Last time I tried on CentOS 8 it wasn't working though (I had a library problem or config problem). Here is the command I used back then: dnf install -y xfdesktop gtk-doc xfce* lightdm firefox

Workaround is to disable compositing:

/usr/bin/xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing -s false

I encountered the above issue in AlmaLinux 8; CentOS 8 would likely be using the same software versions.
