Hi all, those of you you have been following the commits on X2Go server (x2goserver.git) these days, will have noticed that the commit diffs are quite massive. I am currently restructuring the whole x2goserver project and I am migrating the whole Perl code into a proper Perl API (X2Go::Server). Main reason: I need quite a few of the X2Go server-side commands for a proper implementation of a Perl based X2Go session broker. And instead of having to install the server packages on hosts that do not necessarily have to be an X2Go server, I rather prefer to have the Perl API installable via separate packages. So, the Debian/Ubuntu users of X2Go will notice that the x2goserver package will not upgrade on ,,apt-get upgrade'' (if the nightly repos is in your APT sources). This is because it depends on new packages yet to be installed on your X2Go server system (libx2go-*-perl). Currently, I want to encourage you staying away from the x2goserver* packages in the nightly builds, they may be a little buggy, although I always intend to have a working Git master branch at the end of the day. I'll give notice when the X2Go::Server Perl package transition is fully complete (probably by the end of the week). We're going to spend a bit more time trying to get single node to work, as figure that may come in handy...but think your suggestion is going to be the way for us to go. 3) John's Response "Does the CUPS server have rights to write to the client's spool directory? Good luck - John" Hi John - how are you? Good question...spent some time trying to check by comparing server where we connect directly to the x2go server vs. x2go running on a Vserver guest including on both: /tmp/.x2go-user1/spool/C-user1-50-1347811312_stDGNOME_dp24 (see below) /var/spool/cups Even if we (assuming no mistakes) make the permissions comparable on both the x2go to x2go server and the x2go to x2go server on Vserver guest on these folders, no joy. This may be the right track, though....a couple of observations/questions: a) On the box where we connect directly the x2go server (no vserver involved), in the .x2go folder for the user there is a healthy "spool" link - on the vserver example, this link exists but is broken (they both point at /tmp); Bertl at Vserver says this is OK. b) When we try to print, on the working x2goclient to x2goserver (again, no vserver), the /tmp/.x2go-user1/spool/C-user1-50-1347811312_stDGNOME_dp24 folder gets created along with the pdf for the print job. NOTE: this does not happen on the x2go client to x2go server on Vserver guest. I.e., no comparable folder is created. So this folder which we think gets generated on the fly, only gets generated on the x2go to x2go server (not the instance where we connect to the x2go server on the vserver guest). Q: would this be because of permissions? c) we get entries in the error_log on the x2go client to x2go server on Vserver guest of: E [16/Sep/2012:16:56:12 +0000] Unable to open listen socket for address ::1:631 - Address family not supported by protocol. E [16/Sep/2012:16:56:13 +0000] Unable to bind broadcast socket - Address already in use. Our understanding is that this has to do with IPv6 not working or being set up. However, when we think we disabled IPv6 using "echo 'blacklist ipv6' >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist" the errors disappear but we still can't print. Does this matter? We also tried adding some entries to /etc/cups/cupsd.conf like: Allow from 127.0.0.1 Allow from 192.168.1.0/24 #your ip area. ...but nothing changed. As always, any suggestions appreciated. Package: x2goclient Severity: important Version: 3.99.3.0-prerelease Hi Alex, The current implementation of the http session broker code in X2Go Client has a task called setpass. From reading the code of the example session broker you sent me some weeks ago and from looking at the X2Go Client code in httpbrokerclient.cpp you do not request the user to enter his old password before changing it to a new password. From my perspective this is a no-go feature and it should be changed to something that also PAM and other passwd tools would do. Request the old passwd, set the new password (twice on the GUI). Even if there is an authentication happening prior to changing the password, the old password should be queried again, before a password change is possible. With x2gobroker in Git, I I would like to work in this direction and we will need an adaptation in X2Go Client sooner or later, I guess. Printing, x2go, Vservers

Hi All: We are trying to get x2go printing to work on a Debian Squeeze Vserver guest. 1) First, tested without Vserver - set up an x2go virtual printer on a box running x2go server; connected via an x2go client and could print (used steps from http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:components:printing) 2) On another box running Vserver, set up Vserver Guest and replicated our steps to set up x2go printing including a virtual x2go printer - used http://linux-vserver.org/Problematic_Programs#Cups_print_server which entails as we understand it disabling cups listening to loopback 127.0.0.1 on the host so it doesn't conflict with the Vserver, We also adding entries to ccapabilities (SECURE_MOUNT, SECURE_REMOUNT,BINARY_MOUNT) based on some other posts. When we connect via X2go from "client" netbook to Vserver guest, and try to print, we can see the x2go virtual printer and printing appears to happen, but fails (both trying settings to print directly to a printer and the pdf pop approach using evince). We're not sure how to troubleshoot this...we get an error in the Vserver cups error log "/var/log/cups/error_log" of "Unable to open listen socket for address ::1:631 - Address family not supported by protocol.) that we think is generated by the printing attempt.. This would seem to suggest some problem with sockets(?)... Suggestions appreciated! Any suggestions appreciated. PS: on the same Vserver guest, from x2go on the netbook client we can print to a network printer on the local Vserver guest/host network. But not the virtual x2go virtual printer.

The issue does not occur on Debian. Help with Printing

Hi All: We're hoping to get some help setting up printing for an x2go Debian squeeze server. FYI - with help, we got this going about a year ago and may be rusty but hopefully are not making old mistakes. SYMPTOM When we try to print from both an Ubuntu and Win7 machine, with the settings set to generate a pdf that can be printed to local printers, we see no x2o cups printers and neither evince on Ubuntu nor acrobat on Win7 start. SETUP We used the following link (the server is Debian squeeze): http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:x2go-repository-debian And did the following: apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keys.gnupg.net E1F958385BFE2B6E touch /etc/apt/sources.list.d/x2go.list (added to x2go.list) # X2Go Repository deb http://packages.x2go.org/debian squeeze main # X2Go Repository (sources) deb-src http://packages.x2go.org/debian squeeze main aptitude update aptitude install x2go-keyring && aptitude update aptitude search x2go (just to confirm packages had been installed) apt-get install x2goserver apt-get install x2goserver-xsession apt-get install x2goserver-printing apt-get install cups-x2go Cups was installed on the server as a result of the original install, so we made no changes there. We then generated ssh keys and created authorized_keys on the server, and moved id_rsa over to the clients. We also added x2gouser to sshd_config as an allowed user. >From there we could connect to the server via x2go client, but get the symptoms described above when we try to print. We checked groups, and there is both an x2user and x2goprint group. We tried adding our user to the x2goprint group, as well as x2goprint to our sshd_config as an allowed user with no change. Last time around, Alex updated the cups-x2go file which we assume is now part of the install and added "x2goprint ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/x2goprint" as a sudo entry. While we don't think Debian uses sudo the way Ubuntu does, we tried adding that line via Visudo and it made no difference. Is this a password/permissions issue? Maybe an iptables issue that is blocking sftp? We tried turning on file sharing in the GUI, but don't see the shared folder (we don't use file sharing, so we may not know what we are looking for). Our line in sshd_config for sftp is "Subsystem sftp /usr/lib/openssh/sftp-server". Any suggestions? Thanks! Ted

Suggestion regarding the new bug tracker

Hi list, I would suggest moving the bug reports to a new mailing list, if that is technically possible, say, one named x2go-bugs. That way, x2go-dev would be available for discussions regarding further development, "is-this-a-bug-or-am-I-doing-it-wrong", feature enhancements etc. and x2go-bugs would be for the bug-tracking grunt work. General ideas: - Every coder should subscribe to x2go-bugs as well. - Feature requests that have been agreed upon on x2go-dev should be CCed to x2go-bugs *by the coder willing to pick up the task* to avoid dupes. - Using two different lists will make it easier for list-newbies on x2go-dev that may not yet know how to properly set up a filter rule (central vs. individual administration). - Cross-posting bug reports from the bug-hunting mailing list to x2go-dev will be allowed/tolerated for a limited amount of time until we can be sure all the relevant developers are subscribed to x2go-bugs (or whatever name we'll end up with). - The automatic signature on x2go-dev should be amended with "before posting a bug, please check <web page of bugtracker or web page of x2go-bugs ML archive> if your problem is already known.". - Should an inexperienced list member post a new bug on x2go-dev, one of the more experienced list members (preferably one of the devs) should pick it up and reply with a message like "added to tracker, id is <foo>, see <link to Tracker/ML archive)>, thanks for reporting the issue." - A similar approach would be in order for already known bugs, WONTFIXes etc. Comments, anyone? -Stefan

Actually it worked fine, but after suspending and reconnecting to a session, some graphical objects get broken... All characters/fonts that has been rendered on the screen prior the suspension, are gone. (See Screenshots the link below). Creating new text by starting applications is ok, as long as the characters has not been rendered in the session before. I thought it might be problem with a kind of glyph cache of the X session (ubuntu/x86 x2goclient). But I found one case, where additionally to the text, all icons are gone also, which was with an debian/x64 x2goclient... (Difference can be seen on screenshots) Might it have to do something with the patch from today, that could filter out to much rendering? Or is this issue known from somewhere else? Audio support for X2Go-proxied RDP sessions

Hi all, I have just added audio support for RDP sessions proxied through X2Go. Packages for testing are currently building for Debian (heuler area), Ubuntu packages (ppa:x2go/ppa) will follow soon. To enable audio in X2Go-proxied RDP session you only have to enable pulseaudio in the client's session profile manager. It turns out that nxcomp* is built in such a way that the +x bit is missing after `make install`, which in turn leads to rpm not considering the file for dependency resolution. Hi List, hi Alex & Mike, we're seeing issues with Flash and Iceweasel when x2go or nx are part of the equation. A thorough description including videos showing the issue is available here: http://ionic.de/~sbaur/ (Hosting space kindly provided by Mihai Moldovan) Please fix this as soon as possible, running a 3.5 or 3.6 Firefox simply isn't safe any more, we need to be able to run at least the ESR version. /usr/sbin/x2gocleansessions does not properly quit

Dear X2Go folks, while looking into sessions which are still active on the server after the client was suspended and could not reconnect after resume, I noticed that `/usr/sbin/x2gocleansessions` seems to not properly exit. It is somehow run in background and does not exit. $ /usr/sbin/x2gocleansessions --help $ echo $? 0 $ /usr/sbin/x2gocleansessions --version $ echo $? 0 They are still listed by `ps aux | grep x2go`. @Alex: Fallback to PulseAudio 0.9.6 required (Windows)

Hi Alex, it seems we'll need to fall back to PulseAudio 0.9.6 as an intermediate measure. Please provide an updated package. Further testing with the latest releases of X2Go Client for Windows revealed an audio bug that we have been unable to examine closer. It manifests itself as choppy audio when using Adobe Flash (YouTube etc.). The latest non-affected client version that I can find on my systems is 3.99.2.0, which comes with PulseAudio 0.9.6. Strangely, I cannot find this release on http://code.x2go.org/releases/binary-win32/x2goclient/ any more. Mihai and I tried to narrow down the issue, but so far, it looks like we're not getting anywhere. There's a test matrix at http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:bugs:pulsetestmatrix?s[]=pulse that shows which combinations we tried. Adobe Flash (die! die! die!) seems to be the only application that is negatively affected by the newer PulseAudio release, however, as a lot of multimedia content on the web is still using Adobe Flash, we cannot simply ignore this issue. A while ago, Mihai also posted this issue to the PulseAudio mailing list (http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/pulseaudio-discuss/2012-June/013844.h…) but nobody replied there. So until we can get the attention of the PulseAudio devs, falling back to PulseAudio 0.9.6 seems to be the only option we have if we want to be able to support multimedia web content. -Stefan
