x2goclient and ssh-agent

Hello, is there a way to use x2goclient with ssh-agent(1)? i am using ssh-agent with my etoken to login via nxclient on some machines. is this possible with x2goclient? i've started x2goclient from the same shell where a ssh login to the remote server worked with agent auth. but x2goclient seems not to use the running ssh-agent. thanks for any help. heiko

Opening a session to user with encrypted home directory

Hello, there appears to be a problem with connecting to x2goserver-home (Ubuntu 9.10), when the user has encrypted home directory (using ecryptfs). The cause seems to be that some files need to be open in the home directory before the ecryptfs is mounted. Trying to connect again usually works. Also, the unsuccessful first session remains hanging as "running" in the server's database. I checked that after the first unsuccessful trial, the ecryptfs home directory was not mounted. Could it be caused by not enough time for ecryptfs mounting scripts to mount home directory before x2go wants to write to it? upcoming release

Dear x2go users, for the last months we've been working on a new release. First we thought to bring some new features, but now we'll bundle it, because there where many changes needed. It still will take some time to the release, but we wan't to inform you on some changes we are discussing. First of all: We are planing a multi session x2goclient for the release after the next release. So there will be a lot of work of redesigning our clients. This would be easier with only one client architecture and as the Qt client is our base for the Linux, Windows, Maemo and Mac OSX platforms, we are asking the question: Would it be ok to focus our work on the Qt client and to stop/reduce our work on the GTK client? If we would go on developing both clients equally, it will really take a long time to implement all new planned features and this will slow down the whole project. The Question can also be transformed: Is there anybody interested to help us to keep the GTK client up to date? Please tell us your thoughts but keep in mind, that the Qt Toolkit is available on all major distros and we'll keep on developing our Gnome bindings. This will not be a preconfigured "choice of Desktop Environment". So we think we should now continue with some of the new features of the next release (as a contrast): Yes, there will be a Browser Plugin. It will be realized as a "sponsored development" so we'll get some money for our work and the sponsor will be named. You'll be able to integrate the plugin into a Website and you'll have all features of the x2goclient. Yes there will be a "session sharing" option without the need of a LDAP server. The new "session sharing" option will make it possible to share a x2go session with another user, to share a already started xorg session with another user and to share a session with more than one user. There will be a system tray application which will help configuring the sharing settings. After getting so many mails about a wiki for documentation - yes we are working on a wiki which will replace the odf/pdf/html manuals. We are looking for new localisations. If x2goclient is not available in your language and you want to translate it, please let us know (on the list ). We'll provide a *.ts file for your language (qt-linguist). We'll announce the the release here on the list and on our blog - at the moment we can't tell you when it'll be ready. Fullscreen mode in Windows not working

Hello, all. I've been testing X2Goclient 3.0.1-4 for Windows on two separate computers running WindowsXP. I'm seeing the same problem on both. I set the session mode to full screen and yet the session opens to some less than full screen geometry with Window decorations. I have ensured the old sessions were not running so it was not inheriting old geometry. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Thanks - John

Process documentation

Hello, all. We're finally headlong into refining our X2Go deployment and turning up lots of little issues. We're perfectly happy to dig through the scripts and even submit any patches we make rather than pester the list for each issue. However, is there any documentation outlining what the steps are in the process of setting up and tearing down an X2Go session? That would save us wading through all the scripts to see how their strung together. For example, we're seeing a problem where our local file and print mounts are not being removed when a session is terminated. We'll just work our way through the process to see what we have set up wrong but would like to know what that process is. I took a quick look on the X2Go web site, the berliosz site, and the repository but nothing jumped out at me other than to download all the packages and start reading through them. Thanks - John

RDP Connections on x2go Client

Dear x2go team, First of all, congratulations for an awesome project. Keep up the great work :) I recently tried to create via the x2go client, an RDP connection to a Virtual Machine running Windows XP. I was unsuccessful; the client insists on using SSH (port 22 on the windows client and whatever port you have set it up on the GTK client). Perhaps a checkbox labeled "RDP over SSH" might be a good option to have in later versions of the clients or perhaps you could turn the SSH port field into an RDP port field once that type of connection is selected. I also noticed that the Windows Client does not go to fullscreen mode even though the session is set to fullscreen. Perhaps that too can be addressed in later versions of the client. It's great to see projects like yours flourish and mature into invaluable tools. Keep up the great work. If you allow me to contribute to the project I would like to get the .ts file so I can translate x2go to my native language (Greek) unless you already have it translated into Greek. Shared DB patches

Hello, all. It looks like the line numbers in x2gopgwrapper_net have changed since I last submitted these patches. These patches have successfully applied to the latest repository files. To review what they are for, we felt uncomfortable both with giving our client desktops ssh access to the single database server and having them use the postgres super user to access the database. In our multi-tenant environment with many vserver based X2Go Servers (one X2Go Server per virtual machine), this was a dangerous security exposure especially since the PostgreSQL server holds databases besides the X2Go databases. There is an OpenOffice document included which explains the logic and the procedures for implementing this secure shared database setup. It eliminates both the need for ssh and to use the postgres user. Hope they help someone else - John

Central CUPS server not sending print jobs to physical desktop

Hello, all. We finally have our central CUPS server running after learning more than we ever wanted to know about NSS, LDAP, groups, and CUPS authentication! The CUPS server is running on Lenny and we have installed cups-x2go. We have NOT installed x2goprint as it our understanding from reading the documentation that it is not necessary on the CUPS server but only on the X2Go Server. Is this correct? We edited the client's .kdeprintrc file to point to the central cups server. The client does have x2goprint installed and both the user and x2goprint are members of the fuse group. The client uses a non-standard SSH port for security reasons. We restrict access to the desktop printers to the desktop users. Only I can print to my desktop printer and only Susie can print to Susie's desktop printer. When we print on the client to the X2Go-CUPS printer, the print job shows as successful but the print dialog never appears on the physical desktop. The CUPS logs show a successful print job but no popup. We have set up dsa key access. If we do a ssh -i /root/.x2go/ssh/.x2goprint/id_dsa x2goprint@<virtual desktop>, it works - we open an ssh console without being prompted. We have accepted the keys into the known_hosts file for both the short and fully qualified name. The strange thing is that a packet trace shows no SSH traffic. There is plenty of CUPS traffic but the CUPS server never tries to communicate with the virtual desktop via SSH. If we use a local CUPS server instead, the X2Go print popup works just fine - very impressive. We have tried the setup with the local CUPS server both enabled and disabled. No difference. What have we missed? Why does the central CUPS server not even try to send the job to the virtual desktop? How can we troubleshoot it further? We see nothing suspicious in the logs including the auth logs. Thanks - John

x2gocleansessions and x2goprint

Hi, I have two questions about x2gocleansessions and x2goprint. x2gocleansessions is the deamon which runs in the background (daemon) and runs every 30 seconds. Why the 30 seconds ? Can the interval be raised (I see a 30sec statement in the perl script so I assume it is possible). The reason for asking is the fact I see a lot of x2gocleansession processes running on the server. The second question is abount x2goprint. When printing the cups print jobs are being saved in the / of the system. Which script/command must be adjusted to save the cups print jobs in eq /tmp or /var/spool/x2goprint ? Many thanks in advance, Jasper van der Marel Stone-IT
