Binary packages for Fedora

Hello guys Recently I've found this piece of software which is really missing. Previously I've played with nomachine stuff but it is not fully free. I would like to help with creating packages for Fedora. There is only x2goclient-cli command-line (not finished yet) I've tried it in Ubuntu but I'm little bit confused with too many packages there. Have you any suggestion how to split it to packages? And what is necessary for server part and which version you suppose to use for build like this (latest or older)? Thanks Pavel

portable Client - load Settings from file not from Registry (Win-Client)

Hi, i would like to ask, if there is any chance to load the Settings for the Windows x2go-Client from any other place than the Registry? Thats the only Problem if one wants to run it as an PortableApp... Many thanks! Tobias

SSH and Performance

Hi everybody, we have been trying x2go for about a year now both on our thin clients and as a remote access solution. On our thin clients (both legacy Intel Pentium-III 1 GHz and modern Intel Atom 330) it appears a lot of CPU power is consumed by ssh. Especially while both animations and sounds are played the play back is sometimes interrupted due to the lack of CPU performance. So we temporarily switched back to plain remote X11 (without compression and encryption) for our thin clients while sticking to x2go for remote access. Nevertheless x2go seem to be designed for both purposes. I would like to ask if someone else can confirm this and if the is a workaround. Maybe it will be possible to skip encryption for local use in a future version in order to be able save CPU time and even energy. (Of course x2go uses ssh for both security and port forwarding.) upcoming release

Dear x2go users, for the last months we've been working on a new release. First we thought to bring some new features, but now we'll bundle it, because there where many changes needed. It still will take some time to the release, but we wan't to inform you on some changes we are discussing. First of all: We are planing a multi session x2goclient for the release after the next release. So there will be a lot of work of redesigning our clients. This would be easier with only one client architecture and as the Qt client is our base for the Linux, Windows, Maemo and Mac OSX platforms, we are asking the question: Would it be ok to focus our work on the Qt client and to stop/reduce our work on the GTK client? If we would go on developing both clients equally, it will really take a long time to implement all new planned features and this will slow down the whole project. The Question can also be transformed: Is there anybody interested to help us to keep the GTK client up to date? Please tell us your thoughts but keep in mind, that the Qt Toolkit is available on all major distros and we'll keep on developing our Gnome bindings. This will not be a preconfigured "choice of Desktop Environment". So we think we should now continue with some of the new features of the next release (as a contrast): Yes, there will be a Browser Plugin. It will be realized as a "sponsored development" so we'll get some money for our work and the sponsor will be named. You'll be able to integrate the plugin into a Website and you'll have all features of the x2goclient. Yes there will be a "session sharing" option without the need of a LDAP server. The new "session sharing" option will make it possible to share a x2go session with another user, to share a already started xorg session with another user and to share a session with more than one user. There will be a system tray application which will help configuring the sharing settings. After getting so many mails about a wiki for documentation - yes we are working on a wiki which will replace the odf/pdf/html manuals. We are looking for new localisations. If x2goclient is not available in your language and you want to translate it, please let us know (on the list ). We'll provide a *.ts file for your language (qt-linguist). We'll announce the the release here on the list and on our blog - at the moment we can't tell you when it'll be ready. Ubuntu 9.10 and Kcontrol module

Hi Everyone, I'm new here. I don't have developper skills like most of you but there's no Web-Place to talk about this nice product X2go. I'm doing some testing to implement this solution for some of my clients. I tested Ulteo and NX Nomachine. After some more researches I found the FreeNX project which apparently was not supported anymore ... till I found this X2go project. I read about linux4africa where I can find some ideas of implementation, the blog about x2go, but not enough to see the real functions of x2go. In my case for example, I love Ubuntu and I really want to propose it to my client. But there is a big problem about x2go on Ubuntu : No administration console. Apparently the module kcontrol is not any more installable on this distibution (Ubuntu 9.10 in my case and probably the 10.04 in few months) ... and nobody talk about it. Is anyone found the solution in this case ? I read about the reason to not get a forum and I don't get it. The forum is easy to find an answer with the search module. And you don't have to go there everyday to see if there's some new topics or updates, you just have to configure the notifications. Hope the X2Go project will be followed by many many people !! So we'll configure away! We were originally thinking of arts with ALSA and tweaking asound.conf It sounds like (no pun intended) you're intimating we're better off configuring arts to use ESD and then configure Pulse to emulate ESD. Any applications that can work with Pulse we'll set up natively and the rest we'll direct to ESD. Is that the approach? Thanks again - John

OT: Sound issues

Hello, all. We're having quite a struggle with sound in X2Go. I don't believe it is an X2Go issue as some applications, e.g, Kaffeine using Xine, work perfectly well. I think it is a Lenny + Pulseaudio + KDE3 + arts issue but, since that is a very typical X2Go setup, I thought I'd ask here. We're finding it very hit and miss when it comes to sound. Kaffeine works but Noatun does not. Sometimes flash plays sound across the X2Go connection and sometimes it does not. We never get other browser sounds (e.g., our Zimbra "pings" when there is new mail or a new IM). We began to get Twinklephone working but then it stopped (something has obviously changed in our environment and we're still tracking that down). We've started to really hack away at asound.conf (perhaps also hampered by the fact that there is no sound device in the server itself) but, I am always hesitant to move very far away from defaults for fear that I have overlooked something obvious. Good solutions generally work simply. What issues have other X2Go users found with sound and how have you resolved them? Thanks - John

Hi Léon, there is a very good Mandriva(users) port of x2go - maybe it helps if you have a look on their spec files. If you have any further questions, please use the mailing list so that other people who encountering the same problems can have a review on the problem. running in Fedora

Hi, I'm trying to run (and eventually, package) x2goclient-gtk in Fedora (12). First of all, i can't compile it unless i run: $ sh autogen.sh $ sed -i 's:sigc++:parallel:' src/main_window.cc $ ./configure && make && make install Then after it compiles i can start the client, but it gives me an error when trying to connect to an X2go server: Connection failed Unable to write: /home/leon/.x2go/ssh/socaskpassF7TVAV The remote user is 'l.keijser' so i know it can't be a problem on the server side. Actually, when i fire up a client in a Ubuntu virtual, all works well. I have checked the permissions on the .x2go/ssh directory (they are created correctly) and even set them to 777, but with the same error. Can someone tell me what's going on? -- Léon
