Use of the EPEL name

I don't like the use of the EPEL name here http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:development:nightly-builds#nightly_build… as I think it is causing confusion between the X2Go packages provided by the X2Go project and those provided by the actual Fedora EPEL project. Package: x2goclient Severity: Grave This only affects current nightly builds on the master branch (4.0.2.1.) Like the subject says, X2Go Client for Windows will not launch unless you pass --debug. If you do not pass --debug, no window ever opens, there is no error message, and the x2goclient.exe process terminates within a second. Observed on Windows 8.1 (with update 1) 64-bit. This regression appears to have been introduced over the last few weeks or so, (possibly by me.)

How to handle the different Windows builds

For the time being at least, there need to be multiple builds of X2Go Client for Windows. You can read about them here: http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:release-notes-mswin:x2goclient-4.0.2.0#cur… I suggest the following: Given a release like "4.0.2.0+build4": http://code.x2go.org/releases/binary-win32/x2goclient/releases/4.0.2.0+buil… 1. I create a subdir called "other-builds" and put all the other builds in it. 2. For all existing releases, I will move the other builds to that new directory, but create a symlink from their current locations under /binary-win32/x2goclient/tmp . I am open to suggestions for other names for the subdir. Perhaps "non-default-builds"? And remember that releases such as "4.0.2.0+build4" are newer releases of X2Go Client for windows, note separate builds, despite having "build" in their name. They indicate though that the source code for x2goclient has not been modified, only a bundled dependency (VcXsrv, openssl, etc) has been updated. Usually I do not even rebuild x2goclient.exe with them. -Mike

Need advice on fixing x2goclient bug #109

Hi Alex, Mike, and anyone else who is familiar with the x2goclient code, I think I have an idea of how to solve bug 109, let me know if it seems feasible: http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=109 Remember that I am not very experienced with C++. 1. For comparison, it appears that if your LDAP settings are incorrect at x2goclient launch, then the settings menu opens up for you to correct them. Am I correct? 2. I would like to do the same with the X server settings on Windows. 3. The error message (not a crash message) that was reported in bug #109 is in ONMainWindow::getXDisplay() 4. Currently, after that error message is shown, the QT function close() is called to close x2goclient altogether. 5. I figured I would replace the call to close() with a call to slotConfig(), and then startXOrg(). This would open up the settings menu, and then it would try to restart the X server, correct? 6. Also, I would put a loop in getXDisplay() in case the user sets incorrect X server settings (or doesn't change them at all). 7. To avoid a possibly infinite loop, the error message would have an option to exit x2goclient entirely rather than fixing the settings. I think I would need to replace QMessageBox::critical with another class. -Mike#2

Bug#520: Wrong order of redirections in x2gomountdirs

Package: x2goserver Version: 4.0.1.15-0x2go1+git20140615.847+wheezy.main.1 Tag: patch The order of redirections in sshfs invocation (inside /usr/bin/x2gomountdirs) is incorrect. Redirection of stderr should be after telling shell to append stdout to sshfs-mounts.log - otherwise log is missing errors from sshfs. I needed this to debug and fix problems with mounting of spool dir on debian wheezy. I'm attaching git patch against current master. Best regards Andrzej

Help with X11 errors

At work, at least 1 other user and myself are getting errors like these in ~/.xsession-x2go-errors every several days. We are using IceWM (command: icewm-session) on Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit with most of the bugfix updates installed for ubuntu itself. We are using the x2go stable PPA and we have installed all the updates available for it. For legacy reasons, our default shell is TCSH. xgoserver-xsession is installed. These errors might not be causing an actual problem, but the other user reported that x2goclient got randomly disconnected yesterday. Furthermore, she could not reconnect to her session; she had to terminate it and then start a new one. That's why I am looking into them. Hello, I'm currently working on distant application server based on X2GO. On the demonstration computer, the X2GO client (PyQt) works perfectly. So I use this situation to make converge my other system built on the python API. The python API performs correctly the negociation with the server, but whe it comes to nxproxy, this one crashes. A first problem comes from cygwin porting of nxproxy, but it was not suficient to fix it (see PS). nxproxy writes now in the 'session' file the following message: "Host X server DISPLAY is not set". This seem to be linked with the launching of the VcXsrv utility embedded in the X2GO client distribution, which is launched at the client start. But how do I start it without a blank window, and how do I link it with nxproxy ? Unfortunately, I only grasped the severity of that bug report a couple of days back. In February 2014, a development snapshot of x2goserver* packages found their way into the Debian-based package archive of X2Go Baikal LTS [2]. This is of course a severe issue and after cross-checking last Monday, I reverted those uploads and provided the correct package versions (X2Go Server 4.0.0.11). No other area of the package archive was affected, only the Baikal LTS packages of X2Go Server for Debian. == How to downgrade == Follow these steps for downgrading the development snapshot (4.1.0.0-preview) to the current Baikal LTS release of X2Go Server (4.0.0.11). We won't tweak the X11 version string presented by NX as that is definitely the wrong approach to go at this place. package: pyhoca-gui Severity: normal Version: 0.4.0.1 When a user ends pyhoca-gui by right-clicking on the icon and selecting "exit", the application exits OK, however when a session is still active, that session cannot be resumed. What happens is that when one restarts pyhoca-gui and that connection, pyhoca-gui indicates that it will resume the session, however, nothing happens and the session is quietly killed. Control: reassign #263 x2goserver Control: reassign #206 x2goserver Control: merge #263 -1 Control: merge #206 -1 From studying our bug tracker reports, I assume that #206 and #263 are duplicates of #302 which got closed yesterday. @Borys, and other potential testers: can you please check what has been described at [1] and test either X2Go Server from the nightly builds or apply this patch [2] on top of x2goserver 4.0.1.15 (or build packages from x2goserver.git, branch=release/4.0.1.x). Unfortunately, the 302_bugfix script provided at [1] will only work on the X2Go Server 4.1.0.0-preview (x2goclient.git, branch=master), but not with current stable releases of X2Go Server. Control: close -1 Hi all, I have just stumbled over a very severe flaw in our X2Go package archive for Debian [1]. A development snapshot of X2Go Server (4.1.0.0-preview) got uploaded to the Baikal LTS area. That is a very very severe problem to people who run the long-term supported version of X2Go Server. I have just kicked of a rebuild of all X2Go Server packages of that archive and will provide an announcement and a troubleshooting / downgrading recipe tomorrow. I deeply apologize for this very severe flaw and big thanks to John McMonagle for unravelling this. Unfortunately, his message got ignored till now...
