x2goclient 3.99.2.0 introduces excessive client logging

Hello, since updating to 3.99.2.0 on OSX the log database is flooded with x2go.client debug log messages while having a session connected. As a side effect specific operations like opening a new terminal window are slowed down and .asl log files have to be cleared out manually from /private/var/log/asl on a very regular basis. 3.99.1.0-rc2 did not show this behaviour and I cannot find any client side setting to lower the log level. Is it possible to change the client log level? Thank you, Marco

Hi Devs (esp. Alex and Mike), this topic has popped up before, but it seems no one is really tackling this (or did I just miss the relevant posts?): Forwarding of USB devices from the guest to the host. Our commercial competitors offer solutions to forward, say, a USB card reader to the host, so digital signatures can be performed on a (windows) terminal server. How hard would it be to add this feature to X2Go (especially when working with a Windows client)? Is it a difficult task, or simply a matter of "nobody got around to coding this yet"? -Stefan

Support for PuTTY private key files / built-in ssh-agent?

Hi Devs, would it be possible to integrate support (1) for PuTTY-style ssh private key files (*.ppk) into the X2Go client, or (2) to run a ssh-agent (maybe from cygwin, or copied from PuTTY's "pageant.exe") *within* the X2Go client, so other applications can authenticate with the same key? PuTTY's license does allow copying their code into GPLed code, as it seems. The idea behind (2) this is that the X2Go client on Windows would be able to provide authentication information to WinSCP and similar tools. (1) would simply make life easier for users that already have a private key stored in PuTTY's format. At present they either have to run PuTTYgen to convert it into the format X2Go client understands, or run pageant.exe, PuTTY's ssh agent. -Stefan

I just tried to add ,,-nolisten tcp'' to the x2goagent startup command in x2gostartagent and it works (I can't see a difference except the TCP ports being closed). I also tested with desktop sharing (shadow sessions). Patch to Fix x2goagent / nxagent With New LibCairo

I don't know what the current patch status is for fixing nxagent with the new libcairo (1.12.1+ I believe), but eventually I got tired of waiting and created my own patches for nxagent/x2goagent. Most of the fixes were required because the render extension now allows (and libcairo uses) null source drawables (for gradients etc), null masks and null mask drawables. This change creates a bit of a logic mess in the code. Previous patches to the code tried to account for all of the possibilities, but fell a little short. Consider this an alpha-quality patch. I've only tested it in KDE while running GTK applications. All my favorite GTK apps like Firefox, Emacs, rox-filer and all my other GTK apps that were broken are now working just fine. (Though I'm getting only the standard GTK look and feel - don't know if that's caused by anything I've done.) Could someone test this under Gnome? Also, since I'm not primarily an X software engineer I'd like a specialist to take a look at it. The fix is a little crude. I just attached to the x2goagent process and fixed the lines that caused segfaults. (About 10 of them). I also rewrote one of the macros in Pixels.h into a local subroutine in Render.c. It had a bug in it and complex macro bugs are a PITA to debug in gdb (or anything else really). The macro is only used in one place and although the code in the macro is called pretty often, it's very likely that the compiler would inline it anyway. The rewrite increases readability by a large factor. A better patch could be created by someone that understands nxagent and X much better. The render extension code receives render ops from X client programs. The render ops can contain any combination of picture source, picture destination and picture mask. It's apparently legal to send render ops with combinations of null picture source drawables, picture masks and picture mask drawables. A better way to patch this would be to simply perform a return on all the illegal combinations of null parameters for the render ops. That way you wouldn't have to keep re-checking the parameter values. So anyway, here it is. I appreciate it if someone out there would test it and let me know. Also if anyone knows of the X docs which discuss null picture sources and masks in the render extension I'd be glad to create a cleaner patch that conforms to the stands. Broken glyphs and icons after suspending a session

Hello x2go dev team, as I was looking for an alternative on NX nomachine, because it was broken with the last Cairo 1.12 update, I found your x2go solution, which is great. So as it bases on the same libraries than the original nomachine, you had the same issues - with rendering to undrawable objects, the whole nxagent crashes because of SEGV. With the patch of Jan (thanks to) you committed to the master branch today, I compiled another nxagent. Actually it worked fine, but after suspending and reconnecting to a session, some graphical objects get broken... All characters/fonts that has been rendered on the screen prior the suspension, are gone. (See Screenshots the link below). Creating new text by starting applications is ok, as long as the characters has not been rendered in the session before. I thought it might be problem with a kind of glyph cache of the X session (ubuntu/x86 x2goclient). But I found one case, where additionally to the text, all icons are gone also, which was with an debian/x64 x2goclient... (Difference can be seen on screenshots) Might it have to do something with the patch from today, that could filter out to much rendering? Or is this issue known from somewhere else? Steps to reproduce (Windows client): - Configure at least one session in x2goclient - In the general configuration menu, check ALL the boxes related to minimizing the application to a Notification Area icon - Click on the session card, do NOT enter a password, do NOT click OK - Instead, click the "minimize" icon - X2Go icon appears in Notification Area AND in taskbar - Clicking on the X2Go entry in the taskbar returns a broken window (frame with "screencapture" of previous screen content) -Stefan

bevor meine ankunft am 1. july 2012 in der schweiz Konzept : solar und Computer Digital gap zwischen word und sued , das war und bleibt der Hauptgrund des "linux friends " Projekt , gibt es nicht nur zwischen nord und Süd , sondern in süd selbst , nämlich zwischen Stadt und Land . In ländlichen Gebiet gibt es aber kein Anschluss an Elektrizität Netzwerk . Da ist die solar Technologie ideal : ausser die Tatsache dass diese Energie sauber , es kann ein Beitrag für die allgemeine Entwicklung der Region sein . Wie die Straßen eine Voraussetzung fuer die Entwicklung einer Region kann die Information Technologie der Anschluss an der Autobahnen der Informationen ermöglichen und somit auch eine Voraussetzung für die Entwicklung einer Region werden . Was wir brauchen : eine verlässliche Technologie , die billig genug ist , sonst ist sie nicht fuer alle , low Power , um die Computer mit solar betreiben zu können . Solar Anlage Wir installieren solar für Licht und wir haben schon einigen aufgebaut und die nachfrage ist groß . Jetzt geht es darum Computer mit solar zum laufen bringen . Die solar Anlagen sind nicht mehr so teuer , ökologisch . Beispiel : ein panel von uns liefert 120 Watt . ZielSetzung : mit 2 panel (240 Watt ) , ein. Netzwerk von 5 Computer Arbeit Plätze machen . Energie Berechnung Server : 20 Watt Client : 4 x 5 = 20 Watt Monitor 5 x 20 = 100 Watt switch 10 Watt Total : 150 Watt wenn die Computer von 9 Uhr bis 9 Uhr Abend mit 3 stunden pause so gibt 9 x 150 = 1350 Watt Bei einem durchschnitt von 6 stunden voll ladung liefert solar Anlage 6 x 240 =1440 Watt Das sind unsere Testdaten , es muss noch weiter getestet werden , speziell in der regenzeit . Computer Wegen Energie , müssen wir heute eher mit neuem Material arbeiten, da die alten Computer zuviel Energie brauchen Solar Technologie ist nicht mehr "die Hürde " : es ist vorhanden , nicht mehr so teuer . Und es ist die beste , ökologischste Lösung für die Dörfer , die nicht am Elektrizität netz verbunden sind. Solar und Computer ? Die erste Huerde , die aber leicht zu überwinden ist . Solar liefert uns 12 Volt . Wenn wir nicht diese Spannung zuerst auf 220 Volt hochfahren , sollten wir besser mit 12 Volt arbeiten . Es gibt mehr 12 Volt computer auf dem Markt . Die zweite Hürde , die aber weniger leicht zu uerberwinden ist : die Energie Frage . Die üblichen Computer sind nicht gut geeignet , da sie zuviel Energie brauchen , die alten sowieso . Es gibt aber mehr und mehr low Power Computer . Wir benutzen seit Jahren 5 Watt Computer als thin Client und es funktioniert sehr gut . Wir können sie auch als " stand alone " maschine mit debian lxde betreiben . Es konnte als Notlösung gebraucht werden auf, der Server nicht funktioniert . Wenn wir aber weiterhin das Konzept Server Client benutzen wollen , was ich als sehr vernünftig betrachte , müssen wir auch low Power Server finden . Low Power Server Unsere Erfahrungen Es gibt dual core Atom Prozessor sie können bis 10 Client ertragen . Intel arbeiten gut und sind billig 80-90 $ Wir haben Amd zacate boards im Einsatz , sie sind nicht stabil , mit 8 gb ram hören sie plötzlich auf zu arbeiten , ohne ersichtlichen Grund . andere erfahrungen? 12 Volt Speisung wir haben**12 Volt speisung , es funktioniert , es kostet aber um die 35 Dollar , was im Verhältnis zu den 80 $ der Intel Board viel ist . Am besten wäre wenn 12 Volt Board hätten , die direkt 12 Volt speisung sparen , wie die pcengines Computer . Zum testen waere die " arm " Prozessor . Clients Low Power Client gibt es schon viele . Wie schon erwähnt , benutzen wir seit Jahren pcengines alix Board ,die 5 Watt konsumieren und die speisung ist 12 Volt also ideal ? Fast , nachteile : es ist mit geode cpu und es wird in ltsp zum Beispiel nicht mehr unterstützt . Es gibt andere Computer , die als thin Client dienen konnten , mit preisen um die als 30 $ wie tony uns gemeldet hat . In china gibt andere mit ähnlichen preisen . Aber ich konnte nicht testen . Ein anderen Ansatz waere ohne Computer nur mit Graphik Karten auf Server . Ein. Freund hat getestet , war aber nicht zufrieden . Ist es mit hdmi Anschluss besser ? Das Problem sind die Monitor , sie konsumieren mehr Energie als der Computer . Die sparsamen verbrauchen 15 Watt und sie sind teuerer als die Computers . Lösung : schwarz weiss Monitor wie bei ersten e-book ? der Energie Konsum wäre sehr gut , aber müsste getestet werden werden. GNOME vs. Unity on Ubuntu precise

Hi all, with Ubuntu precise launching an X2Go session named ,,GNOME'' results in a UNITY-2D desktop session. First thing: it is nice to have Unity available via X2Go. Second thing: it is a PITA that starting ,,gnome-session'' ends up with the UNITY shell. If we say GNOME in the client we should end up with GNOME(3). @devs: ------ Currently, the client-side translates the session profile <command> (GNOME, KDE, ...) into the server-side command (gnome-session, startkde). For single applications this translation is done within x2goruncommand. I would like to suggest to move this translation into x2goruncommand completely. Allowing the server-side to detect what actual command has to be executed for ,,GNOME'' or ,,KDE'' or <OTHER> will be much more handy than making the client-side aware of the server's operating system, shell, Xsession files, etc. Your opinions, please!!! Hi Alex, hi devs, do I see it right that currently published applications lack xinerama support? LD_LIBRARY_PATH is not set to /usr/lib/nx/X11/Xinerama for applications launched as pub apps. My vote here would be to introduce a server-side script that calls the published application. In this script we then can set any env variable needed (like LD_LIBRARY_PATH) before the published application starts. I disrecommend setting such variables within the application call on the client-side. Opinions? Hi All: We've seen some posts about trying to use x2go to connect into a chroot environment (e.g., http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.terminal-server.x2go.user/516) but could not determine if anyone had successfully found a way to make this work. Our understanding is we can set up an entire Ubuntu Desktop environment inside of chroot. Could we also install x2go server inside of this environment and connect via x2go? I am trying to use a FreeRDP remoteapp session inside of an x2go session. I x2goclient into remote ubuntu 12.04 server. On that ubuntu server I try to execute a Window's 2008 server's RemoteApp's that I have setup using a .sh script I built output displayed is: * * *$ ./run-remoteapp.sh loading plugin /usr/lib/freerdp/rail.so connected to 23.21.26.148.3389 X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 1 (X_CreateWindow) Serial number of failed request: 36 Current serial number in output stream: 40* I did a google search and saw that this had been reported about 2 months ago and *Oleksandr Shneyder* had found the cause and built a "patch" which you can read about here: https://github.com/FreeRDP/FreeRDP/issues/465 Did this patch ever get applied to the newer x2go server/client as it seems the problem still exists? x2goclient feature request: Informational "Bubble" in Tray

Hi Alex, I would like to suggest a feature. Current situation: When x2goclient is set to minimize to the tray, and an automatic logon (--hide and a Public SSH key/active Agent) is performed, x2goclient goes straight to the tray. Combine that with a Published Application session, and you have no way of telling when the applications are available. The only way to tell the different stages of the login apart is by repeated right-clicking on the icon and looking at the available menu items (all greyed out, all but topmost item greyed out, all available). Would it be possible to add a bubble to the tray icon that displays "Connecting to X2Go server..." (or maybe even mention the session name), and a "Connection established!" once the connection has been established and the list of published applications has been downloaded to the client? -Stefan

Hi list, I'd like to start a quick and informal poll: From what I can tell, Mac OS X 10.5 is no longer supported by Apple (i.e. no new security fixes will be provided etc.). Miha is currently developing on Mac OS X 10.6, and cross-checking on my Mac Mini with Mac OS X 10.5 to see if everything works there, too. At present, we do not seem to have anybody developing/checking on Mac OS 10.7, which is the current Mac OS X release. If we could agree on dropping support for 10.5, I would upgrade my Mac Mini to 10.7, or, should it turn out to be too slow for 10.7, we might arrange for Miha to upgrade his Mac to 10.7 and I'd upgrade to 10.6. Of course, if the majority of our Mac users is still on 10.5, we'd shoot ourselves in the foot by dropping support for it. So, please speak up and let us know which version you are using, and in what numbers (especially those of you offering commercial support to clients on Mac OS X)! -Stefan

Hello to all, As by now, Fedora 17 Beta comes with default DE, gnome-shell 3.4, with no hardware acceleration support. You can run Fedora inside a virtual machine and gnome-shell will run without issues... Now, I know that Fedora is not supported by x2go, but still, probably other distributions will follow and will offer the same. Hi devs, due to the current APT transition in Debian: http://release.debian.org/transitions/html/apt.html The X2Go packaging system for Debian can currently not be used on japsand.x2go.org. Reason for this probably is an attempted rebuilt of packaging chroot while this transition was already in process. (Said in short: Mike's fault!). I can still build clean chroot packages locally on my notebook, so while this unpleasant state continues, please let me know whenever you need a package rebuild. Dear all, The X2Go Project is proud to announce two new X2Go component releases: - x2goserver (3.1.1.0) - x2goclient (3.99.2.0) The new packages will be available in our stable repositories (Debian, Ubuntu) within the next 24h. The windows and Mac OS versions of x2goclient will probably be available tomorrow, as well. (PING: @Mihai, @Oleksandr). The Windows binary may get delay a little longer, as we are currently migrating the Windows development machine to another hoster, so we have to ask for your patience here. Hi, This is for Google. I had this error: The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session. This may be due to the wrong authentication credentials passed to the server. x2goserver not honoring Xsession?

Hi! When I start a X2go Single application (like, say a urxvt) it is missing things like my .Xresources and no gpg/ssh agent is present. next x2goclient release / translation work in progress

Hi All, first... just for the record, on the x2go-i18n list we are currently discussing pulling the original English text phrases in X2Go Client code straight. I'd say that the next X2Go Client release will be delayed, till the English phrases have been updated. Unfortunately, this also means extra work of all translators, once the English originals have been fixed/updated. secone... our current goal for the next release... The current goal for x2goclient 3.99.2.1 is that these languages will be available (with complete translation): German Swedish Norwegian (Bokmal) Russian Translations in prep are: French Translations available, but not complete, are: Trad. Chinese (PING@Arlo) As we have Dutch and Spanish for PyHoca-GUI, but not for X2Go Client... Are those translators willing to take over translation work for X2Go Client, as well??? Or anyone else? Hi Alex, would it be possible to allow a username override via command line option? Currently, --user is only supported in LDAP mode. It might be a nice feature to provide the option to specify a username on the command line, overriding the username in the sessions file. That way, one could create desktop icons (at least on Windows, but probably also on *nix) which pass the user name along, as in (for Windows): x2goclient.exe --portable --user="%USERNAME%" --session-conf="\\server\share\sessions" --session="Default" --home="%USERPROFILE%" %USERNAME% and %USERPROFILE% are system variables on Windows, similar to $USER and $HOME on *nix. Assuming your user names are the same on Windows and on the x2go server, this allows for one central sessions file that still automatically picks the right user name. Sadly, this feature doesn't help me, because I'm in the unlucky position that user names are different between Windows and *nix, but maybe some other users out there could use this feature... My workaround will probably be something along the lines of x2goclient.exe --portable --session-conf="\\server\share\sessions.%USERNAME%" --session="Default" --home="%USERPROFILE%" which means I will have to keep a seperate sessions file for each user, but at least I can clone it from a template. -Stefan

Mac OS X GUI - not connecting

I start the new 3.99.1 r2 release and the gui will not connect. The last status shown ist "connecting" but the nx log in the detail window will not showed. libssh, nagle, and performance issues

Hello, all. Since moving to the newer clients using libssh, I've noticed what appears to be a performance degradation. It smells like Nagle coalescing packets, e.g., most of the screen will paint, then it will pause a moment, and then the rest will paint. Is there any chance we have neglected to disable Nagle when invoking libssh? Windows X2Go client: strange entry in settings file/registry

Hi, I'm seeing the following on Windows: .x2goclient\settings and the corresponding registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Obviously Nice\x2goclient\settings contain "xexec=C:\\program files\\vcxsrv\\vcxsrv.exe" What's weird about this is that vcxsrv is not stored there, as I'm running the client from a mapped network drive. The vcxserv directory under C:\Program Files doesn't exist, and an ordinary user doesn't have write permissions there, so if x2goclient would create this folder during its run, it should display the UAC prompt, which it doesn't - so I think it is safe to assume that it doesn't attempt to create this folder. So what is this entry good for? -Stefan

x2goclient crashing

Hi, I have a "little" problem. I built x2goclient, the nx-libs and x2goserver from the SOURCES and it does work, when client and server are running on the same computer. But x2goclient crashes, as soon as it runs on a different one, after showing a popup window, telling me the server reset the connection. Is there any one having an idea, why that is the case?
