x2goclient authentication error!

Hi All, hoping for some pointers here in getting x2go working. Two problems below - related or not? -------------------- Problem 1) Mac OS X client won't connect to server: Dialogue error message is: ''Can't connect to X-Server Please check your settings". Checking /var/log/system.log on the client machine (Mac OS X 10.6.4) it shows: Dec 18 17:23:11 Paul-Clarks-MacBook-Pro [0x0-0x18b98b8].x2goclient[56024]: Can't load translator (:/x2goclient_en_au) ! Any ideas as to what the fix is? --------------------- Problem 2) Linux client on server won't connect to localhost . Is this allowed? I attempted this to try to resolve problem 1! I get this error message: "The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session. This may be due to the wrong authentication credentials passed to the server." Is it even possible to run the x2goclient on the server? I'm attempted all this through a remote NoMachine NX desktop session, as the server is far away! (So, I do have NoMachine NX working fine. Bug report: Session gets stuck after X server crash on client

Today my X server on my client machine crashed for an unknown reason, and after that I was unable to reconnect to the X2go session that I had been trying to reconnect to at the time of the crash. Until, that is, I spotted an errant ssh process and killed it. After that, I could reconnect again. Conclusion: x2goclient should always ensure that its child ssh processes will die as soon as it is killed. If the git repo appears as promised, I might fix this myself. Regards, -- Robin

I am actually struggling with the exact scenario as Ivan is involved with here. Unfortunately, I'm not quite to where you are yet, so according to you more troubles loom on the horizon re: audio. We are trying to use x2go with Likewise Open connected to our corporate Active Directory and based upon your suggestion here, I've changed the id of the local group x2gousers to my LDAP group ID for x2gousers group in our corporate groups, in /etc/group and now my users in my LDAP group are able to authenticate successfully. However, when connecting as an LDAP user via Likewise, I only get a blank/black screen upon session start. The session is active and shows as being connected (I see the user listed when I run "who"), but I can't do or see anything in that user's x2go session window. Whereas when I use a local user, it brings me right to a GNOME desktop and I can use it as normal with full audio. If you can help me figure this out, I can move onto the next issue which will be getting audio for Likewise LDAP users, which I see is where Ivan is stuck now as well. If we can get these last two issues resolved, we intend to roll this out on a much larger scale at our organization as well as demo it to a much larger audience at our parent company. X2Go Load balancing and Windows client

firefox plugin --verbose output?

Hello: Our efforts to use the Firefox plugin have not been successful. Our web-site installs the plugin but only displays a blank (white) box. Does the plug-in have a switch that enables verbose output? We need some method to determine why it does not connent /load. Thanks Clark

x2go with likewise-open (ldap) questions

Hi, I've implemented x2go with likewise-open, still I do have 2 issues, which are present only when I use LDAP account, and not present with regular account on the linux. More details: OS Ubuntu 10.10; x2go 3.0.1-5; likewise-open 5.4.0.42111. Ubuntu is joined to Windows Active Directory through LDAP. I don't have any issues there, and everything work fine with this configuration (one issue that I've overcome: when joining LDAP, the users have other group IDs, which came from LDAP. In order to connect to x2go server, your username must have the x2gousers group assignment. In my case in LDAP I do have special group which contains users who have to have access. I've logged to LDAP locally on the ubuntu, and using command id I've checked the unique identification of that LDAP group. Then I've set this number to the x2gousers in the file /etx/groups. This way I overwrite the group that came from LDAP with the local group, and only these users can connect to x2go). Note: I've read all the documentation and I still didn't find solutions for my issues. They are: 1. Connecting remotely with x2go client with LDAP credentials doesn't forward sound - thus no sound can be heard. This problem doesn't occur when I login locally on the Ubuntu with same LDAP credentials. When I'm logged in locally, the next remote login (using the client), has sound. However, I thought that it is something with groups for audio, but seems it is not, as I'm using very same credentials and the only difference is local and remote, this way all user permissions are same (confirmed)... 2. Connecting remotely with x2go client with LDAP credentials doesn't stop the session, when disconnected in every way. The session remain open (visible with x2golistsessions_sql HOSTNAME). I've made around 20 client sessions from one host, and on the next ones it refused to connect me, because the number of authentications were too much. Again, when doing this locally on the Ubuntu, the sessions really terminate. I've even replaced x2gosuspend with x2goterminate, without any success. The only way is to delete file /var/db/x2go/x2go_sessions and to create empty one with /usr/lib/x2go/script/x2gosqlite.sh. The live sessions still remain active, but this doesn't seem good solution. It is not possible to terminate or to resume open sessions with the client as well. So they stay like zombies there. Do you have an idea what can be the root causes for these issues? My logic lead me to some un-escaped symbols used when joining the Domain - like @ and \. Because when logging to the LDAP I am using USERNAME@DOMAIN. Another possibility is to be from Likewise-open, still, there should not happen this as locally everything works fine. Best Regards Ivan

We also found 3.0.1-2 to be extremely slow on Windows. We have been using 3.0.1-4 with much better results and do not recall having to make the changes you describe. There are still some issues related to Xming as the Windows XServer. These go away if you use the newer, paid version of Xming. They also go away and performance is significantly improved by using vcxsrv as the X server but that requires hacking the X2Go client code. Hi there, I have just packaged our (Dick Kniep and Mike Gabriel, supported by feedback and design items from Heinz and Alex) first draft of the graphical X2go client ,,Pyhoca-GUI''. The development currently is progressing very fast as it gets sponsored by Dick's company lindix.nl. Thanks a lot for that!!! No support for Debian lenny available though!!!) Currently also, the really developmental profile manager is disabled. PyHoca-GUI uses the same configuration files as x2goclient. Thus PyHoca-GUI should work out of the box for most setups / user profiles that have a working x2goclient configuration. PyHoca-GUI is only a small icon that docks into your systray (as the gnome applet for network manager does). Find this icon (the accelerated X from X2go in Ubuntu-like colors) and left-click on it. Then choose ,,Authenticate X2go Server'' and you should find your sesson profiles. This is all very alpha and please do only test on test systems. No warranty if you bug your system (which should not happen)!!! Finally, please note that PyHoca-GUI gets developed in close cooperation with esp. Heinz and also Alex. Eli ... ------------------------------ *store your work on launchpad! *use the native client feature of chrome to have a webclient without needed of programming a plugin (it is easy and will run even on android phones) *authenticate user with web2.0 sites like passport, openID or fbook *stop talking to the old dev team - look forward and try to become compatible to nx(4?) again - their server is much better. You mean the "Get Ready for NX 4.0" that's been "almost released" since Jan 2010? (also remember we're talking open source here so for the price difference of x2go ($0) vs v3.4 Enterprise NX server @ $1500 per 2 cpu server... there is some advantage to x2go for many people. I think there is also a lot of great work being done in SPICE which may be into upstream sometime next year. Its architecture is very good but its still "new" and I have more than a few crashes all the time. But it is open-source and the development groups are *very* active. One drawback to me with it though is that SPICE does rely on either xen or kvm on the server side. However, even the current x2go provided capabilities others mentioned offered and in some cases x2go's actually worked better (audio ?). nx4.x its still under development and not released as is the next version of x2go. It will be interested to see both when they are both available. I agree that the x2go work should get put on launchpad. If they want to get into the official repositories for Ubuntu that is a criteria and I'm assuming that would be good goal for any remote desktop project. Authentication via oauth, openID etc as you say is also a great capability that you see being used more and more by lots of applications.

X2go and Windows Client

Hi, I can successfully compile the latest version of X2go fine; though when I copied the resultant .exe to another workstation and attempted to run it I received an error that Qtcore4.dll could not be found :( I believe this is due to Qt not being statically built ? And if that is the case any help of doing that would be appreciated please ? I am surprised though as from what I have read the x2go source would need changing to support static linking ? -- Thanks, Phil

x2go thinclient under Debian Lenny problem with sound

Hello NG, I have some problems to redirect the sound with arts under Debian Lenny. So what I did was to install die x2goserver-one and the thinclient (PXE,NFS,etc...) and it works so far. That means I can connect to the server and change the windowmanager and the resolution and so on. But there is no sound on the client! When I play a song it will be played on the server not on the client. Which are the correct settings for arts on KDE: Enable networked sound? Select the audio device: Autodetect? Is there a special file to edit? best Markus

Installing x2goserver-one in Debian added 300 users to fuse and x2gousers groups

I followed the instructions in the Wiki and installed x2goserver-one on my Debian Lenny server. However, during the installation, it told me: Attention: If you want to allow users to log into the x2go system, you'll need to add them to the "x2gousers" group but then it went on all on its own and added all users (about 300) of the system to the "x2gousers" as well as "fuse" groups! How do I undo that? Right now, I need to click around for hours in the Users and Groups admin tool :-$

Compiling x2go Windows client

Hi, I am attempting to compile the win client and have installed the QT SDK, MinGw and the x2goclient sources. They have been added to the environment path to allow the compilation binaries to be found. The readme says that one should rename x2goclient.pro with x2goclient.pro.windows yet the latter file does not exist? I decided to press on and ran qmake followed by make which completed without any errors. I found the x2goclient.exe within the debug directory and once I ran it the normal client screen popped up but was immediately followed by the error "Runtime Error!" from the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. Would very much appreciate some help in resolving the problem please. -- Thanks, Phil

Python X2go: nxproxy problem with multiple sessions to different servers

Hi Alex, hi Heinz, i have a problem that occured when coding Python X2go... I have two servers. None of them has any X2go users connect to them. When I connect to server 1 it offers SSH display tunnel NX-Proxy port 30001. When I connect to server 2 it also offers SSH display tunnel NX-Proxy port 30001. However, I cannot start two nxproxy instances listening on the same SSH tunnel port. Is there a communication protocol in X2go that gives the server feedback if an offered port is already in use locally on the client? It actually is not only a graphics/nxproxy issue, it will also occur when tunneling sound or sshfs (only that I do not get that far without a tunnel for nx traffic). Any help is appreciated... Problems with Mac, Windows and Maemo clients

My wife borrowed my laptop last night, so I decided to try and see if I could get any of the other X2Go clients to work, as I'd been having display corruption problems (see previous emails - might actually be a display driver issue, not an X2Go issue). 1. Maemo: Couldn't install it on my N900, because it hadn't been rebuilt or reimplemented for Maemo 5, so that was a non-starter. 2. Windows XP: A dialog box popped up saying "Could not start the X server". Xming was installed. When I ran Xming myself, x2goclient just hung when I tried to connect. Well, didn't do anything anyway. Every time. 3. Mac OS X 10.5.8, using the latest XQuartz X server: Works fine, except, bizarrely, Ctrl+S has *no* effect in emacs! Just plain 's' works; ctrl + other keys works; ctrl+s works if I just use straight X11-over-the-network to run emacs. It's very strange. Any ideas as to what might be happening? (I have selected "keep existing keyboard layout", because selecting a keyboard layout explicitly in the Linux client didn't work - keys were wrongly mapped.) Regards, -- Robin Green

Disappearing text - problem and possible solution(?)

Hi, I had a problem with text (of certain colours only) suddenly disappearing from windows, and not being visible again until I disconnected and reconnected. This problem has been reported on the FreeNX mailing list, but I didn't see any mention of it here yet. I found that setting the image compression method to png (20M, I think) instead of jpeg, fixed this problem for me (so far). But it might be just a coincidence that I stopped having this problem - on the FreeNX list, some people report that the issue is very intermittent and hard to pin down. I am using a self-built X2Go Server with the latest NX libraries (also self-built) on the server, and on the client I'm using the standard Ubuntu/Debian packages (on Maverick). Incidentally, the client machine is actually a Virtualbox VM, although I'm not sure this is relevant. Regards, -- Robin Green

Is there any comprehensive documentation for the command options of the X2Goclient for Windows? I have not been able to fathom (for example) what and how to feed to the --session and --command arguments. Here's what we have to do: Launch the client in full screen with no menu options and complete login information already built in at launch. Kind of like kiosk mode in that the user can do nothing but enter the remote application. He (she) should not be able to exit the client or readjust any of the settings or even access the Windows outside of the client screen. assistance would be warmly appreciated. Thank you, Yitzhak

Hello, I'm not sure to have understood correctly last time we discussed about it… I was thinking that the plugin will be released by September or at least October, but it doesn't seem to be right :) Does anyone know approximatively when the plugin will be released ? This year ? Actually I just need one feature : session sharing. I can wait for the ability to run it on any browser… but session sharing is really important for me. Hello, all. We were thinking of using the Windows 3.0.1-2 client to experiment with using vcxsrv as the Windows X Server rather than Xming. I remember that there was an enormous performance improvement in our systems when we moved from -2 to -4. Indeed, we found -2 unusable and -4 just about as fast as Linux. Was the only change including a built-in Xming as per http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Xming/Building or were there other changes as well? Thanks - John

Disappearing Mouse on Windows 7

I've not seen this problem yet but I don't use my Windows 7 x2go client as much as my linux client. Just to not overlook the obvious... maybe this is a Windows 7 problem? When I toucih the mouse pad, a square appears with little blue dots appears for a second or two, then goes away. The mouse pointer at this point may or may not re-appear. If not, it takes a lot of moving the mouse around to get the pointer back.* * I know there is a trick, if you turn on mouse trails and set the trails to the lowest setting, it never disappears. BUT I have certain games which do not work with mouse trails on.* I don't know if the above is some "well-known" solution or not but that message lead me to Microsoft's own site and a search for "Windows 7 disappearing mouse" which returns many people reporting the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?mode=r&query=disappearing+… Whatever the solution for those of you having the problem I'd first see if the general Microsoft population is reporting the problem using some of the same hardware or Windows 7 settings that you have. Hi Gerry, I donated 10 pounds and tested the current payed XMing code. However that code crashes almost as frequently as the GPL code. If you start a session with XMing and move your mouse a bit around, the X-server crashes (on Windows 7). I haven't tested on Windows XP or Vista. As I have written before, the python client will have a configurable X-server, so vcxsrv would certainly be tested! For me the main reason was the instability of XMing, the X-server that is incorporated in the current X2go client. The new Python client will have a configurable X-server. So if you want to use Cygwin/X it is OK, if you want to use Xming it is OK, and if you want to use a commercial X-server that should work also. We hope to have a working copy at the end of next week. Off course that will be Beta, but should be usable nevertheless and should have all features included. After that testing should be done on Windows and Mac. x2gosessionlimit

Hi list, I have been trying to set x2gosessionlimit to limit the number of active sessions. So as a simple test I set the x2gousers group setting to 2 and then started creating sessions for users that were part of the x2gousers group. It did not seem to limit the number of sessions that I could create. So is this not the correct usage? I read John's post from last summer about x2gosessionlimit but there was no response to his post. Can anyone shed some light on this? Regards, Gerry

hi Gerry, Please add also wxPython 2.8 as a requirement. For me the main reason to develop this is that the windows client is not stable if used with a single application. The problem is with XMing, try to run a single application and move the mouse fast around if running under Windows 7 and it crashes. Furthermore I think we can make some enhancements for the gui, (operating from the Taskbar, automatic minimizing of the gui etc.) and as python and wxpython are crossplatform we can run the same code on mac, Linux and MS-Windows. So we would have only a single code base to maintain, which would be good for the quality of the total solution. We are working very hard on this development, but it will take some time before it is all stable. Top numlock keys do not work

Hello, all. We are aware that we must be careful about Num lock and CAPS lock because toggling them in the physical desktop does not toggle them in the virtual desktop but toggling them in the virtual desktop toggles them in both - thus they can easily get out of sync. However, one of our clients reported something a bit nastier and I have confirmed it on my setup. When the num lock is toggled off in the virtual desktop, the /*- keys work properly. When num lock is toggled on, those top three keys cease to work. That is extremely awkward for those doing accounting work or heavy date entry (the client's bookkeeper reported it!). Is this a misconfiguration on our part or is it a bug? Thanks - John

X2GO Ubuntu 10.10 on Linux and Mac clients "d" key

Hello, I am testing out X2go with Ubuntu 10.10. Everything works great and we are leaning towards rolling this out to our entire development organization if we can solve a few outstanding issues. Right now, the biggest one we're facing is that whenever I type 'd' it hides all open applications and shows my desktop. Every other key seems to work just fine, as does sessions suspend/resume, audio, performance, etc. but obviously this is still unusable to us with the 'd' key being unavailable. I have tested this on the Linux, Mac, and Windows X2go clients and this is only the behavior on the Linux and Mac clients, not on the Windows client - the 'd' key works fine on Windows x2go client. Any thoughts? FWIW, On Ubuntu 9.10 using x2go, I don't have this issue with Mac/Linux clients. However, we don't want to confine ourselves to 9.10 by choosing x2go. x2go python scripts

There appear to be a number of efforts involving developing python scripts for x2go. What are the status of these python efforts? Did Jörg abandon his effort? Mike, you mentioned the you were redeveloping Jörg's scripts. Is that effort finished? And what ssh connection approach is being taken with python scripts? Multiple ssh connections the same as the perl scripts? Or establish and reuse a single ssh connection? And what is the minimum python level necessary to run these python scripts? 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6? Just trying to gauge the requirements, features and maturity of the python efforts. Regards, Gerry

I started multiple sessions for the same user this morning. Then later in the afternoon all of the sessions show as suspended. What is causing this? Is there some automatic session timeout limit? Regards, Gerry

How to track an x2go issue/bug?

Hi, Thanks for all your efforts on x2go. I've worked out that connecting to the same host (127.0.0.1, localhost, 10.n.n.n/192.168.n.n or <hostname>) is not currently supported. I am struggling to find out how to track this issue so that when it is resolved I can return to x2go and drop neatx. Appreciate any pointers to an issue or bug tracker. Frequent crashes in XMing

Hi List, We have setup x2go and are testing the whole setup. We are using multiwindow rootless setup. So this means that the normal Windows desktop is leading and starting the application results in standard MS-Windows Windows being opened. When we are using this setup, we are experiencing frequent crashes in XMing. As a matter of fact the crashes occur so frequently that the whole setup is useless (At least one crash per hour). So if anyone knows what to do about these problems I would be VERY happy. As a suggestion that I haven't tried yet; could it be that the parameters that are passed to XMing conflict? I read the documentation of XMing and there seems to be an xmingrc which could also be used for entering parameters. I do not find that in the xming directory of x2go. Us international keyboard

Hi there, We are currently testing our application that is distributed by x2go. However we always get the us keyboard instead of the us-international keyboard. Whether I set the keyboard to us-intl or tell x2go to use the local keyboard I always get the us keyboard. Because of that, we don't have a Euro sign and also the é and è that are use in the Netherlands are not available. Has anyone seen this behaviour?
