Unfortunately with Unity you have the same issue. Canonical has dropped<br>

Thank you for the reply. gnome-shell --version reports 3.10.4 and<br>
gnome-session --version returns 3.9.90 with no composite extension in the<br>
server. I am not an administrator of the remote server, so it seems that I<br>
have to give up gnome. What about Unity then? It's the default GUI for<br>
ubuntu.<br>

PS: Mate desktop works but I don't know how to play with it.<br>

If the server is a modern Linux with Gnome 3 this will happen because<br>
Gnome 3 uses a compositing desktop not compatible with X2Go.<br>
<br>
For me the fix was to install Mate desktop on the servers which is a<br>
fork of Gnome 2 and is compatible with X2Go.<br>
