Loadbalancer's don't necessarily have to have anything to do with x2go or NX for that matter although they can implement their own technique. There are several good articles out there on the topic including this one<http://1wt.eu/articles/2006_lb/> . Here is one implementation <http://haproxy.1wt.eu/> you could also use. And here is a HowToForge article on setting up an Apache Web Server load balancer<http://www.howtoforge.com/high_availability_loadbalanced_apache_cluster> If you use some of the "cloud" services setting up a load balancer is often very simple. On the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud (ec2) you just start your "instance" that is the application(s) you want to use and more or less a single click/command adds your new server to an EC2 loadbalance<http://aws.amazon.com/elasticloadbalancing/>r that you then can specify criteria for. AWS has made it ridiculously simple. Matter of fact, AWS EC2 just implemented a new "service" which can track which instance (re virtual machine) a session belonged to and IF the session terminates abnormally, you can restart it and between the Load Balancer and AWS EC2 it will reattach it to the original instance/machine. Does X2GO have support for scanning using a client-side scanner?

One thing I've been longing for, is the possibility of scanning on the remote server using a scanner connected to the client. I noticed that 2X now supports this. Is it possible using x2go, or will it be possible in the future? Do you only implement stuff that can be done on all platforms, or will you make it possible using ubuntu clients even if it's not easily done for windows clients? Thanks. Jo-Erlend Schinstad

Windows client crash ASSERT failure

Hello, all. We installed the Trolltech Qt SDK for Windows and downloaded the x2goclient-3.0.1-4 tarball from x2go.obviously-nice.de/deb Before attempting any changes, we simply built and ran the project. It crashed with: ASSERT failure in QWidget: "Widgets must be created in the GUI thread.", file kernel/qwidget.cpp,line 1133 Invalid parameter passed to C runtime function We tracked this down to initStatusDlg(). In line 7559, it calls slotShowAdvancedStat(). On line 3966, it calls st.sync(). When it calls QWinSettingsPrivate::sync() RegFlushKey(writeHandle()), it blows up. What have we done wrong? Which Windows build environment

Hello, all. I'm getting ready to build a Windows X2Go development environment to do some troubleshooting on some issues we have. What is the Windows build environment currently used by the development team. I'm in the process of installing eclipse but I know the CVS includes the KDevelop project file. I suppose it would be best if I used what the developers use. Thanks - John

Windows fullscreen and clipboard parameters not passed

Hello, all. I'm working on the problem where Windows clients do not honor the full screen setting nor pass clipboard information. I noticed in the thread which starts the Windows Xming server, void ONMainWindow::startXOrg (), that the Xming parameters appear to be hard set: args<<dispString<<"-multiwindow"<<"-notrayicon"<< "-logfile"<<xorgLogFile; xorg=new QProcess ( 0 ); xorg-> setWorkingDirectory ( appDir+"\\xming" ); xorg->setEnvironment ( env ); xorg->start ( appDir+"\\xming\\Xming.exe",args ); Before try to generate a patch to add -clipboard as a fixed setting and read the screen parameters from the settings file, I thought I should as, why do we not pass -clipboard and why do we not read the screen settings already? I certainly wouldn't want to waste any time if we already know -clipboard and either -rootless or -fullscreen are really bad ideas. If there are not reasons why this is not done, I can try to work on a patch tomorrow. I'm very unfamiliar with Qt on Windows (and am barely functional running it in KDevelop in Linux!). How does one normally build in Windows? Thanks - John

Password handling and CAPS lock issues

Hello, all. We have a problem with CAPS lock getting out of sync between the physical and virtual desktops. I assume this is the downside of the very powerful feature of being able to change physical computers connected to the same virtual session. However, it is more than annoying. Because X2Go attempts so many logins at once (separate SSH sessions for video, print, sound, file sharing), a wrong login quickly exhausts grace logins and can even trip our OSSEC active response as a perceived brute force intrusion attempt and lock out all computers from the same site. Perhaps password handling could be improved in two ways in X2Go. If the first password attempt fails, the user should be alerted and continued login attempts for other ssh sessions should cease. Secondly, the first failed attempt could be retried in reverse case. If it succeeds, a message should be displayed to the user. The problem could be either that their physical CAPS lock is on (in which case we do nothing but warn) or that the CAPS lock is out of sync, in which case we can offer to toggle the CAPS lock state on the virtual desktop. Is this possible? Is it reasonable? Thanks - John

Dear Sirs, may I post a question regarding a non-x2go issue? If it is ok, here is my query; I have Linux Mint 8 (Helena / Ubuntu 9.10) installed on my desktop at home. A friend of mine was clearing his office and gave me a piece of Wyse Winterm WT5420XL. I grabbed it with the view of connecting this thin client to my desktop so that my family can access the desktop. I thought it was plug and play but it is not so. I don't know where to begin / how to get started. I looked at http://www.wyse.com but WT5420XL was not even listed in the product range! The firmware is Winterm 5000 series / V1.0.6 (Build 407). The closest is WT5440XL. Anyway, the website has only references of hooking up to Citrix or similar high priced thin client server environments. There is no reference of hooking up to a standard Linux Mint / Ubuntu desktop, for any of their products in their product range. I am connected to the internet via an Aztech ADSL (4-port + Wifi) router-modem. This Aztech router-modem is the DHCP server. I connected the WT5420XL to this router-modem. My desktop is 192.168.1.100, the WT5420XL is 192.168.1.101 In the WT5420XL Terminal Properties / Network I selected "Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server". When I click to Terminal Properties / SysInfo I can see that in the TCP/IP Settings the IP Address is 192.168.1.101, Gateway 192.168.1.1 (Aztech router-modem). In /etc/gdm/custom.conf the setting is as follows; ************************************************************ # GDM configuration storage [xdmcp] Enable=true DisplaysPerHost=2 [chooser] [security] [debug] [daemon] TimedLoginEnable=false AutomaticLoginEnable=false TimedLogin=johnson AutomaticLogin=johnson TimedLoginDelay=30 ************************************************************ In the Winterm Connection Manager / Configure I click on Add / New Connection and select X Connection. In Winterm Connection Manager / Configure / XSetup / Start I select "Remote Desktop Mode". In Winterm Connection Manager / Configure / XSetup / Connect I select XDMCP-Query and for XDMCP Server I enter 192.168.1.100. And I give this the Title "Linux1". In In the Winterm Connection Manager / Connections I click on "Linux1", the screen goes into black&white mode than a few seconds later the error box "Xconnection error / No respond from XDMCP server." appears. Clicking OK will bring me back to the Winterm Connection Manager screen. I have been searching the web and stumbled across x2go's website. Wow!

I've been playing with x2go for a couple of days, and the only thing that comes to mind, is «wow». I've been using FreeNX for a long time, and one of the things I've been struggling with, is two-way audio. Using x2goserver-one, it just worked. I've only tried with Ubuntu on both client and server and I hope it works well with Windows and OS X clients too. If that's the case, then I'm definitely sold. One question: is it possible to deactivate the magic pixel functionality in the upper-right corner and instead use a command to switch to the client OS? That would be awesome. Thanks!
