Single application gets suspended with mouse move and click on window decoration

Hi all, I have a weird issue with x2go on Lucid in single application mode. Whenever I start an application and move mouse and click on the window decoration, the client gets disappeared. Seems session gets suspended on the client side. I can resume it late. But it will suspended again if I move mouse and click on the window decoration again. After some investigation, I find that when I move mouse and click on the window decoration, x2gosuspend-agent was called. So I comment the "export NX_CLIENT=/usr/bin/x2gosuspend-agent" in x2gostartagent. The issue disappear. I also check the nxcomp source code, find that client path will point to "/usr/NX/bin/nxclient" if NX_CLIENT environment is not set, which confuse me. My questions is what is the usage of NX_CLIENT? Hi all, Is it possible someone can update the website with news and stuff happening and say where to download which programs from where? Its getting a bit hard to follow everything. Also will documents be updated to reflect the changes? I think a more detailed doc is needed for x2goplugin. Anyway great stuff happening keep on X2GOing! Tks in advance Eric

Here's my 2c on this... Neatx got released and basically went nowhere. There hasn't been any new features developed just a few bug fixes and nothing recent. And to boot, it's slow. Freenx has all but died. It has languished for a very long time. So I don't see any reason to push anything toward those projects. rdesktop connection with program-parameters

Hello, i do my first testing with an x2go-server. The first bigger problem is relatet to an rdesktop-connection. I need to bypass an parameter to a windows programm. I select in the X2go client -> Settings -> Windows Terminal Server and put following in the "Erweiterte Einstellungen" (in german): -d domain.com -n xyz -c \'\\\\Server\\Program\' -s \'\\\\Server\\Program\\Program.exe R=xyz\' The connection fail (it's about the ' ), but if i do a "ssh -X user@x2go-server", i see the right command: cat .x2go/C-user-94-1277905770_stRRDP_dp24/cmdoutput exec rdesktop -g 1024x768 -d domain.com -n xyz -c '\\Server\Program' -s '\\Server\Program\Program.exe R=xyz' 192.168.10.100 and a "chmod +x .x2go/C-user-94-1277905770_stRRDP_dp24/cmdoutput; .x2go/C-user-94-1277905770_stRRDP_dp24/cmdoutput" start the program right. It looks like, that x2go has problem with the apostrophe. Any help are wellcome! Best regards Udo

LDAP integration call for help

Hi there, after havine played with x2goserver-one/sqlite for a while I am testing x2goserver with LDAP/Postgres setup. The Postgres setup was easy, thanks to the wiki (there are some essential typos in the wiki page, I have registered with the wiki to fix them). But LDAP... My very first impression is - and maybe I am wrong - that the LDAP-Server setup is far to rigid (I will speak openly). I use x2go over the internet, thus every connection I make has to be encrypted and needs authentication. 1. LDAPS support the x2goclient does not support LDAPS... Does it support StartTLS somewhere hidden in its guts? Otherwise, LDAPS is definitely an item for the x2go wishlist 2. LDAP Auth the x2goclient does not support LDAP auth. At least simple_bind_s should be possible... -> wishlist. When exactly does the x2goclient access the LDAP db? I suppose before authentication to one of the x2goservers. I wonder, if LDAP access was possible to also tunnel LDAP access through ssh... (i.e. after session login). 3. Documentation of Internas The LDAP scripts in the x2goldaptools package help to setup an LDAP server from scratch. This is not what people might want if they migrate a site. For site migration to x2go without help of your setup scripts the internas of the LDAP communication/data storage methods must be documented better (e.g. difference between server and host in LDAP -> serial = 1, scratchscratch...). 4. Admin DN... The migration/setup scripts pre-requisite cn=ldapadmin,$BASE as admin DN. This is too rigid! There is a config file for LDAP settings (/etc/x2go/x2goldaptools.conf). This one should be used for putting information on the LDAP database. 5. Admin DN secret... The migration tools take the LDAP admin password from /etc/libnss_ldap.secret. Also the ldap secret should be retrieved from /etc/x2go/x2goldaptools.conf, or even better from a /etc/x2go/x2goldaptools.secret file (0600:root:root). It might well be that people setup a special x2goadmin account in LDAP for the purpose of administrating x2go relevant LDAP-objects. 6. LDAP storage structures Really big organizations group there LDAP data into ous. One ou for one department at work (e.g. ou=sales,$BASE; ou=management,$BASE; etc.). Within these ous they store sub-ous like group, people, hosts etc. Sometimes they even have ou based Administrators. cn=admin,ou=sales,$BASE ou=people,ou=sales,$BASE ou=group,ou=sales,$BASE ou=hosts,ou=sales,$BASE cn=admin,ou=support,$BASE ou=people,ou=support,$BASE ou=group,ou=support,$BASE ou=hosts,ou=support,$BASE ... This is an approach the system and user management software GOsa² goes, also AD structures often look like this. I wonder if x2go is flexible enough to handle structures like these... 7. Active Directory This might be overkill now, but has anyone tried to store x2go users, hosts and groups in AD??? With support of winbind, maybe? 8. Why LDAP? Could anyone explain me, what x2go explicitly needs LDAP for? What information is stored in LDAP that could not be replaced by any other libnss services. (Has anyone ever thought to use netgroups and pam_access for machine access control, BTW?). 9. Load-Balancing Could also anyone hint to me, how load-balancing in multi-server setup works with x2go? I guess this question is related to LDAP... Loads of questions, sorry, but I couldn't get LDAP functionality running out of the box with my already existing LDAP setup. home dirs with x2go

hi list-folks, what kind of home dir setup does x2go expect/support. 1. Scenario I tried... My default scenario: homes rest on an NFS server, homes are mounted as NFS homes with kerberos security (sec=krb5i or sec=krb5p). Everything seems to work fine apart from x2go printing (I mentioned this issue in another posting). 2. Scenario I tried... I have two x2goservers, tied together with postgres, but without explicit x2go LDAP tweaks. Each server has its own homes, only real data (no configs) is shared via Autofs-NFS in /home/<user>/MyDocuments. x2goplugin: minor suggestion/wish

Hi Heinz, 1. is it possible to configure the x2goplugin in a way that after a session is over the login dialog appears instantly again. Currently, I have to press on ,,Neue Verbindung'' to get the login window back. If there is no possibility for this yet, it might be a nice feature (e.g. as config option). 2. Is it also possible to offer a list of different session types within the x2goplugin-login-dialog (e.g. offer to select KDE or GNOME) from within the same x2goplugin-URL? Hello all new to the list, I just wan't to comment on a number of complaints about the "needed membership" to write to the mailing list "x2go-dev". At the moment you can only write to the list, after you've registered your email address. This is done, because if everybody can write to the list we would receive a lot of spam. I have to delete really a lot of "non accepted/hold" messages per day which are normally spam only. I can understand, that not everybody wants to register to such a service - but the very popular alternative "forum" needs registration too. I need to write about this issue, because there are complaints about the level which must be taken to send informations to our project/community. I'll describe how to handle the list in our new wiki, and I'll definitly promote the service of gmane (making a list look like a forum). Heinz

We get this problem quite a lot in our server racks using KVM switches where the keyboard will get out of sync with the desktop. Some of the KVM's have you depress both Shift keys at the same time to toggle things back in sync. Num Lock is a different story. Sometimes you just have to quickly press it until it gets back in sync. I mention this because this same type of problem appears to affect x2go as well from what you were saying. Hello, all. We have had numerous complaints about CAPS lock and NUM lock getting out of sync between the physical and virtual desktops. We at first attributed it to accessing the same virtual desktop from potentially different physical desktops. Upon further investigation we see the following: When the lock is toggled from the virtual desktop, the change is reflected on both virtual and physical desktops When the lock is toggled from the physical desktop, the change is reflected only in the physical desktop; it has no effect on the X2Go session. This puts the locks out of sync. If the user then realizes their lock is not on in the virtual desktop and then toggles it in their virtual desktop, it also toggles in their physical desktop which now keeps them out of sync. I would imagine this is a challenging problem to solve but is it possible for the X2Go client to detect a CAPS/NUM lock toggle even when the X2Go desktop does not have focus and reflect that through to the X2Go desktop session?

Heinz, If I may enquire for a second, what should we put in the server.x2go file? I've got the plugin files on my webserver and I'm just getting a big outline box on the page. The plugin notice is working and then the user can install the plugin but after that just the big outline appears. thx, Gerry

Heinz, I would hope people would understand the huge amount of work it takes especially for a small team to maintain the communication. Gmane is really excellent and you can choose which format that you like to view the content. So a mailing list can look like a blog, a forum, a newsfeed, etc. x2go is looking good in the latest versions. Looking forward to testing the new release when it is ready. Cannot enable fullscreen on Windows 7

I have x2goserver-home setup and working properly on an Ubuntu host and using Ubuntu guests. However, when I connect to the server using a Windows 7 client, I cannot enable fullscreen. I configure the session to use full screen in the client, but still the client shows up using the metrics and not fullscreen. Is this a common issue, and how do I solve it? One last thing. Heinz, is it possible to get the plugin <div> to automatically resize to a Custom Display Size setting? It seems like it always wants to be 800x600 no matter what I set the custom size. I must say, it is a fabulous project/product and as I will probably have needs for a SBC/TC environment like x2go I would like to offer support, skills and resources: o vhosts for testing (on root servers, available sometime in September/Octobre) this year) o webspace, db-storage, kolab groupware accounts o skills in Perl, Python, PHP o genuine skills in Ubuntu/Debian system administration o genuine skills in communication (at least I hope I have them) o I won't be much help with the x2goclient, but I think I can add great support to the server aspects of x2go... I live in Kiel, Germany and currently I am working on a SBC/Opensource concept for a couple of grammar schools herearound. During the testing of x2go I have stumbled over quite some issues that I would like to report to the current developer team. As I have found no bugtracker with the project, I guess addressing the x2go-dev list will be best, won't it? I would like to open a single thread per issue (as opposed to stuffing all issues into one longish mail). So discussion can wrap around each thread individually... As I understand a new release of x2go is coming up soon. Thus, I would like to avoid reporting deprecated issues/bugs/problems. Are there any release candidates, yet? Or is the git repository already up, so I can take a look into the sources? Let me know how I can support your team! Hi there again, 2 issues with CUPS/X2GO printing... 1st issue: ========== when mounting home directories via NFS (NFS3 with root_squash, NFS4 with any kind of Kerberos security feature) you cannot copy a file as superuser ,,root'' to a user's HOME (x2goprint is called via sudo(NOPASSWD) in the cups-x2go backend). The logical error is in the last stanza of the x2goprint file... (quoted and marked below). Maybe there is already a solution for this. Hi there, in the current x2goclient package (3.01-5, Debian, Qt version) there is need for an option to configure the reverse SSH port number (i.e. the SSH daemon's port on the client side). This option should be a client wide config option (not a per-session option). Printing and file sharing (sshfs/fuse) build up a reverse port forwarding tunnel from the x2goserver back to the client. This feature is used for x2goprint and x2gomountdirs (if I understand the perl code correctly) and could also be used for any other feature that could be evoked by a reverse SSH connection... The linux x2goclient, however, pre-requisites a running ssh daemon on the client system. Its standard port is 22. The x2goclient will only work if the client's SSH daemon runs on the default port 22. It will fail if the port has been set to a custom (high) port. Consider a client, whose system administrator has set the SSH port to a high --- to potential intruders unknown --- port number (e.g. 20222). With such an SSH setup, sshfs/fuse will fail... Reproduce: o modify /etc/ssh/sshd_config o set ,,Port 20222'' (or something else) o /etc/init.d/ssh restart o start x2goclient as some user and login to a remote x2goserver o start a shell within the x2go session on the server o type ,,mount | grep sshfs'' Suggestions: (a) add a global SSH port number option to the x2goclient (linux-only). (b) Another way for the x2goclient could be some autodetect code: lsof -ni | egrep "^sshd.*root.*IPv4" | awk '{ print $8 }' (c) Another way, similar to the windows client, could be to run a separate ssh instance that binds to a random port on the localhost lo-device only. Hi there, pulseaudio in x2goclient (Windows, 3.0.1-5) is probably missing a patch that was introduced on 2009/05/18. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26903656/lp-348540-pulsesink.patch When connecting from Windows to Ubuntu Lucid, pulseaudio crashes once you start totem to play an mp3 or other file. Hi there, here is a little --- what seems to me like a --- bug report... SERVER (Ubuntu Lucid) x2goserver-home: 3.0.1-1 x2goserver-one: 3.0.1-1 x2goserver: 3.0.1-5 CLIENT (Debian Lenny; Ubuntu Karmic/Lucid) x2goclient: 3.0.1-5 When logging in to the x2goserver with an account that is not in the x2gousers group on the x2goserver, I see hundreds of sudo errors in the auth.log file on the server (about 50-60, every 5 seconds): <quote> Jun 23 13:12:46 <hostname> sudo: <uid> : no tty present and no askpass program specified ; TTY=unknown ; PWD=<homedir> ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/x2gopgwrapper insertsession <pid> <fqdn.hostname> <session-id> </quote> To my understanding, the x2goserver should just say: ,,NO, you are not supposed to login, as you are not in the x2gousers group on this server... FEATURE-REQUESTS: increase log/debug output

Hi, I find debugging of the x2go server side script a bit difficult. IMHO there could/should be more verbosity explaining processings and failures in the x2goserver logs. Of course, this should be configurable --- i.e. it needs a switch to be turned on or off... If there is a concept on how to log events in the x2goserver, please let me know and I would love to add debug verbosity. Hi, I'm getting crazy with x2go home server when I read all users installation works at the first. I have done step by step installation in ubuntu and looks like all works fine (no errors at installation time). After when I'm try to connect from client side I get always the same error: Connection failed. cat: /home/<user_that_is_trying_connect>/.x2go/C-<user_that_is_trying_connect>-<some_numbers>_stDGNOME_DP<some_numers>/ cmdoutput: No such file or directory All users are in groups x2gousers and fuse. ssh is enabled and I connect with no problems. I'm using a ubuntu 10.04 clean box. Somebody knows what's wrong? Thanks, Ricardo Díaz

Hi List, Well, actually it is not that difficult to export from the server to the client. In fact, as the user directory is mounted and the user is logged on to the server and is executing our system, it is quite easy. From our system we write the file to the mounted directory and voila it is on the client. No problems with authorization either, because the user himself is writing to the mounted directory. The next part is trickier. If we want to start the application on the client we should have a command in x2go so that it signals the x2goclient to start the specific file. So no polling, but simply an extra command that is called on the server and sends a message to the client. Now this means a change in the client, and a protocol for the message that is used. Furthermore a command on the server should be there to signal the start of the program on the client. This could be something like "x2gorunclient path-to-the-file" Added is a drawing of the different parts of the extension. I hope it clears any misunderstanding of what I want. The yellow marked boxes are to be changed, so the x2gorunclient command is to be created and the client has to be changed so it will understand the signal of the x2gorunclient command, interpret it and start the file. So your application runs on a a Linux X2Go Server. The user clicks the icon on their desktop and launches an X2Go Client which presents your application as a window on their physical desktop. You then want your application to be able to copy an excel spreadsheet to the physical computer where it will automatically open using whatever application on the physical computer is associated with the mime-type. Is that correct? If so, I'd imagine there is a way but it might be a little tricky. The full client (as opposed to the Firefox plugin I've been testing) allows one to automount local shares. I suppose one could do this to a consistent place (that might present some cross platform difficulties). I'm not sure how one would automate the process of copying to that local share mounted in /tmp/<uid_media which is soft links to ~/media. I'm also not sure if there will be permissions issues trying to copy to the physical computer unless the copy is done as the user. I'm also not sure how one would get it to auto-open upon copy. I suppose one could write some sort of script to poll the directory where the files are stored. Certainly getting out of my depth now!
