New Features: -Support for SSH Proxy (HTTP-Proxy was developed by <Heinrich Schuchardt> xypron.glpk(a)gmx.de) -Support for SSH broker -Some improvements in common broker code -better support for encrypted SSH-Key -improvements in SSH connection classes -hide system tray icon before closing client etc. I have also wrote some documentation which can help you by developing your own X2Go broker. Mike will edit it and publish on X2Go Wiki soon. x2go unmount dirs problem?

Hi dear fellows. I've been getting a error with x2go when umounting spool dir ERROR: failed to unmount /tmp/.x2go-hteles/spool/C- hteles-50-1349111442_stDKDE_dp16 I don't know when it started, but i'm having the same issue in kubuntu 10.04.1 fully updated and also on a kubuntu 12.10 testing machine. Do any of you guys can reproduce the problem? Also after resuming a session i get a kdialog windows with the same error? At first i thought that was my problem since i'm tinkering with x2goextensions and debugin scripts to do some stuff, but i then installed two new vm's with no tampering ant the problem still persists. All of this running stable ppa. Hi All: Another quick update - we think enabling fuse in the vserver guest is part of the problem, though the vserver folks suggest this may be a security/stability problem. In any event, that fixed the broken spool link, and we think we're on to "cups admin how to" issues that may be solved outside of this forum. More to follow... Best, Ted

On Debian wheezy the gedit.desktop file uses several sections [Desktop Entry] ... [Desktop Action Window] ... [Desktop Action Document] ... The x2gogetapps script should only extract the attributes under [Desktop Entry] and ignore the others. X2go, printing, Vserver, PostgreSQL - Progress....

Hi All: Making progress on printing using x2go on Vserver (with x2go server on one Vserver guest using postgresql backend and cups on another with ssh connection to x2go server). Thanks for help (as always) Mike - 1) Addressed DNS issues (was in instructions - Mike, apologies) 2) Not sure, but could not get "ssh-copy-id /root.ssh/id_dsa-x2goprint x2goprint(a)x2goserver1.your.domain" to work but if... -added key with ssh-agent on cups server -made adjustments to sshd_config on x2go server. -used "ssh-copy-id -i /root/.ssh/id_dsa-x2goprint x2goprint(a)x2goserver1.your.domain" (with -i and think there was missing "/" between /root and .ssh in web instructions) ...we can connect. An ls -la shows we are in /var/spool/x2goprint of the x2go server. Hope this approach has not fooled us into thinking the ssh connection is right. 3) We set up the virtual x2go printer on the cups server. 4) Checking error_log on cups server, we now have no errors and having turned on debug logging it appears that the x2go virtual printer loads correctly. 5) FYI - "getent passwd x2goprint" on x2go server returns "x2goprint:x:108:112::/var/spool/x2goprint:/bin/sh" We can't, however, see the virtual x2go printer from the client connection to the x2go server when we try to print. May not matter, but if we loosen up settings in cupsd.conf on the cups server, we can connect from the x2go server via a browser and then can see the x2go printer (e.g., http://192.168.1.xx:631) and launch print jobs (i.e., by-passing x2goprint). Q: we do not have cups installed on the x2go server - is that a mistake? Should the virutal x2go printer live on the x2go server, not the cups server? It wouldn't seem so... So we think we're still missing something between x2goprint and cups. Also, the "spool" link in the session is broken in .x2go in the user's home folder- does this matter? In the syslog of the x2go server we get: Sep 29 11:39:40 vserver1 /usr/bin/x2goruncommand: launching session with Xsession-x2go mechanism, using STARTUP="/usr/bin/gnome-session" Sep 29 11:39:41 vserver1 /usr/bin/x2gomountdirs[9409]: WARNING: mounting of /home/user1/.x2go/S-user1-50-1348918777_stDGNOME_dp24/spool failed. This error does not happen when we connect to a "regular" (non vserver guest) x2go server and print and the spool link is healthy". Q: Does this matter? FYI - we were getting the same sort of error when we tried printing with cups and x2go server on the same Vserver guest (single node). Vserver uses a "fstab" that sits outside of the "guest" environment that makes /tmp in the Vserver tmpf format and sets the size of /tmp, and the /etc/fstab inside the Vserver guest is blank. Would this cause the broken spool link? Q: Our understanding is Vserver has some issues with "fuse" - is that something to look at? Think/hope wer're getting close...thanks , Ted

Proxy versus broker?

Hello, all. I was delighted to see the pending release of proxy capability. Is this at all related to the project undertaken quite a while ago to create a "broker", i.e., to have a single publicly exposed site to which users would connect and then be directed to their appropriate X2Go Server? We currently struggle with assigning unique X2Go servers (and we use one per user via VServer) unique ports to avoid consuming countless public IP addresses. It would be so much easier of all could connect to a single device and have that device broker the connection to their internal X2Go Server. Thanks - John

python-x2go fails to build on launchpad

Hi Reinhard, Python X2Go fails to build on Launchpad for Ubuntu lucid currently. This is due to the missing --with python2 addon feature in debhelper 8.0.0, I guess. You uploaded debhelper 8.0.0 to ppa:x2go/ppa already. Would it make sense to provide a newer version of debhelper via our ppa? This, I guess, then has to be in ppa:x2go/ppa and ppa:x2go/stable. So, tell application "x2goclient" activate end tell tell application "x2goclient" set miniaturized of window 1 to true end tell fails, while tell application "x2goclient" activate tell app "system events" keystroke "h" using command down end tell end tell works *unless* x2goclient is currently busy (e.g. performing a login sequence), in which case the command is ignored. A well-behaved app can be controlled like explained here: http://laclefyoshi.blogspot.de/2010/10/google-chrome-ver.html (drag and drop app icon on AppleScript editor icon; list of available properties shows up) Trying this with x2goclient returns an error message that x2goclient is not scriptable. -Stefan

Issues/Quirks with MAC client

Hi list, I'm currently experimenting with x2goclient 3.99.2.2 on Mac OS X and this is what I've found "weird/fix-worthy" so far: 1) PulseAudio stutters (just like it does in the current MS-Windows client) 2) when x2goclient is called with "--hide", there is no way to access the "Published Applications" menu 2.1) there is no way to start published applications from the dock (compare right-click on systray icon on MS-Windows) 2.2) there also is no way to start published applications from the x2goclient menu on the upper screen border Re: 1) I'm not sure what we can do about this; it seems Mihai's attempts to make the PulseAudio developers aware of the issues have failed. :-( The other issues look like they could be fixed by the x2go-devs, though, so I'm posting my suggestions here: Re: 2) "--hide", on Windows (and probably also on Linux, though I never checked it there), means "hide-to-systray", so parts of the application remain accessible via right-click (context menu). I guess a sensible action on Mac OS, when "--hide" is used, would be to do a "minimize" by going straight to the Dock on startup, but, upon clicking the Dock icon, show the usual screen (just like after un-minimizing any other app). This is under the assumption that "2.1)" simply doesn't work on Mac OS. An alternative would be to remain "hidden", i.e. without a visible window on screen, and offering a pull-down menu with all published applications on the top menu bar ("2.2)"). Now, before anyone starts coding away on this, I'd like to see some feedback from the Mac users here: a) Where do you expect to find a list of published applications? b) Is there a UI styleguide by Apple that says this must/must not/should/should not be done in a particular way? -Stefan

New X2Go releases: x2goserver, cups-x2go, x2goplasmabindings, python-x2go

Dear all, The X2Go Project is proud to announce a couple of new X2Go component releases: - x2goserver (3.1.1.4) - cups-x2go (3.0.0.4) - x2goplasmabindings (with plasma-widget-x2go, 3.0.1.4) - python-x2go (0.2.0.10) All new packages will be available in our stable repositories (Debian, Ubuntu) within the next 24h. In the past months we skipped some minor announcements of release that were related to inclusion of some X2Go components in Debian (being available wheezy, partly in jessie). In the new X2Go Server release several issues got addressed: o Audio support (pulseaudio) with X2Go-proxied RDP sessions o Media support (client-side shared folders) for X2Go-proxied RDP sessions o XDCMP session type fixed o Fix KWin crashes on Kubuntu 12.04 (sponsored by Rohloff AG, thanks Mirco!!!) o Fix Xinerama with x2goserver-xsession package installed (also: thanks Mirco) In cups-x2go Helmer Teles provided us with a patch that now allows to specify the number of copies in a print job. Thanks to Helmer for that. In Python X2Go we fixed these issues: o Colour depth issues on Windows Clients (16 vs 17 bit) o Keyboard focus in X2Go-proxied RDP session against Windows 7 / 2008 o Fix session crashes due to left over bash-like commands o Prepare for DirectRDP session options... A Windows version of PyHoca-GUI with latest Python X2Go in it will be deferred till the release of PyHoca-GUI 0.2.0.5 (due in a couple of weeks, I guess). Hi All (Hi John): John, thanks so much for the input - we're trying to use the instructions from: http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:advanced:multi-node:x2goserver-pgsql http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:advanced:multi-node:x2goserver-printing ...and given that we cannot get do a manual ssh command line connection from the cups server/Vserver Host (which is this design we assume is the "ssh client") to the x2go server/Vserver Guest (which would then be the "ssh server") that that is probably where the problem lies (which we think is what John is suggesting). FYI though we cannot ping the Vserver guest from the host or visa versa by domain name (each can resolve to itself if we ping within the respective environments...i.e., in the Vserver host, if we ping "servername.myhost.com" the ip resolves), we think this is some sort of network protocol/firewall issue (the inability to ping by domain name) and not the source of the problem, but could be wrong. Are guessing this is an ssh issue and are working to sort that. We have some security concerns about have an active ssh between Vserver guests and hosts, but figure we want to get the printing working first and then think about possible security issues. SO...when we first try to connect via ssh commands from the cups server on the vserver host to the x2go server on the Vserver guest with the postgreSQL back end per http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:advanced:multi-node:x2goserver-printing, we get... RSA key fingerprint is dd:04:0f:56:5f:23:a8:71:e6:d8:aa:64:4c:91:16:0d. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yesWarning: Permanently added '192.168.1.112' (RSA) to the list of known hosts. Permission denied (publickey). We couldn't get the initial "here's how you move the public key from the client to the authorized_keys on the server", so we created /home/x2goprint/.ssh and added the public key info to authorized_keys there by hand....this also may be the source of the problem. We've tried checking the permissions and ownership on /home/x2goprint and it's .ssh and authorized_keys, as well as the x2go servers sshd_config file but no joy yet. Interestingly, our attempts do create a know_hosts file so we think some level of connection occurs. What's interesting, is that the print jobs show up in the /var/spool/cups logs on the cups server (Vserver host), so there seems to be some level of connection....sowe're guessing the the correct ssh connection is "the problem" we need to fix for x2goprint (the script) to work. I added a very basic SIGCHLD handler to the perl script and it seems to have been doing the trick, at least for the past few hours. Using libssh compiled from http://git.libssh.org/projects/libssh.git/log/?h=v0-5 I now can successfully connect via a proxy server to a SSH server. My coding is available at svn co http://www.xypron.de/svn/x2go/x2goclient/branches/proxy/ The changes in sshmasterconnection.* and connectionwidget.* are complete to my understanding. In onmainwindow I have only treated one of three entrypoints to sshmasterconnection. E.g. LDAP is not proxy enabled yet. In onmainwindow the proxy password field I introduced possibly should only be shown if a proxy is used and a login provided. Best regards Heinrich

Hi All: We're trying to get printing to work using X2go and Vserver. Per Mike's suggestion, we've shifted to trying the Postgres approach (http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:advanced:multi-node:x2goserver-pgsql and http://www.x2gorg/doku.php/wiki:advanced:multi-node:x2goserver-printing) but are still stuck. This is long, but are hoping will help... Some "suspects" are DNS, permissions (thanks John Sullivan for his suggestion), and ssh between the x2go server on the vserver and the cups server on the host (see below...Set up SSH Keys) Right now, when we try to print, superficially things seem to go as they should (e.g., entries for successful printing get entered in the cups logs) but nothing happens either in terms of popping a pdf and getting "Show this diaglog before starting printing" on the client or getting a page to print. FYI - the symptoms are pretty much the same as when we were stuck with single node x2go printing. TERMS: We think of things in the following terms, and hope this is useful for clarity: Host - computer that runs Vserver platform and Cups server. It is on this that we have set up the virtual x2go printer, shared it, and generated the ssh key for printing from x2go servers Guest - Vserver instances where x2goserver and the PostgreSQL backend are located and x2goserver-printing is installed, to which a client connects Client - netbook from which we connect to x2go on the Vserver Guest. SETUP 1) On Vserver Guest (x2go server): - Installed and set up PostgreSQL; added the "user" to postgres (user1) to be used when connecting from the x2go client to the x2go server and PostgreSQL database (x2godgadmin --adduser user1). - Installed x2go-server-printing NOTE: we got the following messages when setting up PostgreSQL and because we can connect (and sqlpass gets generated in user's .x2go on the x2go server) assume they don't matter, but have included them: root@vserver1:/usr/lib# x2godbadmin --createdb NOTICE: database "x2go_sessions" does not exist, skipping NOTICE: role "x2godbuser" does not exist, skipping NOTICE: CREATE TABLE / PRIMARY KEY will create implicit index "sessions_pkey" for table "sessions" NOTICE: CREATE TABLE / UNIQUE will create implicit index "sessions_display_key" for table "sessions" NOTICE: CREATE TABLE / PRIMARY KEY will create implicit index "messages_pkey" for table "messages" NOTICE: CREATE TABLE / PRIMARY KEY will create implicit index "used_ports_pkey" for table "used_ports" NOTICE: CREATE TABLE / PRIMARY KEY will create implicit index "mounts_pkey" for table "mounts" root@vserver12:/usr/lib# x2godbadmin --adduser user1 NOTICE: role "x2gouser_user1" does not exist, skipping create DB user "x2gouser_user1" 2) On Vserver Host (Cups Server): - Installed cups-x2go - Used "http://localhost:631" and added the virtual x2go printer and shared it (we couldn't see it on the client unless we shared it) - Used Visudo to add "x2goprint ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/x2goprint - Set up SSH Keys using http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:advanced:multi-node:x2goserver-printing NOTE: we had trouble getting the keys to copy over (ssh-copy-id /usr/bin/ssh-copy-id: ERROR: No identities found). We cannot ping the Guest from the Host by server name (e.g., vserver1.mydomain.com) but can by ip address. We ended up creating /home/x2goprint/.ssh/authorized_keys and adding the contents of id_dsa-x2goprint.pub by hand. We then issued ssh -i /root/.ssh/id_dsa-x2goprint x2goprint(a)x192.168.1.112 and got: The authenticity of host '192.168.1.112 (192.168.1.112)' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is dd:04:0f:56:5f:23:a8:71:e6:d8:aa:64:4c:91:16:0d. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes Warning: Permanently added '192.168.1.112' (RSA) to the list of known hosts. Permission denied (publickey). Is this "Permission denied (publickey)." the cause of our problems? It appears to have added an RSA key where we think the keys created where DSA... 3) Tested the x2go connection from the client. We could connect. Then tried to print: we can see the virtual x2go printer but cannot get any of the desired outcomes to occur (printing, get pdf to open using evince parameter). 4) Observations On the Vserver host (cups server) a) the print job files show up in /var/spool/cups b) in http://localhost:631 the print jobs show as completed c) there are no errors in /var/log/cups/error_log and the page_log and access_log seem to restister the successful print job and access to the cups When things are working: d) When things are working (straight connection from an x2go client to an x2go server - no vserver), on the server in home/user1/.x2go there is a healthly "spool" link to /tmp/.x2go-userx/spool/user1-50-1348322588_stDGNOME_dp24. When we print, some files get generated from there we think in the /tmp/.x2go...directory and the x2goprint code grabs them and uses them. But...on the guest e) On the setup we are trying to get working (client to Vserver Guest/X2goServer/PostgreSQL on a Vserver host), the spool link is shown as broken and the "on the fly" print files don't get created. 5) Help Q: is this some sort of DNS issue - we can't ping "vserver1.mydomain.com" but assume this is a protocol/firewall issue and not the problem in terms of printing. Q: John Sullivan wondered if this is a permissions issue (i.e., does the cups server have write access to the client spool directory): if this is the issue, we're not sure how to test or fix it. We looked at the permissions on the "working" vs. "not working" set ups on the spool directory and couldn't see any differences, but may be missing the point. Q: Vserver uses an fstab configu outside of the vserver itself where /tmp is listed as "none /tmp tmpfs size=128m,mode=1777 0 0" (and the /etc/fstab inside the Vserver only has "# UNCONFIGURED FSTAB FOR BASE SYSTEM"). Does the Vserver fstab set up get in the way of the spool link writing to the /tmp/.x2go....folder on the client? If so, this sound like it might be along the lines of John Sullivan's suggestion. Q: did the errors we got when generated the ssh keys matter "(Permission denied (publickey)."? The content of the Vserver/Cups Server host known hosts has: - a prefix of "|1|Ha2q5mBmGyrl4CYri92TPRb6NNU=|3gihEfRTYU8UHwI4FrQcSq29Exg=" - then the contents of the authorized_keys on the Vserver Guest/x2go server /home/user1/.ssh/authorized_keys file up to but excluding the "root(a)vserver1.mydomain.com" Or did we create DSA keys but somehow when trying to add them got crossed up with RSA keys (e.g., Warning: Permanently added '192.168.1.112' (RSA) to the list of known hosts."). Hi All: This morning, per yesterday's email re: our trouble printing using a Vserver guest with postgreSQL and a Vserver host doubling as a cups server, we tried an experiment that didn't work but thought we'd add it in. -We increased the Vserver config fstab (not the fstab in the Vserver's /etc but the one in the Vserver config folder) to 1024M. -We started x2go and noted the session name -By hand, we created a folder with the session name in /tmp (i.e., tmp/.x2go-user1/spool/C-user1-50-1348405390_stDGNOME_dp24) on the Vserver guest/x2go server. -We erased the broken spool link, and created a new one that points to the new folder in /tmp again on the Vserver guest/x2go server. At that point, the link was active (not broken) but nothing changed in our inablity to print. I.e., we start a print job on the virtual x2go printer, all seems to go fine, but no joy in terms of evince starting on the client or getting a page to print. Still though, the print jobs are showing up in /var/spool/cups on the cups server, in the cups interface (http://localhost:631) the page_log in /var/log/cups on the cups server, and we don't get any errors in error_log in /var/log/cups on the cups server. That has been the case before. We think that fact that we can connect via x2go shows that the postgreSQL setup is working, that the print jobs are showing up on the cups server suggests that the printing ssh connection works (though we're less sure about this). Not sure what to make of this....but hope it was worth adding. Best, Ted

Hello, there is a workaround for this issue. Doing the following to setup x2gognomebindings correct: 1. Install the package from the repository (apt-get install x2gognomebindings) 2. Copy the file gnome-settings-x2go.menu to gnome-settings.menu (cp /etc/xdg/menus/gnome-settings-x2go.menu /etc/xdg/menus/gnome-settings.menu) 3. Install the package again (apt-get install x2gognomebindings, dpkg-reconfigure x2gognomebindings should also work) Note: On Ubuntu base systems do all the commands with sudo That's it than the package gets installed correct and works fine. Hi, I have the same issue. I checked the color depth and both systems have 32Bit. I checked the pyhoca settings, both profiles are identically set up. The only difference is that one system is Win 7 64Bit, while the other one is Win7 32Bit. What I see is that on one computer the session name always ends with dp16 and on the other one with dp17. Does this have any meaning? Any idea what can be wrong? Package: x2goagent Version: 3.5.0.15 Severity: grave for the record: there currently is a grave bug in Debian testing (forwarded to freedesktop.org) that describes a rendering problem of GTK based application menus. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=666564 I can reproduce these problems with latest x2goagent version, as well. However, I am not sure, to what respect we can solve this in X2Go. As it is a bug in the Xserver code of Xorg, we finally may have to patch the solution into x2goagent sometime (or search for it by ourselves) but we also may not... Because: the problem does not occur on Ubuntu precise as X2Go Server. It only occurs on Debian wheezy/sid as X2Go Server. This leads me to the conclusion that the issue has to be solved inside Debian and we will be happy in X2Go once that is fixed. This bug is for documenting the progress of the X2Go team and others on this issue. 1. DESKTOP SESSIONS * Menus are rendered ok under Ubuntu precise * Menus are sometimes rendered ok under Debian, sometimes lines are missing 2. ROOTLESS SESSIONS * Libreoffice (from wheezy/sid) does not have any text in the menus at all * On Ubuntu precise Libreoffice looks ok... Package: x2goclient Severity: normal Version 3.1.1.3 Sometimes a session is improperly terminated, but keeps the status 'R' this prevents the start of a new session. After investigating further I found x2goagent was running but could not be canceled normally. So I ran kill -9. After that the session disappeared and everything turned back to normal. So apparently there can be circumstances that x2goagent hangs. In fact there are 2 issues here 1. x2goterminate-session should be able to handle a situation where x2goagent hangs and cannot be terminated normally 2. it is possible to get in a situation where x2goagent hangs.
