Bug: X2GO client expects Bash

Hi there, the x2go client expects Bash to be the defualt shell. If this is not the case the login may fail. BTW: Is there a bug tracker by now? Cheers Morty -- Dipl.-Ing. python-x2goserver API

hi all, hi esp. devs, the LinDix company in the Netherlands has asked me to work on another project in the context of X2go. A couple of weeks ago we discussed possibilities of approaching the usage of X2go in SaaS environemts (that is: not ,,Desktop as a Serice'', but Software as a Service, meaning single, dedicated applications in this context). The vision is: (a) to have a server-side X2goSSH service similar to OpenSSH that can be configured via ACLs so that remote application can be granted/denied to specific users and/or specific groups. Opposed to OpenSSH this X2go service will be able to restrict the execution of remote (server-side) commands very pedantically. (b) to provider X2go remote apps through the programmes' menu on your local desktop In this mail I will address vision (a) in detail: ==================== The basic ideas of such an X2goSSH service are: o instead of using OpenSSH daemon the client connects to X2goSSH daemon o the X2goSSH service will wrap around the standard x2goserver command set o installation of X2goSSH will be optional o the client has to support the usage of the server-side X2goSSH (i.e. there will be a parallel implementation within python-x2go code) o the client has to be able to detect if it is talking to a normal OpenSSH daemon or if it is talking to the restricted X2goSSH service o the X2goSSH service will be implemented with Python-Paramiko/SSH o behind the X2goSSH service there listens an X2go'ish shell that guards and wraps around the actual execution of the already known x2go comands (note again: X2goSSH+X2goSHELL is a wrapper for x2goserver commands) o With the help of a guy from LinDix.NL (and others?) x2gothinclient write problem

Hi there, I have some strange issues with x2gothinclient. For installing I used this manual: http://wiki.x2go.org/installing_x2go_thin_client_environment_debian Because of using squeeze instead of lenny I changed a couple of things: - debootstrap - repos - apt-get install x2gothinclient instead of x2gothinclientsystem But that should not be the problem. The tftp boot works like a charm, but in the NFS "bootsteps" I get come errors/warnings: [...] cannot create /tmp/lean: Read-only file system [...] cannot create /var/run/utmp: Permission denied [...] cannot create /var/run/motd: Permission denied [...] There are some more errors and the problem is, in my opinion, that it is not possible to write on /tmp, /var, etc. The NFS-Share is exported "ro" as described in the documentation. Should be there a "fake" writable /tmp, /var path or a special mountpoint? Best regards Markus

x2go client 3.01.18 crashing

Hi, Has anybody experienced, under Windows XP, the latest client crashing when attempting to print ? On a clients computer the x2go print dialogue box pops up but if I try either to open the PDF in viewer or cancel it straight away terminates the connection to the server and the whole x2go client crashes leaving sshd.exe and pulseaudio.exe running in TaskManager. -- Thanks, Phil

x2go with Gnome 3 ?

Has anyone successfully run x2goserver(-one) with Gnome 3 ? I just upgraded my Archlinux system to Gnome 3, and x2goserver-one stopped working with Gnome. It gave a message about hardware not being suitable and it is reverting to gnome fallback. Unfortunately, it seems it was a one-time message, but I cannot get the message back, otherwise I would post the exact error message. What happens is that I end up with an x2go session with a plain desktop and a couple menus of apps, and that is all. If no one has gotten x2go working with Gnome 3, can anyone suggest where I need to start looking to solve the problem? I don't really know where to start. I already tried /usr/bin/gnome-session as a custom command from the x2go client, but that made no difference, and now I am stuck on what to look at to troubleshoot the problem.

Ubuntu/Debian Try-Out Repositories for X2go packages from Git

Hi there, X2go Git ======== as many of you might have realized X2go development has moved to Git based development. The Git development site can be found here: http://git.x2go.org Not all X2go packages are available in this Git repository, but we will move more and more packages there whenever we (or you) think that work on it should be continued in Git. We are very happy about people contributing coding work at this point. Projects available as Git projects on git.x2go.org are nightly-built for Ubuntu GNU/Linux (as Moritz has announced a couple of days ago). Thx to Reinhard+Moritz for this...: https://launchpad.net/~x2go/+archive/ppa Ubuntu Packages for Trying-Out X2go =============== So, for Ubuntu we currently _only_ have nightly builds. These nightly builds are for testing purposes during development only. Use them at your own risk or rather do not use them without discussing the state of code on this mailing list first. Nightly-builds might not be stable every once in a while. They are built directly from the X2go Git repos -- no matter how broken the code there might be... Currently, you are lucky, to my knowledge all packages build and install well. We lately have started a discussion if there should be packages at our Launchpad ppa that reflect a rather ,,stable'' state opposed to the nightly-builds. I think we should continue this discussion... Debian Packages for Trying-Out X2go =============== For Debian I have set up a new reprepro package repository at this URL over the weekend: http://code.x2go.org/debian Preferrably, the URL will be renamed to: http://packages.x2go.org/debian ...but I need a DNS entry from Heinz for that. (PING!) On http://code.x2go.org/debian we have to component areas: ,,main'' and ,,heuler''. main: packages reflecting the Git-tag ,,build-main'' (refer to individual projects on git.x2go.org) heuler: nightly-builds (not quite yet, currently I have to start the build process manually) Notes on ,,main'': Packages in the main area we consider as relatively stable. As long as X2go is not available in Debian itself, you probably might try those. Notes on ,,heuler'': you do _NOT_ want to use nightly-builds for your systems, especially not for production systems. These nightly-builds (cf. Ubuntu nightly-builds) are for developmental testing only. The heuler repos is/will be really experimental stuff. Please keep that in mind. BUILDING PROCESS ================= All packages in the new Debian package repos (similar to Launchpad for Ubuntu) get built against clean Debian chroots. They are built with qemubuilder (a pbuilder/cowbuilder derivative). We currently support i386 and amd64 architectures for Debian only. For testing, we currently only need those architectures. If there is need for other archs like powerpc, armel, ... please let us know. We may consider to build the packages in ,,main'' area for these not so common archictectures, too, if there is a need for that (I have never tested if they work on those archs, though).
