re x2go plugin for Remmina

I had used Remmina extensively before I found out about x2go. Its a very nice application. Display errors in color picker

Hi list, the attached image shows a display error that occurs when you try to set the desktop background color in LXDE. The funny thing is that I've seen this error before: When using KDE 3 and NoMachine NX/FreeNX. Does anybody know how to fix this? Client is Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit, German) with 32-bit color depth and the X2go client version is 3.99.0.2. Connection speed is set to ADSL, compression method is set to 16m-jpeg and image quality is set to 9. Server is Debian Squeeze with the latest packages and patches installed - Mike Gabriel was kind enough to provide me with an account on his test server while mine is undergoing repairs. Printing-related question for Windows X2go client users

Hi list, this question goes out to all the Windows users of the X2go-Client: Has anybody ever tried to use "Sumatra PDF" as a PDF endpoint on the Windows client, instead of Adobe Reader? It seems rather interesting, as it is GNU licensed, offers commandline options to print a file to the default printer (or show a print dialog) and auto-terminate itself after printing has finished (look for "Command-line arguments" in the online manual linked below). Hi List, subject says it all, so here's a short description of the test environment: Server is a vserver running Debian Lenny (oldstable/5.0.9) but the 2.6.32-5-vserver-amd64 kernel (as the host is Debian Squeeze). dpkg -l|grep x2go ii nxcompshad 3.4.0-1-1 nx based library needed by the x2go system ii x2go-keyring 2011.04.19+lenny~main~10~build1 GnuPG keys of X2go developers ii x2goagent 3.4.0-3-1 Special NX-ized client, was developed by NoMachine to handle X ii x2goserver 3.0.99.8-0~x2go-bpo1+lenny~main~388~build1 X2go server daemon scripts ii x2goserver-extensions 3.0.99.8-0~x2go-bpo1+lenny~main~388~build1 X2go server daemon scripts (extensions) Client is "Windows 7 Home Premium", 32-Bit, running X2Go Client V.3.99.0.1 (Qt-4.5.3) - not a clean install, but installed over a previous, older version. 1) Accidentally attempting to connect to the wrong server crashes the client. What happened: * Host is configured to use private key files and doesn't have a corresponding user * Vserver is running sshd on a different IP/port * Client connects to the host instead of the vserver due to the wrong port number, using password-interactive authentication, which is denied by the server, also, there is no user present on the host that matches the given username ==>Crash (System message offering to close the program or look online for help) 2) Attempting to connect to a host that has a different ssh key than the one seen previously shows a small popup "Authentication failed" that complains about the offending key, but it immediately causes a Crash (same as above) - there's not even a chance to click on the "OK" button of that popup. Integration of X2Go client (again)

Hi List, does anyone know what needs to be done so that the X2Go client (http://wiki.x2go.org/wiki:components:x2goclient#download) could be added to Thinstation (http://www.thinstation.org/)? Thinstation supports a wide range of remote desktop solutions, it's a bit of a shame that X2Go isn't among them. Note: I had sent a similarly-worded message to the x2go-dev mailing list, where it was suggested that I ask the same question on the thinstation-developer list, with a pointer to the x2go-dev mailing list. The x2go-developers (notably Mike Gabriel) are, and I quote, "very open to an integration and will give support with whatever necessary..." Hi List, I'd like to suggest two changes to the X2go Windows client, though they might make sense for the MacOS X and Linux Clients (when used on a "fat" Linux client) as well: 1) UI change: When the x2go-client is *not* used in thin-client mode, the session selection screen should not fill the entire screen. It should be the size of a single session item, like in the vertical bar on the right, or similar in size to the Nomachine NX client login screen. I fully understand that you need a screen-filling display mode when running on a thin client, so maybe there should be a command line option to select which UI mode is needed, and make the smaller one the default on Windows (and possibly Mac OS X as well) at compile-time. 2) Behavioral change: When a session is active, the Windows 7 task bar shows two windows: The remote desktop/application, as well as the session selection screen. In my opinion, the session selection screen should be hidden when a successful connection has been established. It should only pop up again if the session was terminated due to an error (application crash, loss of network connection, etc.). Again, this is similar to how NoMachine NX clients handle this. Another x2go client error on Windows (and weird UI design)

Hi List, whenever I end a session, I somehow need to confirm this by having to click the button on the right in the session selection screen, which I find awkward, compared to how NoMachine simply closes the session when the remote application/desktop is closed. Then, another Window pops up warning me that all unsaved data will be lost and asks me to confirm this. This seems rather silly, as at this moment, there's nothing I could do to change this - there is no application window, no desktop, where I could click "save" - after all, I just intentionally closed all these windows! Now, if I click on "OK", the window disappears and I'm seeing the session selection screen again, where I still/again have the option to click the button I just clicked before. It seems to take a few seconds before anything happens and the session is properly terminated - if I click the button before that, the x2go client becomes unstable and crashes most of the time I tried this (usually when the popup appears for the second time). [SOLVED] x2goserver installation on Debian lenny

Hi all, with the latest Debian lenny backport of x2goserver, some problems occurred, that now have been fixed. 1. The x2gobasepath script in x2goserver was broken with Debian lenny's Perl version. This caused x2goserver installation to fail on Debian lenny. This issue has been fixed now. 2. The x2godbadmin script caused some DBI errors on X2Go SQLITE db creation, this issue now also has been fixed. Hello, x2go client 3.99.0.1 (and 3.99.0.0 and 3.01.18) is not working under windows 7. Session is established but connection timeout. On the server side in log: sshd[1903]: error: connect_to localhost port 30001: failed. I use debian squeeze and x2go server from http://packages.x2go.org/debian. 3.01.18 under ubuntu with no problem Where is the problem?

The thing is, i am recreating the interface with an UI designer and i want to take the .ui file for the main X2GO window but, i just found them for the print and xserver settings (there is a lot of lost options). nx-libs -> nightly-builds

Hi all, after the first successful tests with NX libraries from nx-libs.git on X2Go Git I have exchanged the up-to-now used NX libraries (from nxcomp.git, nxcompext.git, nxcompshad.git, nxproxy.git) with the NX libraries built from nx-libs.git in the X2Go nightly-build Debian repository. For more info on why I did this: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.terminal-server.x2go.devel/2803 I have also adapted x2goagent to that change and its Debian packages currently building on my development machine and will be available soon. On Launchpad I have created a Git->Bazaar import branch nx-libs-trunk which imports git://code.x2go.org/nx-libs.git. This branch will build its first packages in 2 days, apprxtly. Whenever these are built, I will manually kick off a new x2goagent build against these new libraries. On my test rigs this combination of x2goagent and NX libraries already fixes the observed crashes, whereas the way our packages are built now is much cleaner again. However, what is missing: nx-libs.git and x2goagent.git share a lot of identical code. It should actually be possible to build x2goagent.git against nx-libs.git whereas removing a great amount of redundant code from x2goagent.git. This is still on the todo list, though... Hi all, just a short notice on our mailing list hoster BerliOS... It very much looks like it that the BerliOS OSS development portal (www.berlios.de) will be continued beyond Dec 2011. The logistical and monetary infrastructure behind the BerliOS portal is currently moved from a research project to an NGO organizational form and from my perspective the chances are rather high that in the future the X2Go mailing list hosting on the BerliOS mail server(s) can also be continued. If this turns out to be different we will let you know ASAP, currently, however, no action (mailing list migration) seems to be necessary. We'll keep you posted!!! About x2go client/plugin There are some things that I would like to understand better. 1. Is the plugin suppose to work in various browsers, line firefox, Chrome, Opera, IE Safari etc... as the documentation of QTBrowserPlugin advertise ? If it is the case, how can I achieve that ? For instance, If I extract the xpi file from the firefox plugin and replace the .so file inside, is that it ? How about Chrome ? 2. How do I compile x2goplugin in Windows to be able to make a Windows version of the plugin ? 3. As You told me, and saw from the code, the plugin needs a few libs, to compile/run. Hello, Could you send the link in the wiki you used for reading about x2goplugin? Maybe it's not the newest version that gets referred to. I searched again for that page, but couldn't find it, so I guess it has been removed as you are in the process of wiki migration. x2goplugin is x2goclient compiled with diffferent options. So the plugin is found in x2goclient.git on git.x2go.org. Could you tell me how to compile x2goclient for a x2goplugin ??? I'm trying to get started with x2go and I could use some hints. Hello x2go mac os lion users, here is a workaround for using x2go client on os x lion: 1. Download and install OpenNX Client for Mac. (http://sourceforge.net/projects/opennx/) 2. Inside the opennx...dmg right click the OpenNX.pkg and click "show package content" 3. Doubleclick Contents/Archive.pax.gz 4. Go inside Archive/Library/OpenNX 5. Copy "bin" + "lib" + "share" to your clipboard (cmd-c) 6. Go to your x2goclient.app 7. Right click the x2goclient.app and click "show package content" 8. Go to "Contents" folder 9. Paste your clipboard inside this folder 10. Copy the content inside the "bin" folder to the "exe" folder (nxproxy will be overwritten) Now you can start x2goclient and connect to your server. new strategy for building NX libraries

Hi all, after a chat with Reinhard this noon, we (X2Go packagers/upstreamers) will change the strategy for building NoMachine library packages for Debian based systems. We have discovered that the functionality of the libxcomp* packages is mid-heavily broken if they (probably esp. the libxcompext package) are not built against NoMachine's X server nx-X11 but built against the distro's own X-Server code. The newer the distro's X-Server seems to be the greater the problems seem to become. Thus, we have set up the nx-libs.git project on the X2Go Git site: http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=nx-libs.git;a=summary In the test branch of that repository you can find a dirtily hacked proof of concept. Proof in that context means: we (X2Go upstream) had tremendous problems with crashing x2goagent sessions (X2Go's pendant to nxagent) and we could narrow it down to the way we build the NX lib packages. So far, we used to build each NoMachine source tarball as a separate .deb source package. The source tree of the test branch of nx-libs.git shows the structure of the new package strategy. It already builds most of NX properly (most of... means: the -dev packages are not complete yet). However, the test branch is a dirty hack in terms of upstream release history etc. Thus, Reinhard has agreed on cleanly importing NoMachine upstream tarballs of the missing code projects nxcomp, nxcompshad, nxcompext and merge(?) them into the master branch. Once this is done, I will add patches (via quilt) and place the /debian folder from the test branch into the master branch. X2Go will from then on use these NX libraries in their Repositories. .deb packages will bear a new package version number: old: 3.5.0-X-Y~x2go1... new: 2:3.5.0-0~x2go1... Also: as we pull several NoMachine upstream source projects into one big source package, we will not be able to fully map the version numbers as used by NoMachine, e.g. nxcomp 3.5.0-2 nxcompext 2.5.0-1 ... will all be pulled into nx-libs 3.5.0 What packages with what exact version numbers are included in that big source package has to be documented elsewise (e.g. a README, debian/changelog, etc.). BTW: nx-libs will also have nxauth and nxagent as fall-out (not such a nice word...). So X2Go's nx-libs.git project can also be interesting for other NX related projects. @Stephane, RT: I guess that this piece of information might also be helpful to the FreeNX people. Are you in contact with any of the developers? Maybe it would be good to point them at this mail? Dear all, (resending this mail to x2go-user, x2go-dev, corrected mail address of announcement list, fixed minor inaccuracies of the first version sent to the lists) as many of you have reported, there are major issues with the version of NoMachine's NX libraries that are currently provided on packages.x2go.org and in X2Go's Ubuntu Launchpad. The occurring crashes of X2Go sessions do not relate to the code itself but to the way the code (from X2Go Git) currently is built (i.e. compiled and packaged). Only five weeks ago, Alex, Reinhard and Mike could narrow the problems down to the build method being used. The issues probably also apply to the way other NX related projects build their (Debian-ic) packages. So, if anyone needs more details on this, feel free to contact us on this list. As a matter of fact, we currently can't consider the available NX libraries provided on packages.x2go.org (with obvious effect on x2goagent) as ,,stable'' at all; session crashes can easily be reproduced on various setups. Certain actions within the X2Go session cause naughty reconnect or disconnect messages for the client user and many times the sessions die seemingly without reason. This problem is due to NX libraries being built against the distribution's X server development files and not against the development files of nx-X11 (Xserver provided by NoMachine). Unfortunately, the former build method, however, has been state-of-the-art for the Debian-like packages ever since. We are working on a new way of building those packages, see below. As there have been many complaints we'll respond by offering intermediate packages that do not contain these problems. However, these packages have been built in a non-Debian state-of-the-art way and the solution provided from us is only a temporary workaround until we have solved the package build method for these packages. Alex has built packages using a non-Git based build environment, one we used before we changed to working with Git. The provided packages have the same package names as found in Git, they also have a slightly higher version number so your systems will upgrade easily if you use the ,,workaround'' package set: libxcomp3 libxcompext3 libxcompshad3 These new packages should do their job well, as we can't reproduce the reported crashes with them anymore. Currently, we are working with high pressure on cleanly-built NX packages (see: Git project nx-libs.git, test branch, also x2goagent.git, test branch), so that we can provide Git based NX packages soon again. DEBIAN ====== If you want to use those packages on Debian, please make sure that you have deb http://packages.x2go.org/debain squeeze main (or wheezy main, sid main) as package source configured in your APT system. If that is the case simply upgrade the above named packages and then you should get the workaround NX packages installed. $ apt-get update $ apt-get install libxcomp3 libxcompext3 libxcompshad3 If encountering errors during installation, also make sure to uninstall all development packages around NX libs before upgrading to the workaround package set: $ apt-get remove libxcomp-dev libxcompshad-dev libxcompext-dev $ apt-get remove libxcomp3-dbg libxcompshad3-dbg libxcompext3-dbg We'll keep the NX workaround packages in the "main" area of our Debian repos as long as needed. This is similar to what I was hoping x2goserver-xsession would fix, except I'm using pure Xubuntu (which uses XFCE). I currently (without using x2goserver-xsession) have to use a custom script to set a missing environment variable in order to get the Xubuntu desktop in x2goclient instead of the default XFCE desktop. I have not yet tested to see if x2goserver-xsession fixes this issue for me. It's possible that Lucas is experiencing the problem because he installed Lubuntu-desktop over the top of Ubuntu. It's also possible that x2goserver-xsession doesn't provide access to the Lubuntu-themed LXDE session when x2goclient is told to start an LXDE session; I'm not sure what session type you're supposed to request x2goclient to use when also using x2goserver-xession. New package: x2goserver-xsession

Hi all, I am currently introducing a new xserver add-on package: x2goserver-xsession. The package will add Xsession script processing for X2Go desktop sessions. My personal context of the package is: load X desktop-profiles on X2Go session startup -> show Skolelinux/Debian Edu customized menu/desktop profiles in X2Go sessions when connecting to a Debian Edu terminal server. The first draft is currently building for nightly builds (X2go Debian repos). As this is a new x2goserver feature, the x2goserver package from nightly builds might be a bit wobbly for the next upcoming days. Hi, concerning installation there currently are separate pages for every OS and even for adding repos and installing. I'd suggest to put them on one page and use anchors. Hello, since about a month or so I haven't been able to (re)install the x2goclient on maverick due to a dependency issue. I'm using the following archive: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/x2go/stable/ubuntu maverick main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/x2go/stable/ubuntu maverick main The following packages have unmet dependencies: x2goclient: Depends: libssh-4 (>= 0.4.7) but it is not going to be installed. yet maverick has: Package: libssh-4 ... Version: 0.4.5-1 So what would the best way to resolve this issue? Thanks! David
