hello, installation with ldap: the program x2goclient ( in /opt/x2gothinclient/usr/bin ) starts, but exits with the message "cannot connect to X server" . the parameter file /opt/x2gothinclient/etc/default/x2gothinclient is present, but also if it is not present it gives the same error-messages. please send us the necessary information about parametrisation of this program. the program is started again and again on the thin-client("endless loop"). michel and paul

Prevent session suspending and resuming

Hi, I would like to do a simple thing, but x2goserver (apparently propose no option/configuration). Is this : [limit users] #beispielb=1 [limit groups] #x2gousers=1 The only options available ? I would like to do two things : - prevent users from suspending their session - prevent users from resuming their session The reason why is that I would propose Firefox session for my users, each with a different profile (managed by my webapp), but all on one account on the computer. Right now, if an user starts the session, he can see all the sessions (other users, and other kind of session). Is there a way to prevent this ? Or use some kind of "filter" command automatically ? Note : I really can't use multiple accounts on the computer. Regards, gml

plugin is crashing firefox on Ubuntu 10.04 i386

Installation went fine. When trying to connect to the test server the browser (firefox 3.6.6) is crashing with the following error: firefox-bin: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0. firefox-bin: ../../src/xcb_io.c:249: process_responses: Assertion `(((long) (dpy->last_request_read) - (long) (dpy->request)) <= 0)' failed. Aborted firefox-bin: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0. creating a new firefox profile did not work. any other ideas? Soeren

I've come across some stuff on the www about x2go plugin for firefox. Since I'm having problems connecting to my server with the windows client, I've been wondering if the plugin would help accomplish the same thing. so, will the plugin connect just like the client? i've added the plugin but I see no way to modify the server URL or username or any other connection details.

If its just the size of the file that's a problem can you possibly just quota the log file's size? Manage Log File size on Ubuntu<http://www.watchingthenet.com/how-to-manage-log-file-size-archive-deletion.…>is one writeup which gives a lot of detail on how to use LogRotate. I think this is the Man page for LogRotate<http://linuxcommand.org/man_pages/logrotate8.html> . If you are just trying to figure out how to reduce the number of messages the above won't help. Hello, we use the x2goserver-home with ubuntu and debian lenny as x2go-Thinclients. x2goserver: nxcompshad 3.4.0-1-1 x2goagent 3.4.0-3-1 x2goserver 3.0.1-5 x2goserver-home 3.0.1-1 x2goserver-one 3.0.1-1 x2goclient: pinentry-x2go 0.7.5-2 x2goclient 3.01-5 x2gothinclient 1.0.1-1 x2gousbmount 1.0.1-1 The main function of this system is the fast change between different pcs with the same session. But sometimes we have to stop the session, because after reconnect we doesn't got the screen. The log-files say that the session is resumed. What can i do to reconnect this session? --- Another problem is the change of keyboard-settings. In the session change the encoding we can only close the session and start a new one. thank you, Falk

Hi developers, nxagent 3.4.0-3-9-0 used by x2go has the issue of writing millions of "nxagentHandleReparentNotify: WARNING! Failed QueryTree request." to session log. And according to "http://www.nomachine.com/tr/view.php?id=TR10G02287", this issue was fixed in nxagent-3.4.0-4. I also notice that nxagent-3.4.0-5.tar.gz has already been in the repository. Is there any plan to update nxagent recently? Thanks in advance. Max

Windows client crashing on WinXP

I just found out about the project and I've setup the server on a debian lenny install @ home. grabbed the windows client (Version 3.01-4) to connect from my windows XP install @ work, and the client crashes before it even asks to authenticate the server key. Been trying different things for a while now, with no results. First a message pops up saying the connection timed out. When I click the OK button or after a few seconds, the windows "program crashed" dialog shows up and terminates the application. I have a linux install inside a VM, I tried the gtk client there, and it works... I can connect just fine. But the windows client is not working for me. Any ideas how to fix it? or debug it?\ Any help is appreciated Thanks

Recommendation for mass conncections

We're an educational testing Center (http://www.nite.org.il/index.php/en.html) In the course of evaluating x2go as a possible solution for online testing, we're grappling with the issue of authentication. We need to establish a procedure by which each student has credentials on the server (by some automatic procedure which we still have to implement) and have each student authenticated at login either via user/password or public key. Since the test is one single application, there is no need for a desktop. It appears that providing each student with a username and password on the system is overkill. After all, she will only have to be authenticated once or twice to be tested by the application and then the authentication is expired. We'd greatly appreciate some advice or pointers on which authentication route to pursue for our needs. Thanks, Yitzhak

Heinz, I went looking for the source code at http://git.x2go.org/ today but there is nothing there. Is the source code at some other URL? I think a lot of questions could be answered and good contributions suggested if the source was readily available which it should be since x2go is linking NX GPL-v2 libraries. Gerry

Bouncing firefox plugin

We have had some complaints from clients in the last few days where they have installed a fresh copy of firefox and then the latest plugin and the login screen bounces up and down unusably. That is, the blue login area drops below the black background and then back up again. There is apparently some known issue with the latest Firefox on sub-10" screens where this is a problem with Firefox. However, one client has experienced it on two normal sized laptops and we've not heard about the Firefox problem affecting those. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix or workaround? Hello, it appears from the documentation that the only method of using load balancing is to use the x2goldaptools. Is this accurate? We use Likewise to authenticate against our Active Directory for our NX server, but were looking at x2go to replace FreeNX in order to use x2go's load balancing. Some other questions: I am assuming that you haven't tested the x2goldaptools against active directory, but is there any way you could elaborate a bit more on exactly what the x2goldaptools do? Does it use your existing ldap server users and groups to authenticate? If so, does it need to have a group "x2gousers" with corresponding users in order for the users to be authenticated? Does x2go, once the x2goldaptools are installed, immediately stop looking at any one server's users? If Active Dir supports ldap querying through ldap:// URLs, do you expect this would work like any other LDAP server? Are there any other ways to support load balancing without the x2goldaptools? Hello, all. We have two clients interested in using thin clients to access X2Go Server. This is not an area of expertise for me. I do see the documentation on creating an image for a thin client with X2Go as the display manager. However, does anyone know of any thin clients that will run relatively "off-the-shelf" with X2Go either by using the firefox plugin or a simple installation of the standard X2Go client? When suspending an x2go session the local shared directory gets unmounted properly on the server, but the desktop link (GNOME) remains on the desktop. SABAYON-Userprofiles and X2GO

Hello at all, I 'm not sure whether this is the correct place to post my question. But I can't find a forum or wiki for x2go-User and Admin questions. So, I use this mailing-list. Since a few weeks I'm testing x2go. Everything works fine, but now, I have a problem. To create Gnome-Userprofiles, I use the Profileditor "Sabayon" ( http://live.gnome.org/Sabayon http://live.gnome.org/Sabayon ). The generation of the profiles and the assignment to the users work without any issue. But together with x2go, there is a (for me a big) problem. When a new user run a X2GO Session, he receive the Standard-Gnome Desktop instead of the „Sabayon“-Desktop. But when he first logged in localy on the Server, the assignment of the „Sabayon“-Desktop works on X2GO Sessions too. In my opinion , Sabayon is a good and easy tool for Administrators to handle the useraccess on the applications at the TS-Server. But it isn't feasible in a production environment with a lot of users, that every user first logged in localy on the server. NOMACHINE has published an article ( http://www.nomachine.com/ar/view.php?ar_id=AR10F00516 http://www.nomachine.com/ar/view.php?ar_id=AR10F00516 ) with the solution for this issue with NOMACHINE NX-Server. After I have adjusted the Sabayon Configuration on Ubuntu 10.04 (there are a few differences between Sabayon on Fedora and Sabayon on Ubuntu), i have make a test with the „Nomachine NX-Free Edition“ (not FreeNX) and it works indeed. Now I'm searching for the solution with X2GO. So, my two question are 1. Is there a possibilty in the X2GO-Configuration to configure a „UserScriptAfterSessionStart“ like in the Nomachine NX-Node configuration ? If yes, how ? 2. Is it possible to publish only Applications (not the whole Desktop) for users/usergroups ? If yes, how work it ? Thanks a lot for your help. Hellow, Do I need to configure some things extra on my windows xp computer to be able to hear pulseadio? At the moment i have a server running pulseaudio, when I connect with the Audio parameter set in the session. I get the following: the loged in user types: alsamixer (e.g) -> Unable to connect: connection refused When i check my progress list i see the process pulseaudio.exe so it is running. Dear members, Currently I'm switchin from FreeNx to x2go. i must say everything looks very good! Especially when using linux platforms only. When using the windows client I've had the following problem. When trying to open a session: A first dialog with an empty msg, title: "Host key verification failed ..." and option "Yes" and "No". Pressing Yes opend up the same dialog again. Pressing No give me the error: "ssh_askpass: No such file or directory Host key verification failed." The client is installed on a system that has the latest cygwin installed. I was already using ssh and sshd from the cygwin package. This gave conflicting cygwin1.dll versions. Copy the latest dll the x2go folder did not resolve the problem completely. A new error occured, something like could not create directory /home/mz/ssh. I don't remember the exact error msg. I did a full scan of all cygwin1.dll. I found that I was running a little tool on the background (xplanet) that was also using a cygwin1.dll but a much older one. After closing down that tool, restoring the x2go original cygwin1.dll to its folder and trying again... All is well ... I started up my cron and sshd services again with the new cygwin1.dll and starting the x2go client with its original dll. Everything worked again! I just want to share this information, maybe put it in the faq or something. When using the windows client, be carefull to look for other (older) cygwin1.dlls For the rest I'm very happy using x2go. Hi there, today I have created Debian/Ubuntu keyring packages for diverse projects. Once I had the template package ready it didn't take much time to create also a package for x2go: x2go-keyring When creating the package I realized a non-standard situation with x2go packages. As I understand it with Debian, you have maintainer keys and keyring keys. The package maintainers sign .deb packages with their private gpg keys (e.g. my key for m.gabriel(a)das-netzwerkteam.de) If you have several maintainers within a project then---depending on the changelog entries---the maintainer who has modified a package signs it with his key. That's what's the maintainer keys are for. For uploading packages to a repository a shared generic key for signing repository files (Release.gpg etc.) is used (e.g. debian(a)das-netzwerkteam.de) (Maybe someone can confirm if this key is indeed shared...) However, the x2go repository files are also signed by Alex's maintainer key as are the package files. To my understanding they optimally should be signed by some generic key instead. If people will share their work on one repository site replacing this key by a generic key some time might be useful. Temporarily, in the x2go-keyring package I placed Alex's key as maintainer key as well as keyring key. On install the package will place two files on your system: /usr/share/keyrings/x2go-keyring.gpg /usr/share/keyrings/x2go-maintainers.gpg The key in the x2go-keyring.gpg file are then added to the APT keyring: apt-key add /usr/share/keyrings/x2go-keyring.gpg On package removal the keys in x2go-keyring.gpg are removed from the APT keyring again. I will send a tar.gz to Alex, maybe Heinz and Alex will find a Debian keyring for x2go packages useful and will place it on their server. @Alex: if you send me a generic x2go keyring key (e.g. debian(a)obviously-nice.de) I can add it to the package and send you the updated version. Hey list, the state of Lower Saxony, Germany is currently developing a portable learning environment for schools - see http://www.n-stick.de . Some schools with a good internet connection asked whether it is possible to start and run applications on a remote terminal server within this platform. Apart from that it might happen that the state will run a terminal server cluster that provides a standard set of educational applications ready to use through VPN/web. These ideas and requirements made me have a deeper look at the internals of x2go and I developed a python library that can be used to easily build an x2go client - on win32 and linux. getting features inside neatx/freenx instead of developing something different

Hello x2go list, I've added one of my not so important mail accounts to this list to share my opinion about nx based development in the future. I don't like mailing lists because they only collect spam (to add my opinion to a already discussed topic). I've read some of the mesages here and I've taken a look to this project. I really don't think this is a good idea to work on a not compatible nx server. There are already enough free servers and clients in the world and we all should try to save a amount of compatibility to all projects. There is also a plugin for mozilla (moznx) so you won't need to develop a own. Although i like the idea of the file transport and print module of x2go (pulseaudio too is already possible with opennx). If you would change to python, i would help you to get things to work with neatx/freenx. Then you too would have no problem with the packaging, because everything you need is already done. What do you think about at minimum getting those interesting features build up in external programms, so you can use it with all nx servers (or even vncs)? eli

SSH Ident File

Hi, had an odd issue today where a user attempted to mount a share, the folder appeared on the X2Go server, but then disappeared. I added a debug line to x2gomountdirs on the server and found that the SSH key it was attempting to use to create the ident file, for the reverse SSH Fuse, was different to the latest one under their ~/.x2go/ssh/ directory ??? Where is that key stored on the local/physical workstation ? or is it encoded into their session cookie ? The workaround was to ask the user to terminate their X2Go session; delete all contents from their local .x2go and the server .x2go directory. When they connected again they were able to mount shares successfully. -- Thanks, Phil

Good morning, we have people accessing a Debian x2go installation. Some are using Linux based clients. They work without a hitch. The problem are the people using Windows 7. They are unable to work with the client for more than a minute or two. We have a Java App running on the server (ADempiere), and the latest released x2go-client 3.01-4 How can we pinpoint what is going wrong? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Connection waiting

Hi, I would like to know if I'm the only one in this case. I've installed x2go client and server (with the normal and the heuler repos), on two fresh installations of Ubuntu 10.04. I can start the client, and try a connection. But it stalls to "connection", and nothing happens. With desktop sharing I can see my local connections, but when I click on "view only" or "full control" nothing happens too. x2go was perfectly working with Ubuntu 10.04 upgraded from 9.10. BUG?: plugin stuck in auth rejection

Using plugin 3.01-11. I logged into a session and then later terminated that session. However, the session termination was a little strange in that it kept respawning connection processes and then terminating over and over. So I press the Back button to go back to the plugin website page. There I reload and relaunch the plugin. then I put in my password and now it refuses to log me in. Problems on Debian Squeeze

Is there any special magic to running X2Go on Debian Squeeze? We upgraded an x2goserver to Squeeze from Lenny and we can no longer connect. The X2Go client just says connecting. We can see the ssh sessions are established and it looks like x2gostartagent is running. The database is set up and running. The users are members of x2gousers, fuse, various pulse groups. We changed the default shell from dash to bash as, if I recall correctly, there are functions in the X2Go bash scripts that are not supported in dash. We reinstalled X2Go after remembering that. We deleted all the old .Xauthority files. We double-checked /etc/ssh/sshd_config to ensure we had X11 Forwarding enabled. We can run X apps like xterm and kate via an ssh connection. I'm not entirely sure where to look next without major troubleshooting. Is anyone using X2Go on Squeeze successfully? Thanks - John

latest plugin testing

Heinz, I ran some tests with the latest plugin today and here are some things I noticed: When displaying a single rootless app, as soon as I place the cursor over the title bar it kills the window. Only happens with the x2go remote app window. Running gnome-terminal natively either locally or remotely displays it correctly. But, when I displayed a single rootless app (gnome-terminal) from a user that had Wine installed, the border was the same as all my other local windows but the palette and menues were all Wine styled and looked like Windows 98. Remote shares work fine. Printing did not work - no spool mount. DPI and compression do not set on whole desktops. They do set on single rootless apps. That's everything I've noticed so far. Gerry

Hi x2go-folks, here is another question to the developers... When talking to school teachers here in Kiel, there was a very central demand to thin client work stations: run application on the thin client hardware. in schools this is needed for: o accessing USB-devices like LEGO mind storm robots etc. o starting development environments on the thin client CPU (e.g. eclipse) so that programming of ROBOT devices can be tested locally o play media (DVD, AVI on CD or USB-Stick) on the thin client o start firefox locally (but with the user's profile), esp. because of flash media, but also animations on websites As I know, in LTSP there is a solution for that (a weird bash script called ltsp-localapp or so). My question: is there also an idea or an approach for x2go how local CPU usage of thin clients could be implemented? I suppose, there is no implementation yet, is it? My basic idea of how it could be done: o mount $HOME of the x2goserver on the client via sshfs, this mount should be tunneled through the main SSH connection (I know this is the other way round compared to x2goprint spool dir and shared folders... this might need some work and ideas before we go into deatails) o issue a script call on the thin client o set some environment variables on the thin client from within this script ($HOME, $USER etc.) o let the x2goclient start the local app (like firefox, vlc, mplayer, eclipse) As this is probably the most needed feature herearound I'd love to go into detail with this issue sometime in August/September. Hello, all. We recently found a condition where the VServer patches we submitted conflict with the x2golistsessions script running on the X2Go Servers. We have revised the patches. Since most of the patches seemed to get lost in the LinuxTag excitement and never posted, I'll repost them all in dependency order. No offense taken if they are deemed useless. We need them for our environment and just thought we'd share them. Improvements are always welcome. They can probably be reworked so they can be configurable options rather than complete replacements for many of the scripts but we have not had time to be that elegant. Thanks - John

Sorry about that Kurt. The ISP must have made some changes to their webclient that keep forcing it back to html without notice. I've already put in a trouble ticket with them. I'll see about configuring another webclient.
