver and the new packages x2godesktopsharing and x2goplasmoid. The new packages are not yet named 3.1 (planned version number of baikal). Little baby seals a called "Heuler" in german, so this is a preview and not the new release. Please keep in mind, that there are still some things need to be done before we can do the "real" release.
The new features/changelog:
x2goclient old 3.01-5 new 3.01-11 New features:
x2goserver old 3.01-5 new 3.01-9 New features:
new packages: x2godesktopsharing x2goplasmoid
not updated: x2goclient-gtk
Following issues are known: Connections to localhost are known to be problematic. We'll work on this issue. On some distros (with a different zip application to debian) the plugin content is unzipped without the applied user rights. In this case firefox crashes during the visit of a site containing the plugin. You can avoid this by running following command inside the users home directory:
chmod +x .mozilla/firefox/[profile]/extensions/x2goplugin@obviously-nice.de/x2goclient/x2goclient
Don't use the x2goldaptools for generating a LDAP config on top of debian squeeze (debian made a change to gnutls).
We'll work on those and on the reported bugs.
Please keep in mind, that those packages are meant for testing. In the next days we'll add documentation of the new features to the wiki:
best regards,
Alex & Heinz

Great timing. I can fire the new release up and test it over the weekend.
And can you get a fix for this localhost issue into the real release?
It would speed up testing.

The plugin performs very well so far. I only notice just a few things.
When using the plugin today I notice that it puts the entire 'command' on the x2go login screen. Even command passwords are displayed. Would it be possible to restrict this to maybe just the first word of the 'command'?
And putting the mouse cursor over the title bar of detached single app windows will many times kill the window resulting in a suspended session. Is it possible to prevent this?
And would it be possible to add the Mac client to the plugin?

More testing...
Plugin settings in the server.x2go file do not reflect in the Settings screens in the plugin Toolbar. So you cannot investigate a setting without going back and finding the applicable server.x2go file.

Still more:
When using Ubuntu Lucid on both client and server I cannot get printing to work. It was working fine under 3.01-5. Is there some other option needed with this new version?
And shared folders only mount if I open a terminal on the x2goserver machine and issue 'modprobe fuse'. Not something a non-technical user would normally be able to do.

After terminating a session the log shows it as terminated, then about 20 secs later a pop up message appears saying the session lost network connection accompanied by another log message saying invalid session.
After terminating the one and only session existing, the Reconnect button is still active and unpredictable things happen when you click on it. Like ghost shared mounts on the desktop. Sometimes it kicks back with a lost network connection message. And sometimes you get a new session.

I had also problems with fonts, not excpecially with Wine.
If you use Gnome, please take a look at this setting: system | preferences | appearance | tab fonts | button details look there at the resolution, I make it normally '96' but that's not always the case.
(translated, so maybe a little bit different).

Hi, Paul. I wonder if this is an issue of your not using the DPI settings in the X2Go client. I find font sizing is hit and miss and usually too small if I to do set it in the client - John

Some additional information:
the plugin itself is under development. It's a combination of x2goclient and and a dynamically linked library (.so / .dll), but what you see and can use is mainly the classic "x2goclient" as we know it. The library is needed to start x2goclient. We are discussing to use "qtbrowserplugin" instead, which would replace the library and will offer support for other browsers (like ie). You can have a look inside the code of the library here:
http://x2go.obviously-nice.de/mozplug/
To build an operational library, you'll have to download and use a mozilla firefox source tree.

We have not yet figured out why as we get different results with the same version of Firefox on the same version of Windows :( - John

Hello, John
Please, look in system logs on Windows. One of our customers have the same problem. And we have found, that firefox can not load x2goplugin.dll with error message, something like:
Generate Activation Context ist für x2goplugin.DLL fehlgeschlagen. Referenzfehlermeldung: Der Vorgang wurde erfolgreich beendet. Resolve Partial Assembly ist für Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC fehlgeschlagen. Referenzfehlermeldung: Die referenzierte Assemblierung ist nicht auf dem Computer installiert.
