Package: x2goclient Version: 4.0.2.1 Severity: grave Hi, Alex' latest patches introduce a new and more severe bug. His idea, assuming that Mike#1. Mike#2, Mihai and me understood him correctly, is, that on Windows, users shouldn't start x2goclient.exe any more, but rather the new x2gohelper.exe. ==>Alex, if we're misunderstanding what you wrote, please reply and explain your intentions. Assuming we're right, your plan breaks backward compatibility when it comes to desktop shortcuts on Windows, in two places. The smaller issue is that clicking the arrow on the session tile will create a desktop shortcut that is hardcoded to x2goclient.exe instead of x2gohelper.exe. This could be fixed with a small patch. However ... The bigger issue is that *all* existing links users may have on their desktops are broken, since they point to x2goclient.exe and can't easily be changed! I have at least one customer that makes heavy use of that feature, where it would mean manually updating over 600 desktop shortcuts. That is not going to be fun! We need to find a way to achieve what you were trying to achieve without breaking backward compatibility like that. >From what I understand so far, you're trying to build a "reaper" to clean up after a dying x2golient.exe, which may have left pulseaudio, xserver and ssh daemon running. I haven't tried to figure out what your current x2gohelper.exe is trying to do, and if you made changes to x2goclient.exe as well where functionality from x2goclient.exe is moved to x2gohelper.exe. If you moved it, rather than duplicating it, that's not going to help, because it might just as well be x2gohelper.exe that dies first and you'd again leave sshd, pulseaudio, and xserver dangling. Duplicating it might work, similar to how certain malware on Windows works (two processes checking on each other and re-spawning whichever gets killed first). So you'd have x2goclient.exe on the one hand permanently checking if x2gohelper.exe is running, respawning it when necessary, and upon shutdown, "trying" to clean up behind itself by terminating sshd, pulseaudio, xserver, and finally itself. While x2gohelper.exe would be checking if x2goclient.exe is still running - if not, it will terminate sshd, pulseaudio, xserver, (if any of them are still running) and finally itself. Before you start coding, I'd like to ask this question, though: Do we really want to have a reaper mechanism that tries to clean up after a malfunctioning x2goclient.exe, or wouldn't it be better to find out why x2goclient.exe is malfunctioning, fix these issues / catch those exceptions and deal with them appropriately (i.e. properly shutting down sshd, pulseaudio and xserver before going belly-up)? The latter would mean we need more bug reports and it requires analyzing what exactly went wrong, but it would be less disturbing to x2goclient development and roll-out. Whichever path you choose, Alex, please do keep in mind that we have a release planned in the near future and your latest commits aren't exactly helpful in getting 4.0.2.1 stabilized (and I *need* 4.0.2.1 out soon, my customers are desperately waiting for it because of the improved sound that PA5 brings). It would be really really cool if you could either do your development on a separate branch that could later become 4.0.2.2, or hold back until we have released 4.0.2.1. In preparation for the upcoming release of X2Go Client 4.0.2.1 (which has been delayed till after August 2nd,) a new preview build (pre04) of X2Go Client for Windows is available to download under: http://code.x2go.org/releases/binary-win32/x2goclient/previews/4.0.2.1/ It is based on commit 3d76d00. http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=x2goclient.git;a=commit;h=3d76d001c18fef4f88c… In particular, there are 2 things we would like people to test: 1. That bug #525 is fixed.: x2goclient.exe shows "arrow and hourglass" cursor for 5 seconds during startup http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=525 2. Testing the installer in general, particularly for regressions in internationalization. Major improvements have been made to the installer in order to provide a proper fix for bug #108. There are no longer separate fonts builds, they are included in the regular build. (There is still a debug build though.) Bug#108: Info on why some apps need the fonts but others don't

I've determined why the fonts are needed by some Linux applications, but not others. Jon TURNEY from the Cygwin X11 project gave a very good overview: https://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-xfree/2014-07/threads.html#00002 Nomachine also had a very good explanation: http://web.archive.org/web/20100323142457/http://www.nomachine.com/download… The question is then what should the default be? misc only? or 75dpi, 100dpi, and misc? misc is 412 files at 6.80 MB (7.94 MB on disk) 75dpi is 1,897 files at 10.7 MB (15.6 MB on disk) 100dpi is 1,897 files at 12.3 MB (16.8 MB on disk) everything else is 466 files at 12.8MB (13.8 MB on disk) I am leaning towards default to only misc, and then having separate options for 75dpi, 100dpi, and for everything else.

For some reason, this affects my desktop, but not my XP VM. Specifically, on the XP VM, the pid file is left behind. But it does not cause PyHoca-GUI to display the message. (Nor does it prevent PyHoca-GUI from launching pulseaudio.exe.) Desktop (executor): Windows 8.1 64-bit with update 1 Multiple sound adapters. Bug#536: PyHoca-GUI: Windows: vcxsrv.exe failed to start due to missing zlib1.dll

Package: pyhoca-contrib When attempting to start PyHoca-GUI 0.5.0.0-pre01 on a Windows XP SP3 VM without much software installed, I get the error message: vcxsrv.exe - Unable to Locate Component This application has failed to start because zlib1.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem. It appears that this library is not necessary to have under the vcxsrv subfolder for x2goclient because it is already in the x2goclient folder itself. However, for PyHoca-GUI, the library is necessary in the vcxsrv subfolder for Pyhoca-GUI because the PyHoca-GUI folder does not contain it. I'm about to commit a fix.

Package: pyhoca-gui Version: 0.4.0.8 Version: 0.5.0.0-preview On Windows, whenever I launch PyHoca-GUI a 2nd time (or 3rd time, etc),I get the error bubble/notification: The X2Go PulseAudio system could not be started. The pulseaudio.exe process is indeed not running, and sound does not work. The simple workaround is to delete the folder: %USERPROFILE%\.pulse Or more specifically, delete the only file underneath it: %USERPROFILE%\.pulse\%COMPUTERNAME%-runtime\pid You'll have to delete that file after everytime you run PyHoca-GUI. X2Go Client is not affected by this problem. note, on Windows: pyhoca-gui 0.4.0.8 has PulseAudio 1.1 pyhoca-gui 0.5.0.0 has PulseAudio 5.0

Mike#1 and any other git experts, For some reason, I did not get errors when committing to pyhoca-contrib on my local machine, but I did get errors when pushing to pyhoca-contrib on code.x2go.org: See attachment. I am not worried about the warnings, I am worried about the errors. I was using cygwin git. -Mike#2

package: pyhoca-gui version: 0.5.0.0-preview For some reason I cannot figure out, on my home desktop (Windows 8.1 with update 1 64-bit) I experience the error below when I try to launch PyHoca-GUI in development mode. I have not been able to testPyHoca-GUI in regular/installed mode due to #531. Yet on the X2Go-WinBuilder VM (Windows 7 64-bit SP1,) which I am almost certain I did the same exact setup work on (according to the instructions immediately below), it does not have the problem. Package: pyhoca-gui Version: 5.0.0.0-preview I followed the pyhoca-gui build instructions simultaneously on both the X2Go-WinBuilder VM, and my home desktop (excutor.) The former is Windows 7 64-bit SP1, the latter is WIndows 8.1 64-bit with update 1. They both get the same error. I also tried building under both Msysgit bash and under cmd.exe Instructions (it's the very last step that fails.) http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:development:build-howto-mswin:pyhoca-gui setup common to both machines: Python 2.7.8 32-bit (Released 3 days a go) bbfreeze-1.1.3-py2.7.egg bbfreeze_loader-1.1.0-py2.7-win32.egg py2exe-0.6.9.win32-py2.7 Msysgit (AKA "Git for Windows") 1.9.4-preview20140611 (In other words, I have both bbfreeze and py2exe installed.) Package: pyhoca-gui Version: 0.5.0.0-preview I'd clone x2goclient bug #363 if I could. It is the same underlying issue that also affected x2goclient. I am about to commit the fix. Instead of providing separate PulseAudio 0.9.6 builds like I did for X2Go Client 4.0.1.x, I will upgrade PyHoca-GUI's bundled PulseAudio from 1.1 to 5.0-rev18. (Same as X2Go Client 4.0.2.0 ships.) -rev18 (the version suffix from the OpenSUSE OBS) includes the upstream patch for this issue.

Package: python-x2go Version: 5.0.0.0-preview This is basically bug 422, but applied to pyhoca-gui via its python-x2go code. The details are a little bit different. pyhoca-gui and python-x2go do not override %USERPROFILE% for example. However, the same symptoms occur. I am about to check in a fix. It will not include the logic to be safe with PulseAudio 0.9.6, so it will break compatibility with 0.9.6. That logic would need to be ported from QT/C++ to Python2. However I deem that compatibility breakage appropriate because: 1. Compatibility with PulseAudio 1.1 will be retained. 2. There has been no reason to ship x2goclient 4.0.2.x with PulseAudio 1.1 or 0.9.6 (rather than 5.0), other than the 1 XP-specific bug #526. (Which I have already commited a fix for in x2goclient 4.0.2.1's previews anyway.)

This happens with emacs as well. Both tested while using the icewm-session desktop. The x2go program doesn't crash. I just tried out VcXsrv-xp 1.14.3.2 on its own, not with X2Go. I launched an XDMCP session using "XLaunch" in "One large window" mode. I also tried out Cygwin X11 on its own. I ran "X -query <hostname>", which appears to be the same as what I did in XLaunch. Results: Whether I am at the gdm login screen, or I am logged into the gnome2 session (centos 6.5), VcXsrv does not respond to ctrl+alt+F. Conclusion: ctrl+alt+F must be an X2Go-specific feature, not a common Xwin feature.

So I think that nxproxy (nx-libs-lite) is only at version 3.5.0, not 3.5.0.27. Package: not_applicable Hello, We are trying to move from NX to X2Go. One of our tools is called Questa Sim (EDA tool from Mentor Graphics). When we used to run it from NX, no issues. Can you give feedback, if you also see those color issues on fresh installations? If so, please give us more details (and maybe a screenshot) about your observations.
