====== X2Go at Cisco ======
I have a Minnowboard Max (A system I purchased myself) and run Ubuntu on it to complement my W7 corporate desktop. Originally I had connected the Minnowboard to one of my monitors but this was annoying since I had to switch input devices to control it. I now use X2Go to bring up a KDE session on one of my desktop monitors to allow easy cut-n-paste and control without the need to switch back and forth physically. Having the session preserved is
great too! This isn't a corporate initiative or anything, just something to make life easier for myself instead of running Ubuntu in a VM, for example.

====== X2Go at Martinos Center for Medical Imaging ======
I am the IT manager for the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging which is a joint research center of Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Harvard HST and MIT BCS. We have over 300+ Linux workstations at users desks for our imaging analysis. Up until around 2008 users would use VNC for remote graphical access,
then we started using FreeNX and more recently X2Go. The primary analysis tools are MATLAB and FreeSurfer (http://freesurfer.net)

Feel free to mention us on your wiki if it's useful to you. And thank you for maintaining a very useful piece of software!
-Sam Mehl
<note warning>**Editor's Note:** X2Go does have options for image compression, like using JPG and/or PNG. Not all image compression algorithms are lossless, and thus there may be artifacts in the images (i.e. the image displayed through X2Go may look slightly different than what it would look like on a regular X-Server screen), depending on which algorithm and which compression level you choose.
If you're using fMRI/X-Ray/Mammography/... images or similar medical imaging displayed through X2Go for clinical purposes (deciding whether a certain patient requires a surgery etc.), you should absolutely make sure that you're using a lossless compression or no compression at
all, or else you might be seeing things that aren't actually there, or missing things that are there.</note>

- I manage the HPC cluster for a number of medical imaging research labs at Univ. of Penn, at the School of Medicine and other groups. So a small slice of the big pie, with currently about a half dozen regular X2Go users who (very
succesfully!) use it to remotely access our compute cluster and ancillary servers. It really works very well, hats off to you and your team. Without X2Go, the performance of X11 apps is barely usable over remote VPN connection. Sometimes we also use it within the local university network to get better graphics performance. One user uses it via cellular from his laptop on the train during his commute, going through VPN, and gets good response for a 2D image analysis tool we use.

- ====== X2Go in a Swiss school, with Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Single-Sign-On ======
- We are a small school (200 students) in Switzerland for students that have finished their public school but haven't made it to an apprenticeship training position yet. So our main goal is
to prepare them for the "real" world in many different subjects.
-
- We started using X2Go a few years ago, as a terminal server solution for the students that like to get into the the ICT-sector. As a teacher (and hobby-sysadmin) I appreciated X2Go's ease of use. I was able to provide a stable environment with no costs. The hardware we use is old and was rejected by our Windows admins as "garbage", so we got it for free. The Windows folks - admins and users alike - were extremely surprised when they saw what the machines they had rejected as too old could still do.
-
- Soon we also saw what a huge advantage X2Go was for our students. They are able to switch seamlessly between working from home or at school. Missing homework because of a lack of infrastructure? Not at our school.
-
- By now X2Go has become an essential tool for several courses. Our X2Go installation (on Debian 8, with an XFCE desktop) even has Windows Active Directory integration (Single-Sign-On and Windows
shares). As our school's ICT system is Windows-based (with Windows Server 2008 acting as an AD Domain Controller), this was necessary to allow seamless integration into the rest of the system.
-
- We use special tools like Blender, FreeCAD, and other fancy stuff a lot - stuff our Windows admin is not willing to install and maintain on all the other machines. X2Go gave us the possibility to provide access to these tools without any further expenses.
-
- We sometimes have courses with guests from outside our school. Instead of having to get Windows domain user accounts set up for them, I just provide them with local Linux user accounts on our X2Go server. Within minutes I have everything set up that they need for their course, and they can even continue their work from outside.
-
- I've tried LTSP, NoMachine NX and tinkered around with several VNC servers. But the thing that really made a difference was X2Go.
-
- Thanks to all the great developers out there that made X2Go a
viable and affordable alternative to what the so-called market leaders have to offer.
-
