Hi guys, I am unable to uninstall x2gotrinitybindings. Please fix this. And I think we need some kind of check that in future, such code doesn't end up in the stable repository (maybe a test box that does apt-get install --reinstall <packagename> and checks for errors/warnings in the output before a package goes into stable?). nx-libs breaks with libpng 1.5.x

Archlinux just upgraded libpng 1.4.x to 1.5.8, and it appears to have broken nx-libs. Instead of direct struct-access, applications should be using the various png_get_xxx() and png_set_xxx() accessor functions, which have existed for almost as long as libpng itself. (Apps that compiled against libpng 1.4 without warnings about deprecated features should happily compile against 1.5, too.)" I don't see any warnings from my previous build logs with libpng 1.4.8, but since the compiler was given the option "-Wno-deprecated" I'm not sure that the warnings would have shown up anyway. And it does appear that the Pgn.cpp functions DecompressPngXY() are trying to access the png_info struct, which is now private in libpng 1.5.8. What do you think is the best way to fix this issue? Would an upstream bug report to the NX folks be likely to accomplish anything? I'm not sure how big a job it will be to patch all of the code in nx-libs that attempts to access png_info or png_struct.

Ok, finally I did make it. x2goclient and -server are running on Mageia and I will import the packages into the official repos on Monday (aka as soon as I am back from FOSDEM). I'm still having a problem on x2goagent (more on Monday), but using a workarround and nxagent is working fine. Oliver

Using x2go with on Ubuntu Server with Encrypted Home Folders

Hi All: We are trying to use x2go connected to a Ubuntu server "desktop user" account where we have encrypted the Home folder for that user. We can connect just fine, though we go through a couple of error screens we get to one where we can enter a password. We enter the user password and get in just fine. Q: is there a way to get directly to that log in screen and/or store the password locally so we can use the icon on the desktop feature? - There is an option/checkbox to "Try auto login (ssh-agent or default ssh key)" but we think that's not the answer. - Given that we can log in, we assume this isn't about using ssh keys with passwords, that the password in question is the user account/login one that is related to the encrypted Home folder. We searched through the user and dev archives, and apologize if this is already answered. Thanks!

X2goclient doesn't run Trinity

Hi, I run Trinity, the KDE3-fork, on one of my servers. When connecting to it with the NXclient, I set it to run the following custom command in fullscreen: /opt/trinity/bin/startkde and everything works as expected. I tried the same with the latest X2goclient, and it doesn't work. I can see the screen background with the logo for a few moments, then it closes again and returns me to the login window. I tried both the "custom command" as well as the "other desktop environment" options and supplied the same path. Neither works. This came as a bit of a (negative) surprise as I remember there was an X2goclient that came with a preset for Trinity, so there has been a time when it worked. To debug the issue, I decided to launch the console in both NXclient and X2goclient, and run the above command there. Here's what happens in X2go: [startkde] Starting startkde. libjpeg-turbo and NX/X2Go

Hi all, for Debian we have provided libjpeg-turbo on squeeze, wheezy and sid. From my point of view it is indeed not necessary to recompile NX to be used with libjpeg-turbo. People may correct me if that is not true. So for a running X2Go server and client you can drop in on squeeze: apt-get install libjpeg-turbo62 on wheezy, sid: apt-get install libjpeg-turbo8 And your host should then run with libjpeg-turbo instead of libjpeg. Please note, that this change affects every application on that system. So... no warranty given from our side. Hi there, this did cost us some pains, because a sshd was using port 6050, so even reinstalling x2goserver didn't solve any issues. x2goserver installs into /usr/lib on x86_64 system

Hi there, after I finally got nx to build on Mageia, I'm now working on x2goserver. I already had to patch the Makefiles because of a few problems: - they try to install several files directly into /etc - they try to set owner and group to root Since you don't build rpm packages as root, that doesn't work. When I'm done, I will send you my patches so you can look into them. But now to my real problem: There's quite a list of files installed into /usr/lib instead of /usr/lib64, where they should be located. Now the question is, will it break anything, when I patch the Makefiles to install them into the correct dir? RPMs for RH6

Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to x2go, but I'm trying to package X2Go Client & Server for RedHat6 and I have the following suggestion/problem: Server: it's hard to package the X2GO Server as RPM because some paths (/etc/x2go) are hardcoded into the Makefiles and a "make PREFIX=/path install" still installs the files under /etc/x2go. Could anyone please change the Makefile so that the PREFIX option works? Client: in order to compile the client I downloaded the libssh-0.5.0-1 and libssh-devel-0.5.0-1 as RPMs and installed them (it's the same library as Debian's libssh-4, just a newer Version -- the one from Debian Squeeze is the version 0.4.5-3). The client basically works, but segfaults sometimes (not always) in "exception" cases, for example false authentication to the X2GO server. Question regarding command line options / portable mode

Hi List, since I can't find anything in the Wiki nor in the man pages of the linux x2goclient: Is there a place where I can find documentation regarding the command line options of x2goclient (especially the Microsoft Windows version)? I noticed there's an option --portable, which seems to store the session configuration in a "sessions" text file, just like the linux version does by default (the MS Windows default is to store it in the registry). Is there any way to influence where this sessions file is stored, or a way to import a sessions file into the registry? Will x2goclient crash if this file is read-only? (I'm thinking of storing it on a network share that is read-only) That would make a mass roll-out so much easier. Also, does the Windows x2goclient *installer* offer any options that allow an automated roll-out, something like /default (install to default locations with all the default options) and /quiet (do not present any pop-ups, just install)? Hi all, recently there has been some noise about X2Go re-working its NX code base. Indeed some quite interesting things have been going on recently around NX and X2Go. During the last weeks we have completely reworked the way we build NX libraries. This has fixed a lot of instability problems people had recently (summer/autumn 2011) already. During this last week we set up the X2Go subproject ,,NX (redistributed)'' (aka nx-libs.git on http://git.x2go.org) The X2Go project's developers (esp. Mike and Reinhard, supported by Alex and Heinz) have decided to re-distribute NX sources as one big tarball that builds with GNU make and contains patches not accepted by NoMachine themselves. The building of the tarball with GNU make already works fine, the ,,make install'' still needs more work. John Williams has agreed to contribute on that (thanks for that!!!). @John: please note that I have uploaded a new tarball containing the functionality described below ;-): http://code.x2go.org/releases/source/nx-libs/nx-libs_3.5.0.5-full.tar.gz During the last days now, we have achieved something that so far has hardly been imaginable (at least to me). If nxagent is executed unter the name of x2goagent, the X2GO branding gets activated within nxagent. Also: ,,NX (redistributed)'' is fully FreeNX compliant. Install ,,NX (redistributed)'' from the X2Go package archives and add FreeNX (Ubuntu Launchpad) on top of that. FreeNX and X2Go can now again be installed parallely on the same system. Interesting for migrations or client diversity. Hi! the postinstallation script for the x2goserver (ubuntu) has the following problem: it checks if /var/lib/x2go/x2go_sessions exists, and if not, calls x2godbadmin --createdb. This is not good, because it sometimes breaks upgrades of the package when using a remote postgresql: The postgresdb is configured and accessible but there is no /var/lib/x2go/x2go_sessions because it isn't needed. Then when you upgrade, it calls x2godbadmin --createdb and overwrites the remote postgres-sql-db.. I think it should test if postgres is used, and if so, should never do anything on its own with the db. Users who use the postgres-db anyhow know what they are doing and could do some steps more. I had been using libjpeg-turbo with x2go for well over a year now. Libjpeg-turbo is pending for Debian sid inclusion: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=612341 As we do not have plans to ship libjpeg-turbo within the X2Go repository currently, I guess we will have to wait for distro inclusion in Debian/Ubuntu. With other distros that already have libjpeg8 (optionally) replaced by libjpeg-turbo, it should be possible to compile NX (redistributed) against the faster libary. There also is another NX related project on git.ethersoft.ru that provides NX with libjpeg-turbo. However, that repos only builds NX for FreeNX. OpenNX/neatx and X2go

Hi, I have try to compare on one server UBUNTU which I have installed neatx and x2go server. When I have use OpenNX/Linux with neatx server it is look faster working that x2goclient/Linux with x2goserver. Anybody try to compare neatx with x2goserver ? In both I have use modem link and 16m-jpeg-9 and LXDE. I would like switch to x2goserver because is developed. neatx is use SSL encryption all traffic and I can not switch off in neatx but I thnik if I will switch off SSL encryption in neatx on my modem link it will be faster but without this netax with opennx client working faster than x2go. I do not know reason x2go is slower than neatx. I have disabled sound/file share Regards Waldek

KDE applications causing session crash with latest builds

Hi list, after upgrading to the latest Debian packages, I can no longer run KDE applications in rootless mode - neither with NX nor with X2Go. Steps to reproduce: 1. Now it seems you've "crossported" the bug to X2Go. :-( I have been in contact with Mike Gabriel regarding this issue, he suggests debugging the issue by stepping through the patches one by one. However, he won't get around to doing that in the next two weeks, and the last time I touched C code was 10 years ago and not much more than "hello world" stuff, so it's unlikely that I'll be able to find the reason myself. Anyone willing and able to assist? To Whom It May Concern: We are trying to evaluate the x2go plugin (hope to evaluate the thin client option soon too), and are having some trouble. Can anyone help? Questions - is the plugin development/support still active? - we assume you need to set up the server as a web server with the code described on the x2go site, and install the plugin on the client side: is that true? - we assume the primary code from the http://www.x2go.org/wiki:components:x2goplugin#a_complete_website_example goes in the home page/index.html file: is that right? - when we surf to the site, we get... x2goplugin This website will offer you a plugin named "x2goplugin". With the installed plugin you'll be able to start or recover a session running on a x2goserver. The server needs to be preconfigured. To get more information about what x2go is, please visit http://www.x2go.org. ...this is part of the example code we used shown below, but that's as far as we go and link just takes us back to the main site. We don't see a way to have the site install the plugin. - when we try to download the plugin in the client (again, we assume the plugin is necessary on the client browser) from http://plugin.x2go.org we get a missing page...same with the link on plugin example page link .... would guess this is just about the state of the web site change... ...but is there somewhere where we can download the plugin? Could someone email it if the site will be under construction for a while? - lastly, when the documentation says you can leave the user name blank, does that mean "user=" like we have it shown below? They support the standard configure, make, make install commands for installing everything that I thought might be useful. You can also use autoconf to create a new configure script from configure.ac, if you wish. I'm not very experiences with autoconf, so my configuration is fairly basic. It is probably missing a lot of checks that would be good, and may have some included that it should not. But it works, and I think it is better than nothing, which is what the package current has. Feel free to make any changes you want before you add these files to the package. x2goagent/nxagent crashes reintroduced :-(

Hi Alex, Reinhard, the latest nx-libs.git 3.5.0.6 seems to reintroduce the x2goagent crashes again we observed earlier. The problem has also already been re-introduced with nx-libs.git 3.5.0.2 and a separate x2goagent (with its own nx-X11 source tree). We will have to check the patches being re-introduced between 3.5.0.0 and 3.5.0.2. I wil also rebuild nx-libs packages with state of commit http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=nx-libs.git;a=commitdiff;h=aa166550657f3a928f… as this one was definitely the last working/stable state. Simple test: connect from client A -> session A: X2Go server A -> session B: X2Go server B. On session termination of session B (on server B), the session A on server A crashes. PyHoca-GUI 'NoneType' is not iterable

(Apologies in advance if there is a non-dev bug reporting system. I didn't find one on a quick scan and just thought I'd send this to be helpful. Thanks for x2go ... it's shaping up as a nice piece of work!) Some change on the nightly PPA between yesterday and today killed my x2go setup. It's a repeatable bug. My x2go client runs on a heavily tweaked Ubuntu Lucid 64-bit box. It accesses an x2go server running on a vanilla Oneiric 64-bit box. This setup was working yesterday and has not been modified. But now, running pyhoca-gui after an apt-get upgrade, an x2go session authorizes with no problem but cannot launch a session. Logs follow. My very uninformed guess is that the issue is Python 2.7-specific expectations in pyhoca-gui, but that's probably just me being cynical :-) Lucid is constrained to run Python 2.6 and my pyhoca is not in a virtualenv, while my Oneiric is running Python 2.7. I'll switch to using the -stable distro for now, and that will no doubt tide me over. Please let me know if you'd like me to run tests or clarify anything. Two questions: 1) What is the current status of the great nx-libs rework that was mentioned last November? Is there any solution to building nxcomp, nxcompext, and nxcompshad against the NX libraries rather than the X libraries? (If I have that right?) 2) Why am I getting a compile error when I try to build nx-X11 from the source tarballs at http://code.x2go.org/releases/source/nx-libs/ ? I downloaded all of the tarballs from nx-libs: nx-X11, nxagent, nxauth, nxcomp, nxcompext, nxcompshad, nxproxy I expanded them all into the same directory (nxagent and nxauth actually installed into a subdirectory of nx-X11), then I changed into the nx-X11 directory and ran "make World". In the same portion of the build log shown above for the tarballs, the git build is trying to compile NXwindow.c. So it looks like something is quite different in the git nx-libs. Did someone add or change some header files or include statements? Did I do something wrong? Or is there a problem with the source tarballs? Untrusted library search path in x2gostartagent bash script

Hi, There is an untrusted library search path vulnerability in x2gostartagent. Lines 188,189 in /usr/bin/x2gostartagent in the Ubuntu PPA package say: LD_LIBRARY_PATH="${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}:${X2GO_LIB}" export LD_LIBRARY_PATH If one of these are empty, then there will be an empty addendum to LD_LIBRARY_PATH, which will make ld search for libraries in the current working directory. Programs xauth, x2goserver-run-extensions and x2gofeature (and the programs further spawned by them, including perl, basename, find, grep, sort, bash etc.) are launched with this insecure LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Thus, the current working directory will be searched for shared libraries when this command is launched. Usually, x2gostartagent is launched over ssh, and the current working directory will be the user's home directory. The problem is that if a user is tricked into downloading a malicious library off the Internet and saves it into his home directory, this malicious library will be loaded and can take control of the user's process when an x2go session is launched. The fix is simply to check if either LD_LIBRARY_PATH or X2GO_LIB are empty. I am pasting the patch below. Please keep me updated on this issue. Aber i type in my username and password it shown "connecting" and the x2go client freezes and after some time (more or less a minute) the x2go window is closed and a mac system message says the application was closed and i can show the detail information of the problem or send a report to apple. SOLUTION: A generic way to print to cheap GDI-only printers (not only with X2Go)

Hi List, since I've had issues getting client-side printing to work (which I need for low-budget printers that don't support PCL/PS), I built my own work-around. The following is an explanation on how to turn every printer that is connected to a Windows client into a printer that can be accessed with CUPS, regardless of the print protocol it speaks. IOW: If it can print from Windows, it can now print from CUPS as well, as long as it's connected to a Windows box. The advantage over using the X2Go built-in solution is that you don't even need a running X2Go client on the particular box - say, in a small two-person office with only one (low-budget inkjet) color printer, with the X2Go user wanting to print something in color, but the pritner is connected to the other machine, and the co-worker currently isn't using X2Go. Requirements: On the client computer: * RedMon - http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/redmon/ * Sumatra PDF viewer - https://kjkpub.s3.amazonaws.com/sumatrapdf/rel/SumatraPDF-1.9-install.exe * fixed IP or DNS entry, proper gateway setting if server and client are located in different networks * Windows 2K or XP, and installation media / extracted service pack files OR Windows Vista / 7 *and lots of patience* On the server: Any recent CUPS server with CUPS-PDF installed --------------- Preparing the Server: --------------------- Log in as root (or run this prefixed with sudo) lpadmin -p "CLIENTNAMEHERE_LPD" -v "lpd://CLIENTDNSNAMEORIPHERE/PDFQueue" -D "Generic Printer" -L "CLIENTNAMEHERE" -E -m "lsb/usr/cups-pdf/CUPS-PDF.ppd" (everything on one line, substitute clientname and IP where required) --------------- Preparing the Client (Windows 2K/XP): ------------------------------------- 1) Go to Control Panel/Software, Windows Components and install the LPD Print Service (this may require you to insert installation media or point Windows to the folder with the extracted service pack files) 2) Check the Services - The TCP/IP-Print Service should be running and set to start automatically - if not, change it so it does. 3) Download and install RedMon (see above - it's available in several languages, choose the one that suits you best) Be sure to unzip all the files to %ProgramFiles%\RedMon before installing - redmon doesn't do that by itself when you install it, and we need some files from that directory later on 4) Download and install Sumatra PDF. Do not set it as your default PDF viewer unless this is really what you want. Most users will prefer to use Adobe Reader as the default viewer. 5) Install a new printer: Local Printer, do not scan for PnP devices Create New Port, Redirected Port, RPT1, Manufacturer: Generic*, Type: Generic/Text Only, Name: "PDFQueue". Double-check that it is not set as the standard printer (or you will create an infinite spooler loop), do not share it, and do not print a test page. *If you can't find "Generic" or "Standard", press "Windows Update", if that still doesn't help, pick a common printer model like a HP Color LaserJet. 6) Double-Click the newly created printer Go to Properties, and pick the "Ports" tab. 7) Configure the RPT1: port. Choose Redirection Program: C:\Program Files\Redmon\redrun.exe "Program handles Output" Run: "Hidden" C:\Program Files\SumatraPDF\SumatraPDF.exe -print-to-default -exit-on-print %1 Note that you have to type the language-specific path in *both fields*, say, "C:\Programme\" on a German Windows - substituting %programfiles% doesn't work. 8) add a Firewall exception for Port 515 (may or may not be necessary - if your CUPS server complains that it can't connect and keeps retrying, try the firewall rule) --------------- Preparing the Client (Windows Vista/7 - not for the faint of heart): -------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Go to Control Panel/Software, Windows Components and install the LPD Print Service (this may require you to insert installation media or point Windows to the folder with the extracted service pack files) 2) Check the Services - The TCP/IP-Print Service should be running and set to start automatically - if not, change it so it does. 3) Download and install RedMon (see above - it's available in several languages, choose the one that suits you best) Be sure to unzip all the files to C:\Program Files\RedMon before installing - redmon doesn't do that by itself when you install it, and we need some files from that directory later on 4) Download and install Sumatra PDF. Double-check that it is not set as the standard printer (or you will create an infinite spooler loop), do not share it, and do not print a test page. Attention users of Windows Vista or Windows 7: Do *not* double-click on the newly created printer, rather, double-click the printer named "Microsoft XPS Document Writer". (There is no way to open the PDFQueue printer with admin privileges, and attempting any change to the RedMon settings will result in an error message when pressing OK/Apply) 6) Click on "Printer", "Open as Administrator", then click on "Printer" again, select "Properties", and pick the "Ports" tab. 7) Configure the RPT1: port. Choose Redirection Program: C:\Program Files\Redmon\redrun.exe "Program handles Output" Run: "Hidden" C:\Program Files\SumatraPDF\SumatraPDF.exe -print-to-default -exit-on-print %1 Attention users of Windows Vista or Windows 7: Be sure to re-select "XPSPort:" for the "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" after you're done (or you will disrupt printing to this printer). 8) In contrast to the Windows XP installation, I did not have to change firewall settings. YMMV. --------------- Test: Printing to the CLIENTNAMEHERE_LPD printer should result in a spool file ending up in the PDFQueue on the client, which disappears again shortly after, another spool file in the queue of your default printer on the client, which also dissapears again shortly after, and a print job coming out of your default printer. --------------- Comments welcome, and if somebody decides *where* in our wiki this should go, I'll be happy to add it there with proper formatting. I tried adding the printer via the CUPS web interface, and also via the commandline (lpadmin -p "Virtual_X2GO_Printer" -v "cups-x2go:/" -D "Virtual X2GO Printer" -L "local workstation printer" -E -m "lsb/usr/cups-x2go/CUPS-X2GO.ppd"), to see if it makes a difference - it does not. On the client side (Windows 7 Home Premium, German, 32-bit) I installed X2Go Client V. 3.99.0.2. I enabled client-side printing in the session settings, and configured the local default printer in the X2Go Client general settings. I also tried the other options like having the PDF shown instead, or the "save PDF file" option. Nothing happens when I try to print (I tried to print a test page from the CUPS web interface as well as a web page from the browser). CUPS claims to have processed the job, but it goes nowhere. I also tried a Windows XP SP3, German, 32-bit client, with the same settings - same result. :-( Does Client-side printing only work with full desktop sessions? (I only tried it with a single application - the web browser - as I don't have a full DE installed on that server.) What do I have to do to get this working? Kind Regards, Stefan
