(Took me a week to debug :() Could you please consider changing it to some more specific name like "X2GO_STARTUP"? Thanks!

It only contributes to dependency problems...but then again, i have no idea if there are technical reasons for you to specifically provide older version of this particular lib... i do know that if i go ahead and downgrade libssh4 to get x2goclient installed on the system, very next system update will be hassle to do. Again, without knowing x2goclient code, would it be possible to build rpm in such a way that it would require libraries from upstream repos instead of dedicated x2go repos, except, of course, those libs that are so specific to x2go that they are not present in "general" upstream repos. I tested the same scenario (Windows 10 client v4.0.5.0 and Ubuntu Server 14.04.03 LTS latest X2Go Server from ppa:x2go/stable) and have observed the following behaviour: When I copy something via CTRL+C inside the X2Go session**, I can paste it via CTRL+V on my Windows 10 machine. However, when I copy something with CTRL+C on my Windows 10 machine, I cannot paste it via CTRL+V inside the X2Go session. Same results when doing it via context menues. Of course, I allowed bidirectional clipboard access on the Windows 10 client. So it only works from server to client while client to server clipboard fails. I tested this with XFCE (xfce4) and with MATE (ubuntu-mate-core from ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/ppa).

Package: x2goclient Version: 4.0.5.0 I have 3 monitors, 1 and 2 are 1920x 1200 and 3 is 2560 x 1600, and I am running Windows 10. Monitor 1 is the Windows 'primary' display, and is the left hand of 1 and 2. I set my remote session to be display 2 (use whole display), Xinerama extension not enabled. I am connecting to Ubuntu 14.04 with Mate installed. I also connect to Linux Mint Mate 17 (i.e. the same Ubuntu version). When I connect for the first time, it performs correctly, with the session taking up the whole of display 2, although the taskbar icon is the X server icon, not the x2go X icon. If I then suspend the session and then connect to it again, the X client does not come up full screen on display 2. Instead it comes up as a non-maximised window with title bar and occupying all of display 1 and one third of display 2. The client inside with window has the correct 1920x 1200, and so the MATE taskbar is off the bottom, and the one third of display 2 is just grey background (all the client is on display 1). If I move the window to display 2, I can maximise it there, but I can't get rid of the title bar. Because the client is still dimensioned to the display, the image is shifted down by the title bar size, so the MATE taskbar is inaccessible.

PS: If you manually add R/W access (chmod +rw) to ~/media/disk/_cygdrive_C_Temp/, then you can access the directory itself, but you still can't access any file inside. Unless you manually chmod every single file inside.

I was having difficulty with the keyboard working with x2go 4.0.4.0 using X11 2.6.5 on OS X (specifically, the ctrl key was not working). Changing settings in the X11 preferences did not have any effect. Upgrading to XQuartz 2.7.7 appears to have resolved the issue for me. Hi to all of you, I may have found a solution for those who have a full size keyboard: try to switch the Num Lock off while connected to the remote machine. To do so, press: shift + clear The clear button contains a rectangle with a big x con it, on a full size mac keyboard is right above the 7 key on the numeric keypad. For the owners of a small size keyboard try to google on the internet how to switch off the num lock on your keyboard. Hope this helps. It worked for me. Best regards, Alessandro

/etc/x2go/Xsession, dbus-daemon, and problems with XDG_CONFIG_HOME

Hi All- I'm trying to separate my persistent x2go session from other local sessions, so in the startup command (Session type = Custom desktop) I first do things like export XDG_CONFIG_HOME="$HOME/.config.x2go" But I notice that *before* this startup command is called, dbus-daemon is already running inside the x2go session. This dbus daemon instance does not know about my modified XDG_CONFIG_HOME and it does not pass it to any other services it spawns. As a result, those parts of my desktop environment which are started by dbus will keep their settings in $HOME/.config, while others will properly use $HOME/.config.x2go. I have been able to hack around that by modifying /etc/x2go/Xsession so it does not call /etc/x2go/xinitrc.d/00-start-message-bus.sh. But that is certainly not clean. Do you think there is something we could do in the core (nxagent?) to solve this cleanly? Thank you Hans

color depth

Folks, Now that I have a handle on bug# 884, I am trying to see how to get best performance out of x2go. My finding so far is that TigerVNC is much more fluid than x2go session for scrolling text. The benchmark for my performance analysis is the scrolling in Idea Intellij development tool window. I grab hold of the scrollbar with left click and move it from top to bottom. Visually, I can observe that the scrolling is lagging behind the mouse cursor in x2go session and is able to keep up with in VNC session. The software versions on the server are exact same and both x2go and tigervnc are updated to latest bits. Before sending this email, I tried a very large number of combinations of settings in the "connection" tab to pick different packing methods and varying values for ADSL, WAN, LAN etc., because I know this topic can be contentious....:-) Tigervnc always came ahead. I am connecting to my office over VPN over WAN (90Mbps/6Mbps). The only difference between these sessions is the color depth of the display. Xvnc session uses 16 bits whereas x2go session is using 24 bits. The depth is picked up by x2go from the local display. Is there a way to force it to use 16-bit color depth for nxagent? I don't want to change the local display (and likely the session will not restore across multiple systems, unless I make all of them use 16-bit color depth). I tried changing the agentoptions (X2GO_NXAGENT_DEFAULT_OPTIONS) on the server and passed "-depth 16" to the nxagent. It failed to make the session altogether, which tells me that -depth option to nxagent may not be supported. Any ideas? -devsk PS: long many years ago, I have used freenx and it was always way ahead of VNC, and I expected that to be the case even now. But then, TigerVNC now and RealVNC of ages ago are two different beasts. TigerVNC has made several performance improvements over the years and is very actively developed.

No network issues, no server congestion, etc. I also have another session (true No Machine client) to another local server, and it does not slow down during this time, so I do not think it is a client issue. The guest OS (Windows or Linux/X.org) is expected to use it via their QXL graphics driver and various guest agents (for things like clipboard sharing.) The above paragraph is what Red Hat's RHEV product and their upstream oVirt project ships. Their interaction with eachother, other upstream projects (qemu especially) and Linux distros (Fedora, CentOS) is complex, but perhaps a good model for X2Go, Arctica, etc. (Even though we do not and should not "sell" access to our binaries like Red Hat does with RHEV.) (I intend to blog about and/or discuss the RHEV-oVirt-upstream-projects model.) X.org (xfree86 DDX) can also use the qxl driver directly and implement the SPICE server in its own process, rather than in the host's qemu-kvm process. The python script for making it run as as drivers for X.org is called XSpice, which sounds like a DDX, but technically isn't. XSpice is part of the qxl (SPICE driver) package for Linux. http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-qxl/ So the XSpice python script is roughly comparable to x2goserver's scripts. It event starts those guest agents, but for use without the hypervisor. SPICE uses multiple channels (graphics, audio, clipboard sharing) over a single TCP connection, similar to Microsoft RDP. This is in contrast to X2Go using separate TCP connections over SSH. SPICE typically uses SSL/TLS, but can be used over SSH. Authentication and encryption is purposely not implemented in the SPICE protocol itself, so that it can be handled by things like TLS (or SSH) instead. SPICE uses client-side rendering for 2D drawing (like nx-libs does), but has traditionally decoded videos via the guest OS, and then let SPICE re-encode them as MJPEG. I tried this on a VM running on qemu-kvm with SPICE with a youtube video, and it had the effect of taxing 1 CPU core on the host, but making the video decently smooth across my home LAN. I forget if I did this with oVirt (complex to setup) or with virt-manager (far easier to setup), but either way, it was qemu-kvm via libvirt. This was months ago. So their use of GStreamer is interesting. Also, note that nx-libs does have certain advantages over SPICE, such as support for RemoteApp mode, lower bandwidth usage and better WAN performance. I am NOT suggesting we "jump ship." Hello List, I'm Stefan Schäfer from project invis-server.org. The goal of our project is to build fully open-source small-business servers. Our project is based on openSUSE. We are an openSUSE spin-off project. A friend of us decided to use our servers as a base for it's own project "meditux" an he needs the combination of XFCE an x2go for support purposes. Normally our servers didn't have a X environment. After installing XFCE and x2go it's possible to open a XFCE Session via VNC but not via x2go. The first step, authenticate via SSH works well and after this the session aborts with the following errors: keyboard file not created: Is a directory Error: Aborting session with 'Could not open default font 'fixed'' Asking Google it seems that al lot users have this problem and that it is a NX Problem. Most poeple solved this problem by creating the directory "/usr/share/fonts/misc" or starting the fontserver XFS. On our system XFS was running, "/usr/share/fonts/misc" exists and ist filled with roundabout 500 fonts. On Windows 7 configure the taskbar to be on the top: - right mouse button click on empty space of taskbar - click on Properties - switch to Taskbar tab - in 'Taskbar appearance' section set 'Taskbar location on screen:' to |Top| - click [OK] Then start X2Go client and configure a session profile. I am using 'XFCE' desktop session. Do not use 'fullscreen' resolution. Use '800x600' as resolution. Now establish the X2Go connection. The X2Go window of the remote computer does not honor the location of the taskbar. The X2Go window of the remote computer starts to be drawn in the upper left hand screen. However, the taskbar is in that position. The X2Go window of the remote computer is drawn below the taskbar. If you resize the X2Go window of the remote computer the window will be moved so it is not below the taskbar anymore. Log off from the remote computer. Change the resolution for the X2Go connection to 'Display 1' Establish the X2Go connection again. It is the same problem. This time much better visible due to the large empty space at the bottom. And you cannot resize the X2Go window. The problem is reproducible with 'Taskbar location on screen:' set to |Left| as well. I would like the X2Go window for remote computers to honor the position of the taskbar. So the window is not drawn below the taskbar. -- Kind regards, René

I was using: - Mac OS X 10.10 - Fedora 22 - Windows 7 Steps to reproduce: 0. start X2Go client on a computer with a small display size (1280x800 px) 1. create a new X2Go session profile 2. set: Session tab -- '[x] use Proxy server for SSH connection' 3. buttons not displayed: [OK] [Cancel] [Defaults] On Mac OS X and Windows the 'Session preferences' window does not use the minimal size possible. On GNU/Linux the 'Session preferences' window uses the minimal size possible. However, for all three operating systems the 'Session preferences' window does not resize automatically to the minimum size possible. My Mac OS X notebook has a 13" display with a resolution of 1280x800 px. Screen width is no issue. Screen height is the issue with x2goclient. On Mac OS X the 'Session preferences - ...' window height is 900 px by default. So the buttons '[OK] [Cancel] [Apply]' at the bottom of the x2goclient window are not displayed by default. On Mac OS X: - after moving the 'Session preferences' window a little bit it resizes, so buttons are displayed. - resizing the window does resize it automatically, you have to move the window. - if you set '[x] use Proxy server for SSH connection' in the Session tab and maximize the window with the green green [+] button (hold down alt key) in the upper left corner of the window the content of the "Proxy server" section is garbled On Windows and GNU/Linux the 'Session preferences' window is not resized after moving. By hiding the 'Session' tab and recompiling I verified the culprit: Session tab -- '[x] use Proxy server for SSH connection' This expands a big menu. I thought of the following solutions: - define minimum/maximum size of the 'Session preferences' window in height; on Mac OS X the windows minimum height is as small as 693 px -> if Session tab -- '[x] use Proxy server for SSH connection' is set, the minimum height will get much larger; doh! - add automatic resizing after 'Use Proxy server' check box is toggled with: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13942616/qt-resize-window-after-widget-r… -> if the menu is extended, the required size to display all is still too small; doh! - introduce scroll bars; so the buttons at the button of the 'Session preferences' window are displayed and you can scroll the content, if necessary -> I could not get this to work; after several days I concluded my knowledge is insufficient for this task - in the 'Session preferences' window in the 'Session' tab move the sections 'Server' and 'Session type' to an additional tab, dubbed 'Authentication' -> I hacked the source and it worked out. :) The files I created/edited have been attached as an archive. I commented the lines in 'editconnectiondialog.*' in order to make sure to not forget any line. Maybe some 'include headers' are not required anymore and can be removed. Note, in the file: x2goclient/src/sessionwidget.cpp I replaced: lKey=new QLabel ( tr ( "Use RSA/DSA key for ssh connection:" ),sgb ); with: lKey=new QLabel ( tr ( "Use RSA/DSA key for SSH connection:" ),sgb ); because in other lines it is written SSH as well, for example: cbAutoLogin=new QCheckBox(tr("Try auto login (via SSH Agent or default SSH key)"),sgb); OR cbProxy=new QCheckBox(tr("Use Proxy server for SSH connection"),sgb); In the file: x2goclient/src/sessionwidget.cpp the section: --8<-- #ifndef Q_WS_HILDON openKey=new QPushButton ( QIcon ( mainWindow->iconsPath ( "/32x32/file-open.png" ) ), QString::null,sgb ); QVBoxLayout *sgbLay = new QVBoxLayout ( sgb ); #else QPushButton* openKey=new QPushButton ( QIcon ( mainWindow->iconsPath ( "/16x16/file-open.png" ) ), QString::null,sgb ); QVBoxLayout *sgbLay = new QVBoxLayout (); #endif --8<-- urges me to ask: why 32x32 in one branch and 16x16 in the other? With the changes in place I compiled the source on Mac OS X. Everything seems to work just fine. Please, use the default icon for the mounted disk image. If we specify -l to bash it runs as a login shell, sources the proper startup files and sets SHELL to whatever getpwent() returns for the login shell. However, this also opens the door for things like ~/.bash_logout to get run which executes "clear", which emits: TERM environment variable not set. when TERM is empty as it is here. So we also set TERM=dumb to work around that. It might be nice to add the ability to distinguish between a session startup command and other utility commands (x2gomountdirs, etc.) and only add -l to the session startup commands. Hello, same problem here. Afters hours (3-4H, random) , session becomes slow, clic very long to respond. No network problem, no load or CPU high on server, everything is normal on server. I was unable to reproduce at any time. and i wad unable to guess what KDE4 app is problem. Application that are used : Dolphin, Open Office Calc, sometimes Firefox Closing session et restart it is OK. I can make some tests or look for logs if you want.. Package: x2goserver Severity: normal I am running x2goserver 4.0.1.9 on an EdgeRouter Lite with a dual core 500 MHz dual Octeon CPU. I looked at the CPU time consumption while no x2go session was active. ps -A shows the following processes. 609 ? 00:00:02 x2gocleansessio 11923 ? 00:00:01 x2golistsession 11930 ? 00:00:01 x2gosqlitewrapp 609 is the parent 11923, 11930 are children with varying PID. These 3 processes are shown in program top often as major CPU consumers. After 4700 s uptime x2gocleansession has used 2041 s CPU time spent in user code, including time from children 538 s CPU time spent in kernel code, including time from children Why is x2golistsession eating up 25% of the available CPU? Package: x2goagent Version: 3.5.0.32 As discussed with IONIC, there is a problem when You try to connect to different servers from Windows at the same time, using multiple instances of x2go client. The reason is, that the x2go servers are all using the same SSH_Port. That should not be a problem from my point of view, so that behaviour should be further investigated. The problem was reported already a very long time ago, but still exists : https://www.mail-archive.com/x2go-user@lists.berlios.de/msg00547.html In the meantime, here a small patch for x2gostartagent script: That patch uses a different SSH_PORT for each Server, therefore try to avoid conflicts. There are two methods implemented : method one, suitable for Class "C" Networks, with no possible conflicts. The SSH Port is dependent on the last octet of the servers host adress. method two, with randomized ports, what may lead to conflicts from case to case, but can handle networks were servers might have the same last octet of the host adress. However, that patch enables to have multiple instances of x2goclients running on one windows machine, against different hosts. please find attached the IRC conversation log with Ionic, as well as the patched script for x2gostartagent I hove it can be committed, I am getting tired to patch my hosts on every x2go server update ;-) yours sincerely Robert Nowotny Rotek GmbH

Package: x2goclient Version: 4.0.5.0 Client OS: Windows 7 64-bit SP1 Server Info: x2goserver 4.1.0.0-0~1303~ubuntu14.04.1 amd64 Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela (GNU/Linux 3.19.8 x86_64) I installed X2Go for the first time and after saving my session settings it will immediately crash the session preferences window, causing the entire program to be closed after the crash message is dismissed ("x2goclient.exe has stopped working"). It does save the settings successfully before crashing. This happens whether any settings are changed or if I just click cancel after bring up the session preferences window for the only session profile present. I'm using: KDE session, SSH port 22, username: lcb, prompt for password (No keys), LAN speed, 16m-jpeg, Quality 8, custom resolution 1680x1050, 90 DPI, Bidirectional copy/paste, and a single shared folder (Downloads). I tried creating a new session with only a username and host specified and this crashes as well upon saving/cancel. As long as I don't change session preferences the client works great, no other issues. Package: x2goserver Version: 4.0.1.19-3.el6 OS: Centos 6.7 Package: x2goclient Version: 4.0.1.4-1.el6 OS: Centos 6.7 Architecture : - Dual screen - Gnome Desktop - Fullscreen - Xinerama enabled First connection : The first x2go connection is ok the full scrren is working as expected. (the only problem the first connection is that the keypad does not work). To fix keypad issue, I have to logoff and start a new x2go session. Second connection : After the second connection the xinerama does not work anymore. For example If I maximize an application, it is present on both screens. The worst is that the task bar is located in th middle of the screen. I I tried to logoff and reconnect again I have the same issue. To fix it I have to reboot the centos 6 (client side) and after the first connection is ok (but with the keypad bug). Troubleshooting : - Change task bar location - Change screen resolution - Disable sound and print - I also tried from last Ubuntu or fedora => same issue - I tried to change the video card (from nvidia to an intel) => same issue Any idea to fix this ?
