Looks like there are updates available for both firefox-esr and X2Go since, so I'll try updating and see if and what that changes.
Something else: I'm using published application mode. Are you using it in a full desktop environment, as a single application, or also in published application mode?
published applications mode (rootless nxagent sessions) are much
slower then full desktop sessions.
The real reason for it is not yet known AFAICT (probably some issue
with bitmaps, interaction between remote nxagent session and local
window manager, but just a wild guess).
