Ubuntu 10.04

Hi all, I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 for a client on a XEN server and the login and using of the gnome desktop was really great! It was very fast login and using the programs was quick and no long waits. The login took about 6 sec from an internet connection. Though video playback is terrible still :) but the sound was smooth mostly having a few stops here and there otherwise its really good. Printing was great but had to stick to pdf printing which the client could live with pressing a few more buttons. The other great thing was that if the connection was cut off for whatever reason it now can connect back to that session, before it was like a roll of the dice. Also another great factor was using 10.04 is login and log out are really fast. The modem setting is a great saver for bad wifi connections. Anyway my main question would be will video playback be looked into? Since with ubuntu 10.04 out and most of the things I have tried seems to have enhanced the speed of ssh and stability. Though most people don't need it now it is a great feature to have since video calls are getting popular it would really enhance x2go usage further.

irc meeting?

Hello, what would you think about an irc meeting after Linuxtag (1-2h)? This would be an easy way to get in contact and discuss about x2go and the next steps for this project. We would collect a list of topics discussed on Linuxtag and put them inside the inviting mail. Please let us know what you're thinking about this option. best regards, Heinz

Public bug tracker?

Is there such a thing? If not, perhaps it would be worth considering. That way, we could file bugs and do bug triage, freeing up time for the core developers. It would also be nice if we could see which bugs are open so that we may work on closing them if we have time and competence to do so. Jo-Erlend

Desktop sharing

How can i share a desktop, or as i understand: "login to an already running desktop, to support the current working user." In what way can i manage that. I'm already to access the "server" and login to another user, but not take over an existing session. Ronnie

Seemless sessions using GDM?

Hello everyone. On my home desktop, I use Ubuntu 10.04. I use it for personal stuff and I use it for business, but then using an x2go terminal server. And I'm very satisfied with that solution. However, yesterday, I tried something new, and the result was 99% awesome. What I did, was to add a new session type to GDM, which I called x2go. This session simply runs x2goclient --geometry=fullscreen --session=x2go and some other parameters. The x2go session uses a spesific user and key, so it wouldn't be a good solution in all cases, but since I'm the only user of this particular pc, it's not a problem for me. Having setup the client to use a key for login, this means that when I login as my x2go user in GDM, the only thing I see, is the x2go session. This is really very nice, but when I log out from the x2go session, I end up with the x2go window. It would be very nice if I could find a way to exit the application when I log out from the x2go session. Is this possible today, or must it be coded? Thanks, Jo-Erlend Schinstad

Hi, I'm FreeNX user for last 2 years. I'd like to try other TS environment because I'm going now to deploy a Linux app to one of my customers and I'm evaluating all the possibilities there are. I installed x2go (home) like according to x2go.org and when I try to log in I get a fault. I attach log of connection. Thanks in advance

I've tried most of the remote desktop solutions out there. NoMachine's NX, NX/FreeNX, Citrix ICA, etc. They *all* suffer from less than perfect video over the net. Its a combination of bandwidth and cpu horsepower either of which can induce delay/jitter. Audio won't be as noticable as video because if you miss some bits of audio your ears/mind usually still can understand but miss some bits of video and its always noticable. There are quite a few solutions that are starting to appear though that will help. Red Hat has released to opensource the SPICE<http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Red-Hat-open-sources-Qumranet-SPICE-…>software they got from QumranNet two years ago. There is also work being done with Neatx although its got key features that don't work yet (audio/printing for a couple). and there are a variety of other solutions starting to hit the market. Then there is the movement to HTML 5 with embedded video support which is going to change a lot of things for the better. If the video you need to view is web based then don't have the user launch a browser on the remote desktop machine but launch it locally. x2gothinclient: pre-select session?

Hi, today I successfully replaced LTSP by X2Go on a Debian Edu Terminalserver. On the server I just installed x2goserver-one. In the Thin-Client chroot I modified /etc/init.d/ramdrive to create a sessions file that offers a session for the Terminalserver. It works like a charm: the user clicks on the card, enters his username and password, and there he goes :) Now, to top it all off, it would be great if I could get x2goclient to pre-select that session. In my setup there is only one Terminalserver, and that way the click on the card would be saved. Currently, I have the following in /opt/x2gothinclient/etc/default/x2goclient: x2goclient --external-login=/ramdrive/logins --no-menu --maximize --link=lan --kbd-layout=de --kbd-type=pc105/de --set-kbd=1 --geometry=fullscreen --add-to-known-hosts --read-exports-from=/ramdrive/export If I just add --session-id=20100603181957574 to that list, x2goclient won't start. that argument alone doesn't work either. So my question is: if possible, how can I pre-select a specific session for the x2gothinclient? Regards, -- .''`. Serious Issue - x2goagent runaway CPU

Hello, all. We are seeing this with enough regularity that it is alarming. Our first client uses Konqueror heavily in their work process. They usually open files from it rather than from within the applications, they email directly from it, etc. The environment is Lenny + Backports with a few updates from Squeeze. We are using KDE 3.5. X2Go is 3.0.1-4 on the client (all windows stations) and 3.0.1-5 for server. We have not been able to track down the trigger but the user's Konqueror will freeze partly painted. x2goagent consumes all the CPU and Konqueror's memory usage grows to frightening amounts (e.g., 18GB). How can we track down and kill this serious bug? Thanks - John
