Mike,
Ok, in your case I think you should immediately construct the minimum proof-of-concept that provides your basic framework for your intended usage. Then as it proceeds ask questions necessary to get it built. If it works then the rest should just be adding flesh and some extensions.

No I have not done that and I will do. It sounds like it might also be
good to wait for the new package versions.
