x2go and ssh-key based login

Hi, To secure an x2go terminalserver enviroment from the bad big world outside we are thinking of implementing ssh-key based authenication. This works wonderfully with unencrypted ssh-keys. With encrypted ssh-keys it won't work because of the password challenge. Is there any way it can work with the x2goclient ? Then we can change the passwords set on the ssh-keys at an interval instead of reissuing ssh-keys. Some observations

I've got some remarks of a co-worker rearding the debian packages : - sudo isn't a dependency of the x2goserver. So installing x2goserver on a machine without sudo installed results in a non-workable sudoers file - the gpg-key of the repository is not on the website but the repository itself is (what about placing the gpg key on the website ?) - the entry being placed in /etc/apt/sources.list lacks the entry for deb-src (debian style). and a remark on my behalf : At this moment we are satisfied with x2goserver as a replacement of freenx and I would like to contribute to this project eg. in the form of writing documentation (I have to this anyway when implementing x2go at customer sites). I've activated "identify connetions" and "allow network connections" in X11. Mac Client and Snow Leopard

We are currently testing the latest Mac client (3.1.0-4) on a laptop running Snow Leopard after installing and deinstalling an older version which didn't work The changelog says the compability is fixed with this release. The problem is we don't get a connection with this client : The client says X11 could not be found, but X11 has already been started (xterm is running). X11 also can be found by the client. Has anybody got the client running in Snow Leopard ? If so, what did you have to do to get the client running ? Many thanks in advance, Jasper van der Marel Stone-IT

Debian Gnome sshfs drives

Strange difference between Ubuntu and Debian Lenny : When attaching al local folder with de client an sshfs drive icon will apear on the desktop. So far so good. But in Ubuntu 9.10 I can click in the drive icon and it will show the sshfs drive. In Debian Lenny 5.0 the drive appears but I cannot "open" it. The links will just appear as a text file (the user is part of the fuse group). Is this a known bug or did I miss something ? With kind regards, Jasper van der Marel Stone-IT

test with x2go in africa

hello, i am now 2 weeks in africa (limbe cameroon) i have allready installed a little network with x2go. we had in the beginning difficulties: i installed on debian 5 and lxde, the machine was in german and we had to change to english. we work without ldap my first technical question: in login in verbindung we can change from lan to modem, when it is on lan the picture on the browser are very bad, when we change to modem the pictures in browser are ok, in wan it is ok too, but in adsl it is bad again, so why? we work with a low power computer, because we will use solar power in the future. server is a mini itx board atom 330 (atom dual core) and clients are mini itx alix board (www.pcengines.ch) we have at the moment 2 clients tomorrow we will test with 3 clients. on the server we have install debian lxde (to have a working place on the server and xen with a x2go server. in switzerland i made test x2go home with ubuntu it was going fine (ubuntu is important for africa, in cameroon exist allready a ubuntu group and we work together as you can see on our homepage http://sokolo.cronopios.org/) now i have seen, or better, i was looking for ubuntu in x2go pages, i did not see ubuntu what does it mean? i wish all the best, warm greetings i like anyway contact, so feel free to mail ... michel

X2Go Ubuntu and Gnome desktop

Hi, I am currently evaluating X2Go to be used as a terminalserver solution. I am running into some problems and I hope someone can help me. When using X2GO a user doesn't get the same environment (variables) as when he logs in trough GDM. So some specific settings like profiles created by Pessulus and Sabayon (kioskprofiles) will not be applied. How can I solve this ? Thanks in advance for your help. Jasper van der Marel

I have a couple of questions regarding X2Go : Are there any major differences between a X2Go debian installation compared to a X2Go Ubuntu installation ? Must I tweak the sshd config on Ubuntu to get the same environment as when logging in with GDM ? Can I use the load balancing features when authenicating against an existing LDAP (RHDS) ? Will there be a webbased frontend for administering X2GO ? De KDE3 modules won't work in Ubuntu anymore. Maybe we can fund this... x2go Single Application sudden session closing

Dear x2go Listers I've found out about x2go at the Dornbirn Linuxday. I've installed x2goserver-home at work on a Ubuntu 8.04 server with a 2.6.24-24-generic #1 SMP - Kernel on a 64 bit machine. Ubuto 9.10 runs on the client with a 2.6.31-14-generic 32 bit machine. Using a Gnome-Session everything run's pretty smooth. The sound-forwarding is nothing short of amazing. Unfortunatly one of my co-workers insist on using a "Single Apllication"-Session. We use Eclipse 3.5.1 which is started from a "Single Application" Terminal. It works, but I have two problems: - Even without Eclipse, the Terminal get's dimmed by Compiz, which it does to all "unresponsive" Application. I don't know how 'responsiveness' is measured by Compiz. The Terminal and Eclipse of course *are* responsive. I've got a workaround though so this isn't so bad. I've changed the Compiz settings under "Effekte" -> "Fenser ein- / ausblenden" -> "Dim Unresponsive Windows" to "off" - The second problem is after some time (sometimes 15-30 Minutes, sometimes up until 2 hours) working with Eclipse the session gets closed without prompting any error. Running the x2goclient in a local terminal I see the messages: """ QProcess: Destroyed while process is still running. QProcess: Destroyed while process is still running. QProcess: Destroyed while process is still running. check command message """ I can then reopen my (now suspended) session without any problems. But it's very annoying being forced to reopen the session ever so often. I don't know how to get further information about this. I can't find any log-files about it. The output on the STDERR (STDOUT?) was the only thing I could find. dear all, is there a documentation for the os x client? i experience the fatal "x11 not found" error, although x11.app is working quite well with other apps and the x2go setup is tested to work with win client. please guide me to some references (tried google already) or give me a hint with this issue. my config: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30) with XQuartz 2.1.6 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple33) cheers, sascha

First, ssh key based auth isn't working anymore for some reason. It still prompts me for password, even if when I click the desktop link which is supposed to be headless, it brings up the x2go client window and prompts for password. Second, the x2go client window seems to use 100% cpu as soon as the connection starts, and doesn't stop (not even if I log out of the remote session) until I close the client window (the one where you do all the configuration, not the actual window to the remote desktop). I've realized it's a problem with the server, as I have another machine that I hadn't gotten around to upgrading the server on, and it works fine. Oh, and all machines (both servers, and the client) are all running ubuntu 9.10 karmic 32bit. Thanks, Doug

Copy and Paste from Windows to x2go-LInux-Firefox (and other?)

Dear List, this is not realy a bug but nevertheless worth to discuss: If one copy text from windows (via ctrl-c) and want to paste it into an xming/x2go-Linux-Application one could have a problem: one usual way windows users act is the following: 1.) select text in windows-app 2.) copy it to clipboard via ctrl-c 3.) select some text in the other (in our case x2go/xming-linux) app which one would like to be replaced (think of the location bar in Firefox) 4.) press ctrl-v to paste the clipboards content Using xming/x2go step 3.) causes a problem. The selected text is copied into x-select buffer and replaces the clipboard content. In step 4.) this content is pasted, not the expected content from step 1.). From the users point of view copy & paste simply doesn't work. I haven't fully understand how clipboard and x-selection buffers are working and if they are correctly supported by xming. I think xming is causing this behavior by copying windows-clipboard content to CLIPBOARD and PRIMARY. Besides this as a workaround, is there a way to disable the x-selection buffer completely? x2go & Kerberos

Hey there, I'm having troubles with running x2go on ldap/kerberos-enabled Ubuntu machines. If I try to login via x2go to an account that's in the server's local /etc/passwd, everything works as expected. But if I try to login via x2go to an account that's not in the server's passwd, but in ldap/kerberos, the x2go white login dialog disappears, but nothing else happens. With the same kerberiz'ed account I can locally login on the server machine just fine. Thinclient doesn't work any more

Hi, after the package update the thinclient doesn't work any more. It boots up correctly and displays the X2GoClient-Login. But when I enter any credentials and press "OK" a white box appears (for a few milli seconds) and then I'm back to the login screen. How can I fix this? Best regards, Sven

Single client multiple silmultaneous server connections...

I've been running into some trouble and it seems like this is not possible. I'm using x2goserver on multiple servers (one at home, one at work) and it doesn't seem to be possible to connect to both at the same time. Is there a work around to allow this, or do I have to suspend one and resume the other all the time? The problem seems to be when the reverse ssh connection is set up. It always seems to use the same port (perhaps dependant on the remote display number, which is 50 on both machines I'm connecting to since I'm the only user). I apologize if this was already discussed on the list, but I couldn't find any info in the archives. Thanks, Doug

Moin ich hab es inzwischen geschafft das x1go läuft und auch das alle Einträge im LDAP vorhanden sind, so das der x2goclient nicht meckert. aber ich würde gerne wissen, wie ich per ldiff neue Server unter ou=server,ou=ON,... hinzufüge. da die kde tools ja leider unter kde4 den dienst verweigern und ich eh kein freund von kde bin ;)

Hello, I have installed x2goserver on a Debian Etch machine and I added myself to the x2gousers group. But I cannot get contact from a client on Debian Lenny. I don't see an error. Is it possible to connect from a new client to a X2goserver on Debian Etch? Is it possible to install the X2go version for Lenny on Etch? With regards, Paul van der Vlis.

You can test this for example with audaciuos (has a pulseaudio output plugin). Furthermore you've need to make sure, that the local (client side) pulseaudio device can be used and the local user has the rights to use it. You can test this, by using a local installed application. The server side flashplayer needs to be configured to use pulseaudio - this is not a preconfigured feature. But I've seen to a Via Thin Client with 1 GHZ performing really poor because of it's GPU. If you use the GTK Client, you won't need time to render SVG, but I don't think it is a real problem, if the initial display with the user information would take 4-5 seconds. More important would be, if the local device has enough power to encode and display the remote screen. Hi, I have had some time to test a bit around with the sound issue`s I had. After I have filled in what`s described here http://www.pro-linux.de/berichte/x2go-ubuntu.html at the end of the Page. It works now with the x2goclient for Windows. They are able to use the sound. When I try to connect from a Debian Machine for example it won`t work. I have no idea why but if Im trying to log in as the same user from a Windows client it works fine. At least a bit oft it ;). YouTube and other video platforms won`t work. I think this is a pulseaudio related thing. Unfortunately Videos are too slow. Would it help to install the commercial Graphics driver from ATI for instance on the server? This said, the Qt engine’s SVG renderer will take 5 seconds to display the login manager under these circumstances. So, if 800 MHz is not enough, what would be enough? What about RAM? 2. Remote sound/remote USB device access

Hi x2go folks, first of all - is there a user mailinglist available? If have just successfully setup x2go on a Debian Lenny based server and a set of diskless remote booting thin clients. (I talked about "hacking" Debian's boot process merging a read-only nfs filesystem and tmpfs in order to easily remote boot x2go clients some months ago.) Nevertheless remote sound and remote USB device access refuses to work. Is there a piece of documentation/howto on this topic? E.g. does pulseaudio has to be installed, enabled as daemon on the server/client side? Howto test, debug...? Do remote sound/USB device access require any configuration on the server/client side? hello, we are testing x2go. we made an installation with debian lenny with xen and an x2goserver as virtual machine without ldap. (with ldap it was never working) it works but the sound is not going. what are the conceptual differences between NX and X2GO concerning the treatement of local device, for example audio card. another problem: in LTSP we have a file lts.conf, where the client can be separetely configured, exist such a file in x2go? we just test test the x2goserver-one as package in a xen virtual machine the client will not start, it says Connection failed 192.168.1.86: cat: /home/a/.x2go/C-a-50-1256917694_stDGNOME_dp32/cmdoutput: No such file or directory i control on the server, this file does not exist. test of x2goserver-home on ubuntu machine ubuntu 9.10 (not as xen virtual machine) client works fine. paul michel

hi, i'm new to x2go. i am using x2goserver-one on debian lenny server with a gnome-desktop. i receive the following errors in x2goclient when connecting using x2goclient-gtk or x2goclient-qt4: "Cant read host rsa key:/etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key.pub" though the file is readable: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 393 2009-10-23 10:43 /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key.pub After that the following error pops up: "Unable to read : .pub" Anyone an idea on that? Dear X2go developers and users, since some time I sometimes cannot connect with my client to the server. The system the server is running on gets also used as a desktop machine. I think the issue is surfaces when a second user logs into the system using for example GNOME’s switch-user-applet. I do not know when this problem started. I am using Debian unstable/sid. A big change was the upgrade to GNOME 2.28 and the X.org server (1:7.4 +4). When the problem occurs `nxproxy -S` $ nxproxy -S NXPROXY - Version 3.3.0 Copyright (C) 2001, 2007 NoMachine. Hi, so let me see if I got this right now. The users which are in /etc/group have to be in the LDAP tree as well to guarantee that X2go works right? Well Im sorry but im pretty new with LDAP and so I have just added my users with "adduser user x2gousers" like it is described in the manual. I would really love to try X2GO out with LDAP support to have the full functionality, especially the Thinclient things. Basically I have just done what´s in the manual without giving a [LDAPMASTER URI] in the genconf Script and creatings the certificates. I have no idea how to check that LDAP is working correctly. Hi, so I think I have found at least one of the reasons why it's not working. I have just recognized that I have 62336 E-Mails in /var/mail :). x2goclient hangs on login

Hello list, this is my very first post to this list and Im quite sure a few will follow ;). Anyway I have a Problem with the configuration of X2goserver. Im finished with the LDAP stuff and so on and want to try it out now. But for some reason after logging in with the X2goclient it hangs right after clicking on "Ok". On serverside some processes starting up but nothing happens... I haven´t complete the PXE, ATFTPD and DHCP stuff and so on but the normal connect via x2goclient should work, right? Hello Paul, even if the "pg" in the name shows the origen, the use of this operation is to drop broken sessions out of the database. This is done with pg dbs and sqlite. It's clear that you can run x2goserver without this cleaning, as long as you don't have broken sessions. Our libs are installed in /usr/lib/x2go, so they don't mix up with the QTNX libs. Of cause it would be a good idea to change this to fit to the debian rules. NXagent would be necessary only for x2goserver. We made some changes to NXagent so it can be used with our x2goclient on Maemo.
