Please run the GUI in --libdebug mode from the command line and send
the log output to me privately. Maybe that gives a hint.

It works with Unity-2d-launcher... I am currently working on the docs
(making not as much progress as I would like)...

That is from within the Unity shell. I am mostly Debianic, so if you
can contribute on the Ubuntu side that would be awesome!
